robertpb wrote:I can explain it you ate too many calories for the amount of calories you burnt.
If you were laying flat on your back for 24 hours without moving or talking you would burn about 1800 calories. So if you gain weight and you are just walking about with not much exercise you'd have to be consuming over 2200 calories to gain weight.
My breakfast which is homemade muesli of oats and a lot of nuts comes to around 1000 calories, so by the time I've had my other meals and other bits and pieces I've eaten a fair few calories. But I still weigh 61 kilos and have done so for the last 44 years.
I avoid fruit juice like the plague, eat the fruit it's better. Good food comes in it's own packaging not in a cardboard box.
Well it's confusing. I would have a small breakfast around 9am, then cycled about a mile and a half uphill to my new house, have a box of chicken and chips around 2pm. Then finish off at around 5 and come home and have a daal curry with salad and one white flour chapatti around 6pm. Aswell as cycling to new house I would also ride with friends locally for a shortwhile. I did that for 10 months and stayed at 9 stone, then soon as I settled in to new house within 3 months, my weight just went up to 12 stone. I was really baffled as to how it could have happened. I started having a complex problem where I just could not look at myself in the mirror due to having the biggest cheeks in the world and excess facial fat as a result of the weight gain. I was 17 at the time and very skinny. Either I was due to put on weight naturally because of age and growth or maybe because I was eating the wrong types of food. Bearing in mind I've also got a medical condition which is a Thyroid malfunction and is controlled by taking 2 tablets every morning prescribed by the doctors. I've given up on researching how it affects me because doctors say one thing and the internet research which is more in depth says another thing. But I think it has a lot to do with my weight gain because people with Thyroid problems tend to be overweight, but I'm not. And back then I don't think I use to consume more than 1500 calories a day.
For you to have weighed 61 kilos for 44 years, I'm assuming you must have either been thin genetically or had a good diet with regular exercise. Either way my view could be wrong, but what would you say attributes to your body being so lean?0 -
You are not fat. Your body shape is just shit cos you don't exercise. I'm not sure how tall you are, but 12 stone isnt a lot.0

Yh, I exercise for a week or 2 after signing up for a gym membership then I don't go. The longest I've been to gym in past 5 years is boxing for 1 month, 3 times a week.
I'm 5ft9" tall.0 -
12 stone is far from fat for your height. You're out of shape because you're unfit.
I know rugby players who are similar height to you and 18 stone without being fat.
Get some exercise.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Rockmonkeys right, 7-8 years ago I was 14 stone with measured 22% body fat and was the fittest / strongest I had EVER been, could run for 3-4 miles then do an hour upper body in the gym and then 30mins cool down cardio on machines. But technically I was obese!
Get out on the bloody bike and get on with it. It was frozen solid up here yesterday morning (-1'C) and I went out and did a quick 14 miler even with this damn head cold.
Then this morning took my two boys out for a quick blast and they managed 4 miles even in the shitty mud and head wind.
Man up and get on it!GIANT XTC 2.5

18 stone, big pounders. Must eat a lot.
This weather is a crock of sh*t, the howling and the wind and rain, it's not exactly therapeutic for riding is it.
I was knocked out a few hours ago, woke up at 6am, so had an hours kip.
Got work tomorrow.
Kirby, what's wrong with you now, are you overweight? how many meals a day do you eat?0 -
Kids whats happened to me. Can't work shit loads of hours and then spend 2 hours in the gym. Eat sensible now down to 12 stone ride when I can in ALL weather. Even my 7 and 8 year old boys get on with it in this weather. You have to as your a long time dead. Oh im only 5'7" so just overweight according to medical books but so what.GIANT XTC 2.5

Yes but the right amount for the exercise they do and the right food.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Perhaps you'll see the light after your lights out moment. Nothing else seems to get through your fixation on this and lots of that0

