So Adam's definitely in, but Simon is a strong possibility as well now.
Or will they go for someone like Adam Blythe to have a sprinter? or are they happy that Ben Swift could be suited?
Who is / are GB's protected rider(s)?
Going on the last couple of years the protected rider will be whomever actually finishes the race.0 -
I can't see much past Kristoff, Sagan and JD to be honest. Doesn't look tough enough to rule them out although the pure sprinters will struggle.0

As unpopular as it might be, I'd love to see Sagan win it.It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Good shout. Stybar for me. He knows how to take an opportunity and isn't afraid to have a go0 -

An on-form Colbrelli could be in with a shout0 -

I thought it was a Cav or Swift situation, so is Swifts now.
When you consider the effort put in to get it for Cav, and the lead up to this years race, one suspects its pretty unlikely to happen.
Can Dowsett come good for a medal in the ITT? If he in in good form there are a few previous big names missing or possibly off form.2020/2021/2022 Metric Century Challenge Winner0 -
Ireland going with Conor Dunne and Sam Bennett for the elite men's RR.
Dunbar and Mullen to participate in the U23 time trial and Dunbar to double up for the U23 RR.It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Dowsett isn't in the same league as Dumoulin, Dennis, Martin, Malori. I would suggest a top 15 place would be a good result for him.0 -

Hes been 8th in the past though. Dumoulin could be cooked after the Vuelta? I dont know where Martins form will be at, he hasnt done a lot since his crash has he?2020/2021/2022 Metric Century Challenge Winner0 -

I can't see him beating Martin, Dumoulin, Kiryienka, Dennis, Malori, Qaade, Bodnar, Bialoblocki, Phinney and probably not Oliveira, Castroviejo, Kung, Kelderman, Coppel, Brandle or Barta.0 -

Dowsett doesn't have a chance, I dont think. 8th in 2012, but 41st in 2013 and 20th last year. And he didnt look too brilliant in ToB.
Martin won Tour du Poitou Charentes last month. He'll be good, you can bet on it. Dennis will have been watching Dumoulin knock himself out in the Vuelta, and smiling, I suspect.0 -

Be surprised if Marcin beats Dowsitt. As for road worlds with the strength of the Belgian and Spanish squads one of them should win if their riders are happy to sacrifice their own chances for a team mate but with national and trade team conflicts as well as personal ambition its easy for that to go out the window.0 -

Anyone got any news on how selective or not the course is?

Strange. Cycling News tweeted that the Yates twins weren't surprised to be left out of the Australian team.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Well normally once the guys turn up to the circuit and see a few races they get a clearer idea on how it's going to play out and how selective (i.e. How many will be there at the finish) it is.0 -

As I thought, G not focusing on classics any more: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/geraint-thomas-to-focus-on-stage-racing-not-classics-in-2016-192175?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social0

Makes sense.
They're a "pre season" sideshow in the grand scheme of things.
yeah, after I posted I had basically the same thought. I was hoping G was going to change that though.0 -

From Cyclingnews:
The roads, to start with are wide, and flat before the first cobbled ascent of Libby Hill. Positioning will be crucial – think of the bergs of Flanders but with less severe cobbles – before a steep descent. The road then flattens before the 100-metre-long climb up 23rd Street, which pitches up at 19 per cent. Once again the road descends before the final ascent up Governor Street and the same false flat that concluded the team time trial. The men will race 259.2 kilometres, while their elite female counterparts will race 129.6 kilometres.0 -
Ok.
This is on Sunday night when?
I'm coming back from holiday and I only found I had Rai sport on the TV last night so I have no idea when is what0 -
For those considering a wager on the race, I assume the sensible thing to do is watch the women's race on Saturday to get a better feel for how the finish plays out?0

Anyone got any news on how selective or not the course is?
Am I alone in thinking the Worlds race always seems stupidly long? Any real outsiders are worn away by the shear distance.0
