“Oh we voted out of spite because we got called racist” lol give over. You voted for a racist because.....

Ignore the racism tag. If you call a bunch of people stupid, is it surprising they don't vote the same way as you?
    Cause or effect, right?

I would say that is a stupid reason to vote one way so it becomes quite tautological
People are voting for a representative, someone who represents them.

Trump now 6/4. Massive swing from being 1/2 earlier on.
The bloke who bet a million on Biden may be sweating a little less...

Looks like Trump thinks he's lost.

Counting all the votes according to the rules is a way of disenfranchising people. Interesting concept.

Well, the bookies think he's won - implied chance Trump 65.2%. Biden 27.8%.

    They're not often wrong!
    Look again.
    Largely unchanged.
If you can get odds against Biden, I'd take them. I'm seeing 4/6 Biden, and 11/8 Trump.
Yep, it's swung back towards Biden this morning, good news for this chap:

Whether or not the people are racist - calling them racist isn't a persuasive argument Rick. Relatively few people who you would consider racist would consider themselves racist, substitute stupid , moron etc for the word racist and same argument holds.

  • But the maddening thing is that (forgive me) a random on the internet will say that, and it's "the metropolitan elite are sneering at you".

Trump's actual economic policies are not geared towards helping anyone in those states, he just wants to help metropolitan elites, and he's a fool who seems to have no clue about anything and constantly lies. When he has put a policy in to help farmers, it's because he screwed up their market in the first place.

Why would the first sentence be more important to anyone? How does any party overcome that?

JP Morgan think a narrow Biden win, but the Senate will be held by the Republicans.

Rick, I really think you don't understand it and have what these voters would see as a classic metropolitan elite condesending attitude to them, hence why the liberals and centre left have really struggled to gain any support from this type of voter.

They feel completely left behind and disenfranchised by the traditional politician who they see almost as alien in their attitudes and desires, so anyone who seems to front up and offer hope of something different has to be better for them than what was the status quo. Labelling them as rascist idiots realy won't help your cause, or the cause of more moderate thinking people.

I don’t come on here to win over voters, believe it or not.

I think voting for Trump is monumentally stupid and I call out racism where I see it.

If I was running a campaign I would not start with “voting for my opposition makes you stupid and only stupid people do it. Oh plus he’s openly racist so you support that too”. Duh.

But let’s call a spade a spade here. Trump is deeply corrupt, incapable of the job, only worsens the nation and is only interested in himself.

He has said from the start he intends to paint the election as illegitimate and he’s relaxed about undermining the result and the entire election process.

He’s a serial liar. I don’t care how dire your situation, you’re a mug if you vote for that.

I love this idea that only working class people feel disenfranchised. From where I’m sitting there are plenty more people spouting their politics than my liberal centre left perspective in parliament.

    It's a tricky one, eh.

All those people who swung towards voting conservative at the last GE because "Boris is going to look after normal folk like us" were quite simply lied to.

How do you make them see that? If you tell them they're being lied to then you're accused of suggesting that they don't understand politics or that they're thick. When in reality, all you're trying to do is help them.

I speak as a Labour voter who is better off under Conservative economic policies. But it's not all about me otherwise I'd be encouraging them, get that higher tax bracket up etc.

Anyway, back to the studio in Wisconsin.

None of them are decided yet, duh! These are projections. Michigan will go for Trump.

You are probably right. Trump is only ahead in Michigan by 12,406 votes.

Good summary thread of where the race stands

    Not any more.

Biden up in Arizona (not called by NYT yet), Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan. If he wins those, he wins.

In the interests of 'you called it too early' balance, there was a time in the Democratic Primary race that it was all over for Biden and he'd no chance of winning.

“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!
  • I thought this was supposed to be a landslide for Biden. Even if Trump loses Michigan, Nevada is still in play. Closest presidential election in my lifetime.

Yep, we're already starting to see the "moral victory for Trumpism" articles in the Torygraph.

I'll be glad when he's gone, and it does look like he will, but the real issues - the sheer lunacy of political culture in the US, and why so many people are so keen to vote, against their own interests, for an entitled failure of a self-regarding moron - how will they go away?
