Are we going to reprise the "cobbles in a grand tour" argument from last year if there is any fallout tomorrow?
Great stages, but it wrecks the Tour if a GC/s gets injured. I guess it's up to the team's to take the risks. Mix things up has to be good.0 -
Just been watching last night's Vive le Velo.
The overhead camera from 1km out and subsequent shots from the front are very telling.
Yesterday, I thought Contador simply couldn't hold the wheel, when the pace was raised for the lead out.
Today, I'd say that he was lucky Sky didn't contribute to lifting the pace.
At the km mark, it shows him lose Froome's wheel, fight to hang on, then drift backwards through the group and just about avoids going out the back altogether by hanging onto TJVG's wheel, simply because TJ was also in the gutter."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Haha. Can you name me one time he was able to be anywhere close in a sprint? Answer is never. Yesterday is totally normal. You should note who else couldn't hold the wheel...including G. So what, it is a 65km/h sprint, it is the silliest thing I can think of to draw conclusions from.
USA 11 VAN GARDEREN, Tejay (BMC RACING) + 4
GBR 12 THOMAS, Geraint (SKY)
ESP 13 CONTADOR VELASCO, Alberto (TINKOFF - SAXO)
COL 14 URAN URAN, Rigoberto (ETIXX - QUICK STEP)
FRA 15 GALLOPIN, Tony (LOTTO SOUDAL)
AUS 16 RENSHAW, Mark (ETIXX - QUICK STEP)
GER 17 SIEBERG, Marcel (LOTTO SOUDAL)
CZE 18 KREUZIGER, Roman (TINKOFF - SAXO)
And if he has slightly more tired legs compared to Froome, are you surprised? One has been out on the roads winning a GT whereas the other has been training on a sunny island.Contador is the Greatest0 -
So one is a racer with a killer instinct and the other is over confident and monotonous?
Here's some example of Froome being a racer and having killer instinct:

I love how Hanson continuing after dislocation makes him a hero whereas Contador was lying becoz u couldn't continue with a dislocationContador is the Greatest0 -
SLight change of subject but why the blazes are all the cycling sites going so nuts over the new Trek? Velonews must have had 5 features on it and cyclingnews have "The new trek domane! In YELLOW!" as a main news item today.
Does it really represent such a massive leap forward in our understanding of the bicycle?
Edit: In fact cycling news did a feature on Cancellara's white version just yesterday!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Another one hits the block. Tiring.
Ah the old FF is back, it's been a while (well since last July). Just block anyone that doesn't agree and bonus points if that person also adds evidence to the argument to further their point.0 -

No, we know it's all marketing hype. Still doesn't change the fact it's shinny new carbon and you/we want one!0 -
you would ve though they'd make him ride the Madone eh?
Friebos in the Cycling Podcast mentioned that all of EQS's balls up have a common denominator in the team car - any idea who they meant? (Not Brian Holm or Ralf Aldag)We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

no. Cancellara likes his bling though. that logo thing on the stem must use up 0.1 watt... he won't be in yellow by the end of the day i'd suggest. no more trek yellow bikes hopefully.
Question for you folks, anyone actually like these yellow bikes. though Dennis's BMC was understated in comparison. Like Greipels green meanie for the points jersey...0 -

This is the only way Frenchie will see your post.
Someone mentioned the forum being an echo chamber yesterday. It must be like this every day for Frenchie, as he blocks anyone who disagrees with him, so the forum must just be full of opinions he agrees with, and no counter arguments.
Kind of defeats the point of a forum, in my opinion.
But hey ho, each to their own0 -

In the big man's defence. I give him as much as anyone and he's never blocked me."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Wilfred Peeters?
That's who I was thinking. For some reason I have an irrational dislike for him... esp after watching that vid you posted!0 -
Intelligent riding from Brailsford's boys, taking full advantage of the mindless thrashing from Tinkov's toys. All Alberto's hot air is designed to distract Oleg from the notion that they gave Froome an armchair to the line....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

Kwiatek superb but check out those pink Sidis!

Little Flower was doing some cracking turns yesterday. I do think E-QS would be mad to let him go...0 -
This man was spitting feathers.
Must have been properly thirsty. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Should be another on the BR Bingo.
It is hard to believe that FF is actually an adult and not a 7 year old girl. :?0 -
Lemond questioning why BMC and Sky did not work harder yesterday. Reckons another minute, to 90 seconds would have been available. He knows a thing or 2 about racing0
-
Sky only had 3 in the group so needed to protect Froome in case anything went wrong. I do think BMC with 5 could have added some extra help.
Still amazed how Sagan got back on so quickly and then had enough to almost win.
Shame Renshaw went 50-100m too early and then left Cav dangling. EQS are brilliant at forcing the selections but boy are they poor at finishing them off properly.0 -
He should ve styled that out as a dive to get the bottle...
Well yeah - but mid dive I mean...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

BMC seemed more concerned about where the yellow jersey was than pushing for TeeJay ??0 -

Not how I saw it at all. BMC were pulling on occasion and Dennis was left completely alone in the 2nd group with a face like thunder."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
