Unlocked (2017) - Noomi Rapace, Orlando Bloom, Michael Douglas and John Malkovic.
With a stellar cast like that what was not to like?..... The editing.
The premise of the story us quite reasonable. Female CIA agent in London on the run from dirty agents in British SIS and possibly CIA. Trouble was it was a badly edited film which made the thread off the story telling incoherent. There were a couple of scenes where Noomi our heroine had teamed up with other agents and I thought she was actually on the run from them.
It was watchable but I was left a bit confused.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -
Coco
The latest Pixar offering, not quite up there with Inside Out but pretty damn close!
Based around the Mexican Day of the Dead festival, the film still packs an emotional punch, I really enjoyed it!0 -
V For Vendeta.
One of those films that I missed because I thought I'd seen it. I was expecting a slasher/gunfest type film whilst it turned out to be more 1984 with knives. I won't say that it is a prediction for the future but it did feel slightly relevant today. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Not the last film I watched, but I'm still thinking about the Lobster and want to rewatch quite soon. Other half refuses to though, called it pretentious indie rubbish. Can see where she's coming from.0

Drive (BBC iPlayer)
Starring, and I use that tern very loosely, Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston plus some others.
AWFUL.
It's what I call a 'Coffee Table Book film'. It was just cinematography and very little else. Got to the point where I wanted it to finish ASAP. Should've abandoned it rather than wasting my time.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -
Terminator Genisys on Netflix.
Don't bother. Hammy acting from the entire cast and Swiss cheese storyline.
They should have left it there with the original films.0 -

I agree it's slick and stylish. Just like a nice coffee table book containing beautiful photos of California. No substance whatsoever to the film.
Ryan Gosling was OK and btw his stock must be sky high as he's in everthing according to number one son. But his actual talky bits in this were very small.....
Scorpion jacket was tacky. Your other half was wise in making you send it back. A nice black or tan leather jacket for me...thank you Mrs Goo.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -

I watched as it had outstanding reviews. At the end I just thought, meh.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I liked Only God Forgives, though I won't pretend it isn't/I'm not pretentious.0 -
The water diviner.....russel Crowe

Not seen but then I now judge all Crowe films from the low tide mark of Noah. Only watched a bit if it but looked like a bible story on acid.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -
Downsizing
Not quite sure how I got talked into watching this parcel of excrement, but I'm absolutely certain that I'll never ever watch it again!!0 -
'Only The Brave' - It's the true story of the Granite Mountain Hot Shots, a front line team of fire fighters in the US fighting forest fire, absolutely incredible and very moving....I cried like a lil' bitch.0

Finally got around to seeing ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’
Really, really good and I laughed far more than I thought I would, in fact more than quite a few ‘comedies’ that I’ve seen!0 -

I thought the same, dark comedy definitely, brilliant film....but that ending annoyed the hell out of me!0 -
For a Few Dollars More (1965) - Netflix
Clint Eastwood & Lee Van Cleef as a couple of killer bounty hunters. Hadn't seen for many years but doesn't disappoint. I guess one could say it is a sort of Western comic book (Marvel) type film. Great music score from Ennio Morricone.
Killing baddies, great music, great one liners and riding off into the sunset with the dosh. What's not to like.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -
Hell or High Water - a film I stumbled across on a flight back from Qatar last year and someone gave me on DVD for my birthday (I did ask for it). Great "modern" western. Excellent plot and characters and very good direction and editing.Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0 -
Took my younger girls to see "The Greatest Showman!
Entertainer has huge commercial success but is critically panned, tries to make serious art but fails and returns to populist entertainment that made him famous.
But enough about Zac Efron's career, the movie was a colourful diversion that rewrites circus exploitation as empowerment of the disenfranchised. Hugh Jackman can sing a good tune, as can Zac, but it fails to pass the Old Grey Whistle Test.
It reminded me that Michal Crawford did a stage musical about Barnum that required the whole cast to do the circus routines on stage every night. Crawford sang one of his songs while tightrope walking. That would have been a tad more impressive than the CGI fest I watched.
Both girls enjoyed it of course0 -
Shutter Island - very dark and pretty watchable. Definitely not the best work Scorsese has ever done though. Wasn't particularly keen on the big plot twist, the film was better when it seemed to be heading in a Wicker Man style direction.
Arrival - more great work from the consistently excellent Amy Adams, surely the number one female actor of her generation.
Incidentally, watching Arrival last night, I thought the opening/closing piece of music sounded familiar. Turns out it was also used on Shutter Island, the previous film I had watched!0 -
pottssteve wrote:All for One - the Orica-Scott documentary. Good fun, and Mathew Hayman comes out of it very well.
Spoiler: He wins Paris-Roubaix.
Where did you watch this? Are you in the UK? I've been trying to find it but haven't had any luck.0 -
Watched Revenant on Netflix last night with the Mrs, I'd already seen it and think it's very good but wasn't sure what the Mrs would make of it. Thankfully she enjoyed most of it.
Agree with comments above about Three Billboards, very good film.0 -
I Tonya
Pretty good film with two standout performances from Margot Robbie and Alison Janney.
Just left with the feeling that it could have been much better.0 -
Black Panther - didn't match up to the character's introduction in Captain America: Civil War at all - overlong and full of naff CGI but as an old school comic book geek, pleased that his debut was very much influenced by storylines from the 1970s.
Honoroury Mention: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. LOVED the ending of this film! Sam Rockwell, as ever, is comic relief. I gave up my Cineworld Unlimited subscription in 2008 in protest at the dumbing down of Hollywood but reluctantly started it up again. Looking forward to Death Wish 2018 with Bruce Willis!0 -
Darkest Hour - Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill
Verdict ;-
BRILLIANT !!0 -
The Departed (2006)
Very entertaining film, lots of swearing and gore though.
Strong cast, after about 5 mins you kind of know it is going to be a good film.
Started to watch Black Panther but lost interest fairly rapidly!0 -

If you take out the romantic interest, it's almost an exact shot for shot remake of the chinese film "infernal affairs".0 -

I don't know how true this is, basically I kind of remember a quote by some author............. "There are only 5 stories in the world". The implication being only 5 main themes I guess. Doubts are creeping into my mind as I am writing this may have been 7. Has anybody else heard this............. I'm not sure if I believe it, feels like it could be true.0
