FT has done some digging into the fairly punchy sino-British deal value inflation since the president turned up to see what caused it.

I have voted Labour since the end of the 80's, I've worked all my life until the last 3 years when I have became seriously disabled. I live on benefits now, I have no choice, but I've paid Tax & NI for 30 years so I don't feel bad about it. I detest the workshy, lazy yobs on my and every other estate who take, take, take but never think of giving anything back. Can't be bothered to work, can't be bothered to learn, can't be bothered to obay the law but, "oi - I know my rights". Half of them "on the sick" or "disabled" - yeah, right. Try being properly disabled, having to go through a nightmare of red tape all because so many people are too lazy or too stupid to work.
Jeremy Corbyn does not represent me. He represents the work-shy and idle, people who want "class war" so they can have more money to sit around doing nothing.
This Conservative government doesn't like me, it's cutting my benefits, my tax credits, my housing benefit - it doesn't like disabled people, especially if we genuinely can't work, then it hates us, it seems to think we're the parasites.
But... and it's a big but, if Corbyn ever got into power it would turn this country into a laughing stock. The man is in a time-warp, he thinks it's 1977 all over again, he loves the Russians, who by the way hate us. He loves terrorists, trots off round the world to see them. People who have and would spill British blood on British streets.
If he ever got into power I would 100% back a coup to get him and his crackpot mates out of government and in front of a wall. I would prefer the Tories, I really would, that's how much I hate him and his kind.
I don't know any sane person who would welcome his coming into power.
From an old Labour voter - shame on him and anyone who supports him. Get him out now, so we can have a proper Labour government, one who cares about everyone in the country, one who actually cares about the country itself, rather than a crackpot ideology.

In response to the woman on Question Time who was held up as an example of the dissatisfaction felt by voters who had voted Tory. This is one of the comments following an article in the Indie. Perhaps this gives an indication of the problems a Corbyn led Labour Party has.
Of course, he could be making his tale up just like the woman on QT appears to have done.0 -

This is the old leftie cliche of 'Do what I say, don't do what I do'. Can you not see how the electorate might see that as not just hypocritical, but also condescending? Could go some way to explaining why some political parties did so badly at the last GE"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

Depends on the situation. If he is living in a comprehensive area and has sent his children outside that area to go a selective, then yes it's hypocritical. If, on the other hand, his LEA is a selective area, then it isn't hypocritical, because if you're opposed to grammar schools, then you are also opposed to secondary moderns, so he'd basically have a choice between sending his children to one type of school that he doesn't believe should exist, or another type of school that he doesn't believe should exist.
On the grammar schools thread, I said that I don't believe that 11 years old is an appropriate age to select children according to ability. I believe in comprehensive schools with streaming according to ability with academic, vocational or mixed paths available to the pupils. However, living in Kent, I do not have that option available to me, so I would prefer to send my boys to grammar school, especially as the local secondary moderns are a bit sh1te.
Not knowing enough about the area in which Seamus Milne lives, it's quite difficult to form a judgement as to whether or not he's hypocritical.0 -

We live in a competitive system. Free market etc.
I'll give you an F1 analogy since I'm watching the GP at the moment.
Most teams agree that costs need to come down in order for it to be sustainable, but they don't want to give up their spending unless all the others will do theirs. Else they'd lose out. So they argue that they'd be better off having a rule (law) that would make everyone reduce their costs at the same time and by a fair amount. Meanwhile, they're spending more than ever.
Is that hypocritical?0 -

Based on the meaning of the word, yes.
Does not change the fact that the electorate does not generally take kindly to politicians telling them what they should or should not be doing, but not practising what they preach."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

Recessions are part of the economic cycle regardless of who is in charge. That article states the bleeding obvious: if I made the same claim I know that I would be right eventually.
Unfortunately many are too keen for a recession to come so they can claim that those nasty tories got it wrong on the economy."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
If recession is on the way, we best get that deficit down sharpish. We don't want a big deficit with less money coming in do we?0

Yes, but when the predictions start becoming more numerous, that usually means it's getting closer. I wonder if the Tories will be able to get it out of the way quickly enough for the recovery to be in full swing by the next election?0 -

i read that article as i dont believe in these so called purges are good for any party, but this doesnt seem to be the case that the Torygraph is painting, she is an unknown in a litmus test by election of Corbyns leadership, labour will have to win this or be flamed by the media.
