Well my bike is loosening up at the forks qr and I'm having to tighten it up a lot to stop it coming loose. Reckon it's the wheel bearings so I'll get the lbs to check it out. Also to check the fork alignment. I took a big pothole hit last winter.

The back week qr came loose a few times but I was a towing a trailer so put it down to the trailer and the qr that came with it. Perhaps get that checked out too in light of Sean's snapped chainstay.

One thing I noticed, when stood on the bike with brakes on and stamping on the pedals I got the distinct impression it moved the whole bottom bracket over. Now I'd switched to marathons in 622 40 (700x38 I believe). They were the same size as the old tyres but are distinctly fatter. I wondered whether that apparent movement was really happening or just the tyres taking out the force of my pedal motion. It's just that towing the trailer I got the feeling it's not a very stiff bike, quite flexible. That photo of the snapped chainstay got me worried.

I have asked a few staff at customer services, and they all said its the first they have heard of a snapped chain stay on the London Road. They also said its a very strong bike. I too pulled the brakes and stood on the pedals and found the bike very flex. It could have been my weak chain stay so I cant say for sure. Maybe it is a flexy bike and im too power heavy with it? Hopefully the new frame feels better from the start. I noticed the bike was always very very flexi when cornering, so hopefully thats another outcome from the chainstay.

Is that your LR on the PX website? With the lime and black bar tape? Whats the tape?

And whats wrong with your other bike on the last picture? Its all taped up?

Those are inner tubes wrapped round the frame where the sheffield stands in work contact the frame.

Let us know if your new bike is as flexi, if it isn't then I might worry about mine.

Anyone else find their bike flexi?

Would you rate the tape over Lizard Skins? Or is the high price because its got 2 colours?

Can't comment as I've never used Lizard Skins tape, I'm guessing the high price might be down to the two colours.

    Hi all!

I'm considering a PX LR but am still unsure about the right size. I own a 2012 Canyon Ultimate AL Di2 in size medium.

    Mx7mIpT.jpg

PX recommended a LR in size medium as well.

    London-Road-geometry-project-bikes-bg.jpg

    My measurements are:

    based on: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/Store ... orBike.jsp

    Inseam: 83cm
    Trunk: 68.5cm
    Forearm: 34cm
    Arm: 64.5cm
    Thigh: 61.5cm
    Lower Leg: 55.5cm
    Sternal Notch: 146cm
    Total Body Height: 178cm

I'm kinda torn between medium and large. Usage would be for the regular commute and gravel.
    What would you opt for?

    The plot thickens!

So PX have swapped my components over to the new frame and told me on wednesday its being shipped. I rang today and it had not left the workshop yet. I got an email to say DHL have picked it up, so ill be expecting that in about 6 months.

    It gets better

I have been emailing to say that I never sent my wheels with the bike but will the mechanic have indexed the gears or set the brakes up? I was told no, I will have to do all that myself? Im not that bothered, as I can do it, but I would have thought the bike would be sent back in the same working condition when I first bought it? I was also told, they recommend I bring the bike to a LBS to have it checked over for any problems and to set it up, as the bike will need to be set up in a few areas. Im hoping he means adjust the bars like when you buy a bike from them. Why should I spend more money? THey have a mechanic putting the bike together. Can he not check that it is safe?

Same old scenario. Great bikes but shocking after sales service.

Shes back and I have finally got it tuned up. I bloody hate dialing in those BB7 brakes. I have to say I really rate the green over the black frame

Chuffed to bits with mine. Built it up a few weeks ago and have put a couple of hundred miles on it now commuting and weekend rides and it's spot on. No drop in speed coming from a race geo bike either which I thought was inevitable. Was built with commuting and winter in mind but I've been impressed enough that I've put off buying anew best bike till next year.

Running 105 5800, Pro Lite Revo wheels, TRP Spyre and all in cost around £600 (already had the groupset).

Does anyone know how much work is involved with swapping the avid bb7 brakes to trp spyre? If I keep the same size rotor will I not need any adapters?

Fitting and setting up the Spyre's was a piece of cake considering I've never even touched disc brakes before. Getting the caliper centered on the disc was the only faff, but it only took a few mins to get sorted.

I take it the caliper bolts to the frame mount the same way as the bb7? No adapters needed? There are mixed reviews but centering bb7s always brings mixed results. I can't stop that slight scrape of the rotor. It doesn't affect the wheel spin but it's annoying

I switched the BB7's on mine for TRP Spyres. Nothing drastically wrong with the BB7's but I had been running the Spyres on my Genesis Equilibrium Disc and just liked the feel of them better.

The swap was a straight one with no adaptors needed. The only thing to note is that the BB7's have some proprietary cup shaped washers fitted that are supposed to help with setting the angle/position of the caliper. The Spyres just have standard flat washers but I found no problems with the set up.

The major benefit of the Spyres is that each pad can be adjusted independently with a 3mm (I think) allen key so that you can fine tune the set up more easily than with the BB7's. Just be aware that the adjustment screw can be quite difficult to get moving initially (or so I found on mine). Make sure you use a good quality allen key and make sure it is properly seated in the screw to avoid stripping the head. You will also need an allen key with a decent length as you need to access the inboard pad through the wheel spokes.

If it's any help I am about an inch taller than you but have the same inseam measurement. I went for the Large based on frame dimensions compared to all the other bikes I've ridden in the past. I also run a 90mm stem rather than the 100mm that would normally be fitted to a Large sized frame.

I'm smaller than you guys but was borderline small/medium - I went with medium and I'm definitely glad I did as I think the frame is quite compact. You may find you get toe and heel overlap issues if you go with the smaller one.

I'm 5'11 on a medium with a 110mm stem. I do get toe overlap but it doesn't really bother me.

Hi guys, thanks for all the input. I ordered a medium from the clearance bike section today. Kinda went with my gut feeling (also stack/reach is close to the canyon). Fingers crossed...

I get toe overlap with my road bike - didn't bother me.

I got mine a month ago, large Zezty Lime with the Rival 22 groupset, fitted a rack and mudguards and swapped the Randonneurs for Gatorskins. First time using double tap shifters, very intuitive, don't understand the hate for BB7's. I have them on my Disc Trucker and prefer them to the Spyres on my Genesis, bit noisy in the wet, but they do the job.

It rides really well, maybe not as fast as full road bike, but goes well enough for me.

Fresh back from an 850 mile tour of the Pacific West Coast (N Oregon to San Francisco) on the PX London Road and it performed excellently. Some proper hills along the coast and through the redwoods of N California, but all very doable on the standard 11-spd Rival set-up. Would recommend!

  • @PhilPub that journey looks epic, I bet it was an amazing experience! Impressive distance too.
What made you take your bike rather than trying to hire one there? Isn't taking your bike as luggage a bit of a pain?

It wasn't too bad actually. We flew with Air Transat, budget Canadian airline (via Vancouver where my brother lives), who charge just $30CAN for bikes, packed in a CTC bike bag. So a lot cheaper than hiring out there and you've got your own bike. We also used various buses and an overnight train to complete the journey and everywhere was pretty bike-friendly, other than a single overly-officious security guard at Vancouver airport who made us unpack the bikes for "swabbing"!

I've got Chromoplastics with 32c, no clearance issues. Longboards probably better coverage but I've fashioned my own mud flaps using plastic from milk bottle cartons and some "Gorilla" tape. (Shiny black duct tape!)
