In the news because of the trade deal negotiations, where India wants to include easier "movement of people".rick_chasey said:

Unfortunately for that Brexit bonus, Johnson has got scared by his back benchers and apparently nixed it. Probably makes it a bit difficult for the people who have been spending months trying to prepare that deal. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/europe/johnson-dismisses-visa-link-with-india-trade-deal-talks/articleshow/88724409.cms0 -
So we can scrub #10.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

The UK could have loosened the requirements for Indians at any time.rick_chasey said:

Maybe Labour will do it one day. If that is not enough of an upside, just think how good it is that it can no longer be blamed on the EU. That's an upside in itself.kingstongraham said:0 -

This is quite remarkable
Fairly long article - none of it is about Brexit.
Lad was put in exclusively to handle Brexit negs and he’s opining on everything but like he’s deputy PM.0 -

They also have bigger problems than Christmas parties from a while ago. Some things are easy to score points with. Time will tell.0

It's not really an autarky model, but more to do with evidence of the the gradual erosion of the current "London the towering financial hub for the whole of Europe" model to a more fragmented "across Europe" model, with the EU looking to bring key financial functions within the union over the long term.TheBigBean said:

Most of the article is about the failure of the EU to do that with more promises that it will definitely happen one day (when they can finally implement an autarky). If you look at Euro swap clearing, London clears a greater percentage now than it did a few years ago.rick_chasey said:
