  • Chaps what's the difference between the "classic" and "passione" shorts/ Just colour schemes?

Had an email from LP, the summer sale is on. Classic bibs are £60 which is a steal.

Thanks for pointing that out. I got the last XS pair - £61 plus shipping (€10). I wanted two pairs but there we are.

Thinking of getting a pair of these, though not sure between medium and large. I'm 5'11 with a 35" inside leg. The inseam measurement on their website (i.e. crotch to tan-line) comes out around 10", but not sure how accurate this is.

Can anyone advise on sizing? If it helps, I currently wear Endure FS260 Pro in a medium; these are a good fit bar the length, which would ideally be an inch or so longer.

Can anyone advise on this? Based on their size chart, I'm either a M or L. Waist is about 32.5".

Have you emailed la passione? I found them to be very helpful and quick at getting back in touch.
It's a difficult one to answer bearing in mind your inside leg but I'm also a med in the FS260s and find the la passiones a tighter fit with a longer leg length. I reckon med!

Anyone around Central/SW London want to go halves on a couple of pairs to get free postage while the sales are on?

I will be getting an M assuming they're not sold out. Anyone keen?

Having had to bin my 10yr old Assos when my friend told me they were becoming too revealing (in an eponymous sort of way..) I have been following this thread with interest.

Decided to try LP. Incredibly fast and helpful response and they've given me a 15% discount for ordering 2. I went for one Classic and 1 Passione. At £70 each this seems too good to be true but I'll find out and report back.

I received my second pair of La Passione bibs last week, went for the all black this time. Great fit, great packaging, fast delivery and a more than reasonable price. Would highly recommend.

Be interested to hear what you make of them versus the Assos - I'd say you got your moneys worth out of those!

The only minor niggle I have, is that the material that touches the saddle is pilling a bit on mine, but only because my Fizik saddle has that grippy material on it, although I hadn't noticed any of my other bib shorts/tights doing this - weird as it looks a lot more hardy that other ones.

la passione (lapassione.cc) make what are essentially rapha classic bibs (I think, could be PT) but cost £80. 10% off with FROMTOBY10 and free postage over 70 quid, so bang on. A friend (toby, incidentally) has a pair and raves about them. He's just bought his second pair and a load of tops. Seem highly recommended and worth a look.

Well having started the whole idea as above I bought a pair which arrived on Weds. Well packaged and come in a musette bag which is a nice touch. For my longer rides, Rapha PT shorts in a medium are my go-to, so I also bought these in a medium (6ft, 32 waist/leg, 36 chest). I think i could have gone small but it would have been too much. The straps aren't as snug as some people have said on here, but the compression around the thighs is ideal for me.

Pad felt pretty thick, so I was pretty happy about that. The pad is basically identical to that in the Rapha shorts, except for the colour. My PT bibs have a black pad, these are yellow. The Rapha ones also have some small holes (like breathing holes?) to keep you cool down there. The LP ones do not. The other quite nice touch was the 'ribbed' material on the inner thigh. Not sure what its for (possibly how LP keep them breathable?) but has a nice texture and goes to show the thought gone into the materials.

Had them delivered to work and rode them for a couple of commutes (10 miles) most of which was spent in the drops, and I ride quite an aggressive position (see sig for my bike). Comfort was spot on and, dare I say it, nicer than the Raphas they were bought to compliment.

Just back back from this mornings ride, a fairly fast 95 miler in Surrey where I basically spent the whole time in the drops, and these are definitely more comfortable than my Rapha shorts (I am pained to admit, as I am bit of a brand whore). Usually after a hard hour or 2 of riding, my backside gets quite sore (possibly a saddle issue) but it means I always have to stand up to get some relief. This was definitely not the case with the LP shorts, and these could easily be my go to shorts for longer rides (unless there are photographers, obviously).

All in all, for £62, they are the best shorts I own. Wish I was on commission!
  • I would recommend Rapha.

The shorts are expensive. They offer a 30 day return, they also offer repairs.... and they are super comfortable.

I found it very uncomfortable before having Rapha... now I fully recommend them if you spend a lot of time on the bike. I do 100-200km per week and go overseas once or twice a year.

All comes down to your budget, how much you ride, and how much you need some comfortable on the saddle.

This appears to be the Rapha Classic bib shorts chamois http://www.elasticinterface.com/schede/endurance-anatomic-vintage-men/

This appears to be the La Passione bib short chamois http://www.elasticinterface.com/schede/endurance-anatomic-joker-men/

The LP padding is a lot more comfortable than the X2 padding in my Castelli bibs, they really are worth buying, stitched better too!

Ah stop telling people about them Cori. I like the fact that not many people wear them.

You would have loved the guy in matching tops and bottoms then going the opposite way to our chaingang in Richmond park. All of whom were in matching tops and bottoms

Surely not a whole 100km per week? I've done more before work on a good day.
  • Anyone read this month's Cyclist? Coriordan hasn't. The company clearly states that they make a custom pad specifically for Rapha. It's not sold to smaller companies as part of their range. Assos also get their own pads too. The pad in these bibs is NOT the same as the PT or Classic.

Read your own post. You say that the Rapha ones have extra breathing holes and on a long ride, the LP shorts are much more comfortable. How can that be if the pad is the same?

Or perhaps they are the same and the improvement is all in your head?? I am fully prepared to believe that the LP shorts are more comfortable, but you can't have it both ways.
  • Rode for 15 hrs in the sun yesterday in the shorts plus one of their tops. The shorts are faultless. No discomfort at all. I'll probably be going in for a few more pairs. The top can ride up a bit but it is tiny so not surprising.

Maybe this has been said before(I didn't read all the posts), but I've found clothing company's higher end shorts and bibs are all very good, comfortable products.

In fairness, the Rapha pad could be described as custom because it is sold to them in Black whereas the similar pad in other shorts is yellow. That is not to say that the foam isn't the same.

I have just spent a week riding in the Alps and wore my new La Passion bibs and also these...
    http://www.evanscycles.com/products/louis-garneau/cb-carbon-2-bib-short-ec101938#features

Both pads were really comfortable but the Louis Garneau became my go to bibs as the temperature climbed to 35 degrees or more. They were noticeably cooler to wear and that made a huge difference.

I had one of the LA Passion summer tops too which was a joy to wear, cool and quickly wicking away moisture. My older merino based Rapha summer tops were much warmer to wear and nowhere near as comfortable.

The website shows 3 types of bibshorts without much of a description. Does anyone know if they are all the same aside from the colour?

Having initially bought the 'classic' design, and really loved wearing them, I went for a pair of 'passione' design - and from what I can see the only difference is the design, not the construction. Not sure if the tricolour band at the bottom is worth €10 more, but I got mine in the sale so only a few quid more.

Just as an update, the LPs are my new go-to bib shorts for long rides. Did a 100 miler a couple of days ago and the discomfort levels were notably less than what I would expect from my other shorts. They seem to be wearing quite well, too. I have a Brooks Cambium saddle, which some people reckon is particularly harsh on shorts, but I've not had any issues with that at all so far. They were very tight when I first tried them on, but now they have relaxed just a little so it's a compressive fit but not 'too' tight.

i've decided to try them now as well. i also got the lp15 code when i signed up to the email and it also didn't work for me. i've dropped them an email and hopefully they'll sort me a code out pretty quickly. i actually won't save that much though as it will take me under the free delivery minimum spend. however if i also but a £63 jersey i'll get 15% off and save about £7 postage so it will actually only cost about £47. i cold do with a better wicking bright commuting jersey... hmmm....
