I may need to look into this DHB jacket. Went out this morning in 5-7 degrees with Assos MilleIntermediate over a merino long sleeve base layer and a q36.5 gilet on top. Arms and back absolutely froze and I struggled to get warm no matter how hard I was working. Not exactly a racing whippet so suggestions for something slightly flattering for a “dad bod” in the jacket form would be appreciated.

I’ve just ordered the Castelli Pavé - looks like a cut down Tempesta....after getting caught in rain on Sunday with an old montane pertex jacket with all the waterproof qualities of a potato sack I figured worth a punt.

I can't speak for the others but I really like my Castelli Alphas (I have both the jersey and the jacket). They are the pre-ROS version. Again, this might be true of other winter jackets but they're the only ones I've warn that keep me warm as soon as I step outside in the winter but cool enough while I'm working hard. I commute 40 mins each way and it takes me ~20 minutes to warm up. I can either choose to be cold and the start or warm at the end but I found with the Castelli it's no problem. A little zip adjustment and I'm good for the whole journey.

I bought the outgoing 2017 Alpha ROS jacket in the sale recently; managed just one cool, drizzly ride before it became too warm to wear it. I'm expecting great things of it come the autumn though.

Ended up pushing the button on an Assos millejacket evo7. I like the fit of the milleintermediate so if it’s a similar fit and heaps warmer I’ll be happy.

You really should try the Assos Equipe, it is excellent in hot weather. I've used it in temps of >35degC and managed to stay reasonably comfortable.

I was of the mindset that in terms of feel/performance there was less of a difference in summer jerseys than other seasonal clothing. However, blessed as we have been with the weather - it has made me realise, that out of my summer jerseys the most comfortable to wear has been the Assos SS 13.

So, I would interested to know what other offerings out there offer similar levels of performance to the current Assos lineup.

Bender - have you (or anybody else) got a link to Ebay/Amazon for a case that works well for the Sungod Pacebreakers. Don't fancy paying Sungod 15 notes for one of theirs. Assume there should be something available for a couple of quid that would do the job.

My TICC jersey is very good. Ditto the Rapha Pro Team training jersey and the Rapha midweight training. All quite Assos SS.13 ish. Very impressed with each of them.

Does anyone know how the DHB Full Protection Softshell would compare to the Castelli ROS Alpha Jacket in terms of warmth/temperature range. Presumably the Alpha would be a bit better in rain. Wondering how they'd stack up on very cold, dry winter days.

I bought the Alpha Ros Jacket last Autumn.

Living in Aberdeenshire, it was a godsend for the crappy winter we had.

3 rides in -5 to -8deg C with two thin base layers underneath. Loved the ability to zip open the outer jacket when climbing and for it not to flap about.

I think wearing he jacket on its own is Ok up to 5 to 8 deg. Warmer than that and its packed away fro the "summer".

I got it for about £200 and it was well worth that money in my book.

    Bender,

Have you retested the Red and white jersey in true summer conditions.
This looks to be a bargain:

Shame the jerseys all seem to have that slogan on the back. Rather spoils them for me.

That's good to hear. I snapped one up in Westbrook's sale earlier this year and only managed one drizzly ride before the temps rose too far for it. Looking forward to giving it some proper weather come the autumn.

Yes, all still fine. Very breathable in these conditions, it's just mesh really, rather than anything proprietary etc. The only issue is limited sizes for the larger gent.

The RedWhite are quite similar in feel to the Chapeau stuff, which I really rate too.

Little disappointed in chapeau. I got their winter bibs and the logo began to crack after 3/4 rides

Quick question for you bender..... do you have any recent experience of the pedalEd brand? Very tempted by a few pieces but not much reviews or write ups online.

None I am afraid? Which pieces are you interested in?

Have to say that, at the moment, if you want a great jersey, just have a look at This is Cambridge.

Have looked at pedaled too but not many reviews out there. If it’s the merino stuff you’re looking at, I can recommend the Isadore stuff, I have a couple of jerseys and they are extremely comfortable.

Sorry if I've missed it bender, but have you tried the TICCC bibshorts? If so, is there anything out there you would compare them to?

And thanks for the referral code - early birthday present for me coming up at 10:30

I was interested in the heiko range, especially the bib shorts altho they're the same price as the assos Millie and I've only heard and read extremely positive things. So I'm torn between trying a new ish brand that no one in any of my groups will be wearing or the assos mille.

The signature jersey is catching my eye. Looks lovely and some interesting colours too. Do you have the signature jersey?