Get out and you will feel happier, go and appreciate gods creation (your belief, not mine) do it a few times and you will find the motivation starts to appear when the weather is bad or you're not feeling great. You're lacking motivation because of your inactive lifestyle and your terrible diet which is due to your vain fixation with having a flatter belly.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Katiebob - At the moment I've got a sit down thought pattern, a sit down philosophy, that right there castrates anyone, even an old chump can sit. I need a stand up thought pattern, a do it yourself philosophy and then I can go on in to some action What Rockmonkey sc is suggesting is a good idea, to appreciate creation, I've stopped walking aswell which I quite enjoyed. I'm not gonna spend the next 6 months sitting down, but doing lots of exercise. Work life makes it hard to do anything, but I'm making up for it on the weekends and in evenings, although I haven't ridden last 4 weeks.
I'm working next Saturday and the Saturday after so got Sundays off.
I'm having some meat tonight hopefully. Just had a breakfast at 10.30am this morning and a coffee at 2, will eat now around 7pm. Might pop in to Co-op after work and get a sandwich and go home for the time being at 5pm0 -

Thanks rockmonkey sc.
I had a whole grilled chicken today in peri sauce. feel sick now, don't know what to do. I think my bodys not used to it and I don't want to eat chicken and meat anymore, I don't like it. I'll have to source my protein in other variants of food. quite fed up to be honest.
Not been for a ride today, just had to do my annual expenses sheet and savings for 2014 on laptop and some family chores in car and had to fill up at gas station but most of my day has been inside.
Will aim to go for a ride tomorrow at some point hopefully all being well. Just might need to pop in to town and go to whsmiths and have a look at some writing pens and a notebook because I plan to incorporate some study in my spare time after work and a diary for 2015. That shouldn't take too long. I could have bought a refill for my collins diary but that costs about £14.00 online amazon and ebay.0 -

A 'whole' grilled chicken? How much chicken exactly did you eat? Anyone would feel sick if they ate a whole chicken. A whole chicken is body builder quantity. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

It was actually a whole baby chicken. Quite small but filling. I had breakfast at 10am. I was suppose to go out for a meal tonight but forgot about it. Staff meal at Akbars restaurant or somewhere local. If I went I would just have stuck to a vegetarian option and felt much better.0 -
Wow. This thread is kerazy! :shock:0

That's exactly what I thought too.0

Yep, me too! That's enough to make anyone feel sick.0

No no, not Nandos. They're expensive and charge OTT prices. I went to Chicken Cottage. It was £6.00 with bowl of salad, sauces and chips. I think because I'm not used to it after not having eaten it for a long time that's why I felt sick. Nando's would have charged £19 for that. Besides our Nandos is not Halal I don't think even though they claim to be certified.
I still haven't had chance to ride yet, won't be doing for a while now. One of my new years resolutions for this year is getting fitter and saving up my money and spending less i.e minimalism. Simple living really is the way to live, it just makes sense. But yh one of the regrets I had in 2014 was buying a £600 bike which I'm not making the most use of. If I had known how short and mild this winter would be I would not have worried about how much to eat and what to wear and when to ride the bike, but focused on riding instead. I'm due an upgrade on EE on 26 Feb 2015, so will try to keep costs down as much as possible. Wanted the iPhone 6 but it's £519 with the option to spread the payment over 12 months, interest free. However I got a iPhone 5 at moment, but will upgrade to the 5S on a cheaper tarriff. Don't know which makes more sense, buy a handset from eBay and get a sim only deal from EE or get the whole thing from them, phone and minutes. I think I'm getting ripped off every time I upgrade with them.
By the way my uncle sadly passed away on Sunday afternoon. He was an intellectual giant in the family, he debated prominent people including atheists and believers from most walks of life. We've been at the the prayer hall for mourning 2 days now. He's gone on his journey back to where we all come from. The end of all journeys is back to god. To him we belong and to him we return.

Do you realise that all the time you spend on here telling us how you can't find the time to ride could be spent riding instead? All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Don't change phone then. Simples. Go onto a rolling contract and keep your 5, barely worth upgrading.
Then go and ride your forking bike. It's not difficult. You don't need to plan what to eat or anything like that. Put some clothes on, sit on saddle. Pedal. Mental.0 -
