  • I have Wiggle platinum so £835. Spec is all alu frame, hi mod carbon fork, WTB rims, Novatec hubs and SRAM Apex 1 including hydraulics.

Gears will need changing from 32t to 36t ideally. But otherwise, great.

You can get a similar price from CRC but theirs is £949 then take off 10% BC discount.

Yeah, I'm finding I'm spending significantly more than I expected to on bike parts/tools etc ( 6 new tyres in a year, 3 bottom brackets, 3 chains, new mtb chainset, new 700c and 26" wheels) at the moment than clothing, and since my ride is only an hour each way the lidl/aldi stuff is pretty perfect. I've not done long distance stuff on the road, so really there isn't the demand, and I want to have enough kit to change it all daily ( well, apart from unpadded tights) .

The reason for the shout out was I'm working towards a perfetto/gabba style jersey to balance between my very warm aldi winter jacket for <0 that even then I boil in, and a l/s baselayer & l/s jersey that I wear <10c, that I freeze in due to wind, and I don't want to set myself back for something that isn't really much cop at all, no matter the marketing spin on it.

DHB is great all round and great value for LS base layers without being too pricey. Get the summer stuff in winter and the winter stuff in summer - it's almost always cheaper or on offer.
Keep an eye and sign up with Prendas Ciclismo - they often have sale offers on. Those boys are great to deal with and of course, Bobshop

    For example: https://www.bobshop.com/en/nalini-basic/bib-shorts-red/

Nalini is good value. I have a pair of light Nalini (non-padded) tights that are over 20 years old.

Re,: Lusso shorts. Cannot say I am keen on them.I only wear them when on the rollers which is 1 hour max.

I have been cycling for 34 years and still, I cannot bring myself or justify buying the eye wateringly expensive Rapha or Assos stuff.

My DHB Aeron softshell performs as good as the Castelli Espresso 4 (although slightly different purposes) but there's no way I would have bought the Espresso at full whack - it was 50% off and the DHB would have been £45 less than the sale price of the Espresso had I bought it new.

Aye, I kept looking at the DHB rain defence stuff, but again it's not on offer currently.
In all honesty, I'm more than happy with the lidl/aldi (or decathlon) level stuff.
Wasn't aware of Bobshop - will go look, and have signed up fro prendas.
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

I've always been tempted but my on going cynicism has prevailed. Apparently, those winter cycling gloves from Lidl and Aldi are very good but either they don't sell them at our local Lidl (they've done their homework on the local demographic  and they are not wrong) or I have to drive over to Aldi 25 miles away for a £4.99 pair of gloves. Doesn't seem very environmentally friendly and cycling it would probably result in death as it's a main 'A' road frequented by mad skulled narden eyerish who always seem to be in a hurry.

This is not bad for what it is, though I would shop around as I got one for less than £30. Folds up really small so great for commuting as you can elect to put it in your back pocket. I thought it would fall apart as it seemed flimsy but i've had mine 8 years + and I keep it in an oversized water bottle on the winter trainer or my back pocket in summer. If you run hot, then this is light enough to stop you sweating buckets underneath and waterproof. I run cold, so it goes on top of x layers:

    What?

The Assos Mitsubishi Evo Alan Carr Campionissomo bib tights that I own make me feel like I am continually being massaged in the dodgiest establishment of Soho - Assos gives a different meaning to ride quality. The Michelangelo front mesh made of 8 proprietary materials is designed to sculpt your abodominals to match the granite abs of Michelangelo's David.

For sure its fricking annoying that you are always propositioned by the 18 year old cafe waitresses who want to try on your bib knickers and it is eye wateringly expensive - the latest commodity markets have Assos garments fractionally more expensive per ounce then Gold and "Meth".

But I can assure you once you wear them even Stevo" I'm just a company accountant" 666 will bow down to you.

    Buy them.
    Buy them now.

Don't be silly - he only bows to the bottom line.

Surely a visit to the dodgiest establishment in Soho would be cheaper?

Ordered carbon and green, was about to buy a pair on Sunday but didn't get round to it, so that was good timing, thanks Bender.
Delivery should be tomorrow, just in time for some non turbo riding later in the week.
  • Nice choice. I ordered a case too. Kept meaning to.

Any thoughts helping choose between Rapha's Classic II rain jacket and Pro Team waterproof gilet?

Obviously, one has sleeves. My thinking is that the gilet will be more versatile, stowable and keep the most important part dry and out the wind. The Classic II, being a full jacket, will be more 'cosy' for pootling to work and back.

This is mostly for commutes but will also be used for longer weekend rides too.

Ordered the Gilet but in the confirmation email the price is £12 higher than advertised

The Classic II rain jacket doesn't seem to be adding to the basket either, I''m thinking it might be a stock issue.

Odd goings on. On my screen the Gilet is £69 but when I click in (yellow one?) it goes down to £58.33? then reverts to £69.99 when in the basket. Weird.

The rain jacket does appear to be sold out. But no updating. Reckon cos it's Rapha it's hammering their system. I did think this was unusual given that the jacket had sold out at Rapha.

Indeed, most of my mates have ditched their Oakley and gone SunGod. He also bought himself another pair, another set of lenses and a case this week out of his own money.

FWIW, I'll second/third/fourth etc. the very high opinions expressed on Sungods. Having bought Pacebreakers and several lenses for myself a while ago, I'll say with some certainty that, to me anyway, the optics are as good as Oakleys, they look quite cool and, even better, they are not Oakleys. I was tempted to use this code to buy a pair of classics for 'normal' use but made the fatal mistake of mentioning them to the Mrs who, being her usual sensible self, pointed out that I already seem to have one of the worlds largest collection of sunnies and therefore didn't really need yet another pair. I'll remember that tactic the next time she starts looking at any girly stuff.
