the youtube clip is illuminating as Terpstra comes past Wiggins at 44.00min.

Wiggins looks across and clearly sees Terpstra accelerating down the line, starting an attack but doesn't respond. With 6.5km to go you must expect this kind of thing... so what's your response going to be, given that you have your teammate in the group too?

Obviously, it's easy to be clever after the event but at the time I was thinking... go on then, get after him! Maybe the Sky boys (and everyone else) were shot so they couldn't do anything. Fair enough. But if he wants to win it this year then something has to change...

We see it time and time again in pro-cycling. No-one wants to be the sacrificial lamb and so no-one leads the response to an attack.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

If it rains then anything can happen but in normal circumstances Boom isn't on the same level as the likes of Cancellara, Vanmarcke, Boonen etc.

That certainly happened in the 1993 World Championship in Norway.

No-one's mentioned Greg Van Avermaet yet... 2nd, 7th and 4th in the last 3 editions of Flanders and 4th in Roubaix in 2013. At least a dark horse this year, if not a major contender.

GVA looks like he's getting better year on year. He's always a good PTP pick of a place

Kristoff has to be a shout for Flanders. 15th, 4th, 5th in the last 3 editions.

On another note is Valverde going to be as good as last year throughout?

Boon only won stage 5 because vanmarcke, who was right behind him at the time punctured. And as mentioned, he does not last in the long races.

    Not good enough over 200km.

Is this the first outing of Rick's catchphrase this season?

Cancellara is looking hungry. Stuyven looks like a good lieutenant in the making. Can Devolder be arsed? If he can, Trek are looking very able.

On that note, I wonder if Devolder will try to break his own record for the number of crashes in a single edition of the Ronde?
  • Devolder had about 5 years worth of bad luck on one afternoon last year.

Might even have an e/w bet on him this year ! :)
  • Been out to ride the last 70km of Omloop today, so you on't have to! Here are my findings...

    1. Orica Green Edge had the same idea, I crossed paths with a group of 7 of them a couple of times.
    2. Tune in early... the 3km before the Taainberg will be mayhem. The second bit of Donderij is a shambles then the route down to the bottom of the climb (its the other direction to the way RVV goes) is covered in mud and has a trench full of cobbles to seperate the bike lane. Then they make a left down a windy single track descent full of gravel and farm muck.
    3. The Molenberg is proper slippy as they covered it in sand over the winter so residents could get their cars up and down and its washed down the hill and clumped on the corner.
    4. They need to get somebody round with a pressure washer as some of the lanes are absolutely clarted.

The man is a bad luck magnet. He traded in a lifetime's worth of luck for those two Ronde wins. This is a man who once got taken out of KBK by a dustbin. Don't bet on him.

For someone who's supposed to be a Flanders specialist his positioning for key parts is terrible.

He comes to grief because he's in parts of the pack he shouldn't be, having to take more risks and riding with weaker riders in his immediate vicinity.

Is it on British TV? Rarely is, and I'm working Saturday...

Has Hola been added to Rick's how to watch cycling sticky? It's the best way to un-georestrict a feed by far!

Baffles me that we don't get Het Volk (yes I know) but we do get KBK. The former is always the better race.

Plus it has a great name, second only to Dwars Door

There's a perfectly market-forces friendly explanation for this natural phenomenon. One of the rich dicks ( :) ) will be with us presently.

  • Can we discuss Milan San Remo in this thread?

I think Lobato looks a great bet on his current form. Smashed Degenkolb in Andalucia. Kristoff looks like the new Hushovd. Wouldn't rule out Cavendish either. He looks properly lean.

Then there's always the chance someone will go long.

As a race, it's not as relentless as the Ronde or Paris Roubaix but the finish is usually intriguing and hard to pick a winner this year.
