No, but they will be. Or one of Dotards 4 billion offshore vehicles that ferry his money/debt (more likely) around.

    1) fights 2) puts people off fighting in the first place. Arguably 3) acts as extra police force when things get hairy.

Principle job of the military. Rest is a bonus.

But how is that relevant? Or are you looking for turf to argue over that suits you?

    I rest my case.

I'm going back to Tears for Fears.

Ja, I don't really know what the beef is.

Was a debate on US spending on Europe and now it's an argument on how I define the military.

Anyway, we done the Trump sibblings involved in some dodgy panama stuff yet?
Bloody hell, RC. Why did you have to set MF off on one of his armed forces rants? Why?

I'm not accusing you of trolling, why the concern? Anyway, I don't mind the odd troll, as long as it's not habitual.

Well it could be argued that his tax reforms are pretty bold and bring the US into the 21st century in tax terms.

It could be, but it would be a waste of your time on this thread, stick to brexit and giving us a labour government next election eh

I guess I couldn't expect a decent debate on the US tax reforms given the standard of knowledge on display in the paradise papers thread.

Unless you think you're up to it? :)

Dotard. has postponed the overturning of the ban, until “such a time that he can review all conservation facts” He has the EPA to decide such matters they’ve already decided climate change isn’t man made, probably not beyond them to blame the elephants for it!
All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....
  • The elephant one is interesting. The evidence, as I briefly read it, was that there was a study that allowing this would actually help conserve the species, something to do with permitting legal hunting, fees to community, eases pressure on illegal hunting etc. Personally, I'd just get heavy and shoot people who shoot elephants, that should sort it.

But it's interesting that, on this, he bows to populism as the majority, I guess, find this abhorrent. His first 'back down?'

The conservation argument is a nonsense, a handful of rich Americans paying money to regimes in Zimbabwe and Namibia will not stop poaching by local gangs, even if it means they can afford to employ protection officers, Ivory poachers will always find a way so you will end up with elephants being attacked legally and illegally I fear

Conservation costs. A lot of privately owned pieces of land containing wildlife require millions of pounds per annum to run. Kruger costs a fortune to run but IFAW's stance is that the trophy hunting won't make a dent in the demand for ivory and Rhino horn, so at best, it may subsidise the running costs but will not alleviate demand.

It's a very hard circle to square. Loss of habitat is almost impossible to stem. Populations are rising,
My sister works for a Wildlife magazine and has recently moved to Uganda. The rising population is putting huge pressure on natural resources. She thinks that given a tipping point in terms of food, Uganda will be the next flash point; civil war.
When this happens, wildlife is a commodity to sell for arms.
(Re.: The demise of the White Rhino during the Rwanda uprising to fund arms purchasing).

With all that in mind, Has Trump considered that pressure on Countries like China (Ivory) and Thailand (Rhino Horn) may reduce demand because without reducing demand, pressure on wildlife is unsustainable and Trophy hunting has to be considered in amongst a complex myriad of issues and pressures.

George Dublya ploughed a lot of money into family planning in East Africa. Obama withdrew the funding. Reducing infant mortality, increasing living standards and providing access to education reduces population growth which in turn stems pressure on wildlife but that is both a long term plan but too long a term for rich Western countries to commit to seemingly.

Personally, money has to be put into conservation in parallel with political pressure and a will to improve the lives of indigenous populations. Kenya actively teaches children at school about the importance of wildlife.

So before we start talking about shooting wildlife to raise money, there's an awful lot of stuff to be ascertained to prove that this will have a long term benefit. It will help in the short term, I have no doubt but Africa is riddled with corruption and without proper control of hunting for cash, who knows what impact it could have.

It's time articulate and educated people like you BTR, plough a little bit more time into what is a critical point in the future of the elephant and the Rhino, even if it is a donation to various conservation programme's and agencies.

Sorry to have gone too far off topic.

  • Good post. I'm not sure what you mean about ploughing more time in though, it was simply about having briefly read the piece. Sure, I could spend more time reading the entire piece, but the point I was making was not about the conservation piece per se, but his turn to populism.

  • As an aside, it was probably made a little easier to stop this given the situation in Zimbabwe, meaning that, in essence at least practically, he's just reversing a decision in relation to Zambia.

I'm happy to take your word on that for now. But then I find money a really uninteresting topic and try to know as little about it as I possibly can so this might not help!

Sen. Jeff Flake(y), who is unelectable in the Great State of Arizona (quit race, anemic polls) was caught (purposely) on “mike” saying bad things about your favorite President. He’ll be a NO on tax cuts because his political career anyway is “toast.”

As long as he wasn't caught on "mike" admitting he sexually assaulted women.

    What a f*cktard.

Stacey Dooley did an interesting documentary on legal hunting in Africa. It was part of a series called "Brainwashing Stacey".
