After racing across the whole of the US, Lael Wilcox and Steffan Streich are locked in battle over the final 100 miles

Check out the Tour Divide too. An insomniac Welshman is destroying it this year (mike hall)! The Terry Smith dot is actually Guy Waker (?). The ex Superbiker turned adventurer.

If you look at Race Flow on TrackLeaders you can see that LW has been riding for 30 hours now (after she stopped for a whopping 4 hr break). SS appears to be struggling with the length of time he has been awake...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

One of the few disciplines where men and women compete on an equal footing then?0 -
possibly, I think Lael is just that exceptional really.
These sort of endurance, unsupported events are still new and I think still only done by people who do it for the love. Like most of these things though there are people that are turning it into a real race rather than just a challenge. LW is the first of these... She's put 30 miles into Stefan over 4 odd hours

Love how she's not even in cycling gear!!0 -
Heartbreak for Steffan! https://gypsybytrade.wordpress.com/2016 ... shland-va/
Struggled with punctures and a faulty GPS unit. Crashed for 2 hours on the side of the road then set off THE WRONG WAY meeting Lael coming the other way before turning around

Check out this dude

He's ridden 1100km in 55 hours or so. 24 hours straight, 4 hr rest, then looks like another 24 hours again, holding 30kph average
(Those of you who follow me on social media will have gathered that I'm 'dot watching' for this race. It is really rather inspiring!)We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

I've been dot watching too! My friend Matt Falconer is riding too, has been hovering around 15th place since the start. Really, really want him to do well!BikeRadar Communities Manager0

Got a lot of time for Lachlan Morton. Surely earned a WT squad place for next season after that ride?BikeRadar Communities Manager0

What with all the Olympics hoo-ha and the Vuelta start, I only just read this:

Lovely stuff, very sad but what a nice story. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Depends on whether a WT weighs up his talent vs flakiness* and wants to take the gamble
*in some eyes from his time with Garmin0 -
Speaking of Lachlan Morton, who got his WT ride as predicted above, VeloNews has a good interview with him here.
He comes across as a good guy just trying to figure out life, as seems to be the case for a lot of young Americans dumped in Europe and asked to ride. They can often ride better than they can fill out forms and make new friends. In some ways it’s a pity that athletic maturity comes at such a young age.0 -
Aitor Gonzalez (won the vuelta in the early '00s) had been caught by rozzers robbing a phone shop.0
