I don’t think anyone needs to write them about Merkel...0 -

So when does the 'western world' say enough of this sh!t and we move into Deep Cleanse? #wishful0

This is quite amusing and scary at the same time... I guess that this is Trump's real 'base' on show...

It is no surprise the boarding school lot fell for who Trump was (US President) and so overlooked what he was (fascist)0

I am really intrigued by those in the military being aligned to trump. He has demonstrated the utmost contempt for them and their culture his entire life. He literally could not be more transparent.0

Indeed. His whole line about preferring soldiers who weren't captured should have alienated them, let alone the fact he dodged the draft.john80 said:I am really intrigued by those in the military being aligned to trump. In other news, Pompeo has announced that they have dropped the bar on US government officials from contacting the Taiwan government.
Now, I'm not saying this is wrong, but the timing seems like it's just planned to give Biden a hospital pass just days before the inauguration.0 -

It is weird. I think it stems partly from a no BS mindset that you have to have in the military.john80 said:I am really intrigued by those in the military being aligned to trump. They share a common contempt for PC speak and that appeals. The fact that most other traits are completely out of sync should matter more. But then these people envisage a different America and seem prepared to overlook the obvious failings of the person that has galvanised them.0 -

On a positive note, I think it's a shrinking proportion: I seem to remember from the election in one state where Trump was hoping for a bump from the military votes (counted later, as they had been brought back from various stations), Biden got 80% of the votes. But I equally suspect that those who have stuck with Trump have a large count of radicalised loons who don't care that Trump has ignored the Constitution that they are sworn to die for, if necessary.
Some of them, like Ashli Babbitt, the vet who was shot during the storming of the Capitol, was, quite frankly, nuts.

I guess Trump has tapped into the mindset that unless a politician can be seen directly doing something that directly benefits you as an individual, they aren’t doing anything and are a waste of space.
The sad thing is, I think some politicians are a waste of space but it is still a sweeping generalisation.
For me, the problem with politics (the world over) is safe seats facilitate incompetence.1 -

In orde, for one advert break: a prescription drug for diabetes insulin control; a hospital chain pushing their bedside care credentials and a car advert selling a feature about keeping your car in lane - it did so by having a man eating fries as he drives next to a lorry - he spills a chip and then the whole lot - as he does he looks down at his messy trousers and veers towards the lorry. Luckily, the feature saves his life...
Honestly, it’s a mad country.0 -
Not sure anyone can be in any doubt about that after the last week! (or perhaps 4 years)rick_chasey said:mrb123 said:

Everyone likes their politicians to have principles except when it is hurting them. A lot of people would rather the UK politicians called Trump a d1ck to his face the moment he was elected. I as a pragmatist would rather we followed the course we did by sucking up to him in the least amount possible till he was gone. Those that wanted to pull the nuclear option on day one would have principles but little to no relationship with the USA which is bigger than Trump and his one term disaster. I feel we have got our relationship with Trump about right even though people like May were probably swallowing the vomit in their mouth a few times with him.1

And the Republicans in the senate look to be running the school shooting playbook. Say how it's bad, distract onto something else, and wait it out.rick_chasey said:Didn’t realise the rioters beat a policeman to death.

True, people need to distinguish between the the individual who is the president and the USA. As odious as he is, Trump was still the elected head of state and we needed to deal with the USA as a long term partner and ally. He'll be gone soon, thankfully.john80 said:Everyone likes their politicians to have principles except when it is hurting them.
