Stage 17 TdF 2015 Digne-les-Bains / Pra Loup *SPOILERS*

I always hate to see any rider lose time to punctures/mechanicals or even crashes but maybe you could argue that last point could be down to rider error e.g. Pinot.
It's much more exciting to see riders duking it out and taking chunks of time out of each other. Even though I was rooting for Geraint, I felt for Contador today because even if the crash was rider error, he probably felt the pressure of having to make up time and maybe just overcooked it (or did Barguil take him out?). It could happen to any of them and probably has at one time or another.
Also, can someone explain to me how what Valverde is doing is in any way helping Quintana? Rogers led Contador in their earlier attack, Thomas is usually in front of Froome pulling him along but Valverde very rarely does a similar job for Quintana. When Valverde attacks it's for Valverde.0 -
How strange.....the French celebrating a self confessed doper yet fling piss over a clean rider.0

What else can Valverde do though?0 -
No, I think you have this wrong. I genuinely like it when Contador loses in any form. It's great to see.
Sometimes it comes across as your only interest in cycling.
It's not. My comments against Contador are absolutely dwarfed by the posts obsessing about him. I genuinely enjoy watching all pro cycling, fandom tires me though, personally I think it's the reserve of kids really.
Today's stage was a great watch even if the GC story was not unfolding much (not that it was going to). The last two good stages have been made exciting by the descents rather than the climbs which has been great viewing.0 -

Riis: "I'm disappointed to see how Tinkoff-Saxo handled the situation. Bad communication. Majka should have stopped and waited for Contador"
Absolutely.
Hardly a surprise when the boss treats his riders like a pimp treat's his ho. Why anyone would want to ride for a team managed by Oleg defeats me. Surely they don't need the money that badly
Most companies have someone who's like Oleg. Just usually less successful.

I agree but similarly most people, if able to make the choice, would not choose to work for such an individual0 -

Pinot looked shaky even before his crash, but he has got the yips before so it is not surprising.
Valverde is not a sacrificial lamb like Rogers. They are both riding for positions, and not riding against each other. That is they can attack in turns.0 -

Quite.
The trouble is that they are tolerated on most forums and it gets to a point that reasonable voices and different opinions are lost in the white noise generated by these individuals to the point that everyone else walks away and it becomes almost a blog!Trail fun - Transition Bandit

Looking a lot like Contador last TdF. Still fighting but the batteries are running down.
Why? He's currently the holder of two GTs and will probably finish 4th in this tour. It's hardly all over for his career. Plus next year, he has said he is not going to ride the Giro.
I don't know, obviously, but great champions tend not to just fade away and i can't see him coming back next year to finish 4th again (and we'll have to see what he manages this year).
I don't think he's fading away. He's just crocked after the Giro. He's not my favourite rider, but he's the only one in recent years to give the Giro-Tour double a serious crack.
He's probably not got too many years left though, given he's been winning GTs since 2007.0 -

Tell you what, I'll lessen the Contador stuff then. Hopefully you know who will lessen his constant ridiculous insinuations on certain teams and riders, their character and so on as well as his irrelevant and unrelenting Contador stuff.
I'll lessen it anyway, I bet you any money he doesn't though.
There you go. I'm actually completely reasonable!0 -

Didn't Iainf suggest a two or three years ago that AC wouldn't win another TdF, looking a very good bet now.0

Porte says that Contador crashed right in front of him. He doesn't know what happened. Calls Contador one of the best descenders around.

FF - your standards are slipping. Letting him off for not doing his jersey up !
Anyway he gets my vote for beard of the year, especially now that Paolini has gone.0 -
Maybe not but my company does your 360 whilst you are in the room.

Contador: "It was a crash. My wheel went. We tried to fix the bike and, since it wasn't good, I got Sagan's bike...I tried to adapt to it as best I could on the descent...At the foot of the climb I got one of my bikes again. And I tried to limit the loss."Contador is the Greatest0

It's not a case of liking him or not just I think he's pretty much said next year will be his last. He also said he wants to end on a high. Vuelta it is then! 8)0 -

Haha, well it crossed my mind but considering the ride he just put in I think it is fair to let him offContador is the Greatest0 -

Exactly why they don't stand a chance against Sky. Having two effective leaders on a team both interested in GC never works, it just splits the effort not concentrates it. Movistar need to decide who their #1 is for future Tours. What would they rather have two riders on the lower steps of the podium or one on the top?0 -

Great win and would have been a great image for promoting Giant but for the zip.
Plaza managed it whist Cummings also forgot. There is a marketing guy with his head in his hands right now.
Still a terrific 'feel good' win though, just like Cummings.Coach H. (Dont ask me for training advice - 'It's not about the bike')0 -

If it's a 360 surely you get to discuss your bosses strengths and weaknesses afterwards?
Though in practice this might not be the best of moves, granted.0
