Have a look at, and I might too, the new Castelli LW tights, designed, apparently, for those days when you would normally not wear tights.

I was looking at that theory. I don't know whose it was. That you should wear knee warmers from 10-18 and tights always below 10. I tend to do knee warmers 5-10, tights below. I quite fancy protecting my knees a bit more, better for recovery apparently. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Deja Vu! Will they reintroduce the lightweight gilet (withthe slits instead of pockets), though. That seems to be out of stock. My jerset/gilet combo is y go to attire at the moment.
Those socks look nice for a commute. Currently my favourites are the Rapha Deep Winter socks, which are also used for running.0 -

I bought last years versions in orange/navy & black fluoro as well as the full protection softshell jacket - wonderful kit for the money. Socks look toasty but a bit of a weird length? for wearing under bib longs?0 -

As it's that time of year - what thermal/insulated bib shorts do the esteemed kit experts of these parts recommend?
I favour a layering type approach as I find the first part of me to get cold is my quads, I don't really get cold lower legs, so I was thinking insulated shorts plus knee or leg warmers as required would be a good flexible solution.0 -
I'd recommend the Assos tiburu, naturally! But they are very expensive!

I have been using the Gore Oxygen Partial Thermo Bib Shorts. They are great, fleecy inside with a windproof panel around the crotch area. They are my go-to bibshorts for autumn weather. They also make them in 3/4 length sizing.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

Haha yes the Assos ones look a bit pricey! There seem to be some offers around, but only on stupid sizes.
The dhb ones look OK, if the quality is there? I've had some of the cheaper dhb stuff before and it's been of middling quality.0 -
Should be ok. Won't last as long as the Assos, but there we are. The Rivelo 3/4 on Sportpursuit also worth a look.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Yeah, they ARE super warm. they have a zip, which is ok (at the bottom). THe chamois is good.
Mine had some threads come adrift. But that's what a warranty is for. Because they are softshelly they don't move as well as pure roubaix bibs. But they are superwarm. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Superwarm is what I need. Are they warmer than the DHB deep winter tights? There's currently an offer of £10 off any orders over £60 so I could get these quite inexpensively and forgo the Deep winter one's.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
They should be pretty similar, do they still do the deep winter ones?My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Well, they sold out in February so I called them and she didn't know if they would be back'. The windstopper attributes of these Windslam tights is appealing.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

I'd be interested to know how far the softshell material comes down the shins if you wouldn't mind reporting back
The soft shell goes from just above the hip to about 4" below my knees. I'm 5'9" with my shoes on. I ordered a medium, seems A1.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0
