Why are you paying so much for your sister's phone?

There was a recall on the iphone 5 battery, if yours is truly that bad then check if it's eligible.

Have you gone for a bike ride yet?

Well, I originally bought it for myself as I decided I needed something new which I could keep for a while but I was getting mixed up with my 'needs' and 'wants', it was more of a want, but felt it was too selfish and what would everyone in my family say if they found out I ordered it during the evening of my uncles funeral, which was a time to mourn and not ordering iPhones, I mean after the funeral in the evening when I had a bit of time to myself is when I ordered it. Sometimes, it's better to disdain things one cannot have. It's £51.58 per month for 12 months till Dec 2015 with 0% interest, a special offer from Apple if you order online or over the phone and I can order more than 1 handset providing I meet the credit check requirements.

My sister has severe learning difficulties. can hardly tell the time and she stays indoors most of the time because of her condition, so I wanted her to be happy and up to date with what some other girls her age have out there. I bought her an iPad Air last year from Tescos as a gift, and most recently the iPhone 6. She doesn't make the most use of them, because she doesn't know how to but then again, it's a fashion thing ain't it to have an Apple device. I'm earning a reasonable wage so feel privileged to buy people in my family something nice every once in a while.

At the moment I'm just doing an expense sheet on Excel and have kinda worked out and have yet to still work out my estimated spendings for 2015 based on last years spendings and whatever I have left over, I can either save and add it to my wage in my savings account, or spend it and give some to charity aswell. I'm not sure what phone to decide on next, though I have mentioned the 5s, I spoken to my dad and he said whatever phone Orange give him next he will give it to me and we can ask that it is an iPhone 5s in gold, and 32gb. So I have a reason not to splash out another £600 + on an iPhone 6 and wait till he gets the upgrade. He said he will keep his old 4s as he's not in to phones really.

My battery is only eligible for a replacement providing that it was purchased within the first 5 months, mines been well over a year now.

No I haven't been riding. I think I'll have to start again from beginning and get back in to it as I've not done so for 4 weeks now. I've been painting my project house since 11am today till 5pm and was very tired after. Wind is howling outside and it's raining.

I guess it's not when I'll ride, it's why I'll ride and until I find the answer which needs to be seeped in to my head, only then I'll understand and ride properly.

Mine wasn't purchased then, was purchased in April 16th and handset sent out on 17th April 2013, straight upgrade from Orange. It only costs about £6.00 to replace the battery. Apple quoted me £80 :o
Only got a month or so till my dad gets his upgrade, and will go for the iPhone 5s.

I really wouldn't waste your money. But clearly you do. Despite saying you're stopping being materialistic. A bike ride would probably help your state of mind.

Cody, you do know these days with smartphones, upgrades don't come for free right?, like say 10 years ago. It's like hire purchase and you pay each month usually these days over 24 months which is a long time and the costs add up.

Go to some back street phone/tech shop and ask them how much it is for a new battery in your 5 and get it changed. My 4s is £15 for someone to do it with what seems like an ok battery.

TBH, I've been on contract since Feb 2009, in my last 2 upgrades I have had to pay a small fee for the handsets between £50-100, this is due to reducing the price plan and the lower the tarrif, the more costly the handset. So, for example on the 5s, they're charging £179 for the handset on a £24.99 per month plan for 24 months. That's £779 in 2 years. If I had bought it cheaper from elsewhere for maybe around £300-340 brand new with 12 months Apple warranty, I could easily afford a PAYGO sim for around a reasonable £15-18 per month and after 2 years that's £782. So either way it works out the same, I get a legit handset from EE if I remain on contract, and could end up getting a dodgy handset if I go privately because not everyone sells an iPhone with warranty except some do their own shop warranty but if something goes wrong, they tend to dispute it.

I think you are doing good to keep your iPhone 4s, you could have replaced the battery yourself, just watch YouTube, Do It How videos, very easy. I don't like the colour on my iPhone 5 and want the gold colour instead but need a larger memory capacity. I could easily save money and just replace the battery for around £6.00, get it from Amazon or eBay, but, what do you do when you've had something you liked in the beginning for almost 2 years and need more space and want to see a different colour, hard to decide really. On the one hand I could save myself £300-350 by not buying a new handset. The colour on my phone doesn't bother me so much, well it does but it shouldn't right? I mean, it's what's inside the phone that counts really.

Why am I doing well to keep my phone. There is not a great deal wrong with it?

I know I could do it myself. Did the 3G many times. Just they are fiddly fukkers and would have meant getting a kit off eBay with a bit of hit and hope and the shop is just down the road and done in one hit for a fiver say and some come back.

You've clearly done the maths, just if it gets knicked by the big boys or you break it then you're still in a 24 month contract. Which sucks. big balls

Yh I respect the fact that you deciding to keep your iphone 4s. I think it's the right way to go about things.

In 24 months my phones been dropped 4 times and had a lil chip on top right corner of screen and 2 scuffs on the casing but it's in exceptionally tip top condition. I've ordered a leather flip case for it on eBay for £2.99 and I think it'll make a nice phone for a further year or 2 or so, just need to get battery sorted now and delete all 80 Motown songs off the phone which I never listen to. I don't know how to delete them, do you know how? if I can delete songs I then have more space on the phone which I can use for apps and stuff.

Oh well, I'm deciding on keeping it. That's a saving of £550 :)

Mine's been dropped 100 times. 2 new screens too, back's all cracked up. It's how it works that matters. And to that end it's still ok.

Right thanks, so I'll have to download iTunes. Mines a 16gb capacity, it's not a lot tbh, but will make a lot once I get all songs off it. I'll do that now. I have to give EE a months notice in March, contract ends in April 26th. Then they give me a pack code to move over to a service provider of my choice and keep the same number. I tend not to drop my phone if I can avoid it, but once it falls, I want to get rid of it, not used to getting stuff I own damaged so quick. Hate the feeling lol

TBH, I've deleted all songs off my iPhone without using sync on iTunes, just went to the songs and swiped them from right to left and deleted them one by one after turning off Music caption in the General and Settings tab but got 400 photos to delete if I can find them all, they're somewhere in the phone, but I'm pretty sure photos don't take up space, or do they? But it's only leaving me with 5gb storage. I've only got 20 basic apps like PayPal, eBay, Barclays, Gumtree, Swype etc and they aren't big apps but, does this mean I have no choice, but to upgrade to a higher capacity? That's what I'm thinking at the moment. TBH I don't mind spending on a new phone providing that I will keep it for a few years but, I also think it's important to not be stingy aswell, being too tight with money can make you a selfish and stubborn person. Wouldn't you all agree?

He raises a point though. This was a thread about your bike. You've turned it into your personal place to come and talk crap. Go and ride your damn bike.

On your phone rantings - why do you need more than 5gb? Why do you need more than 5mb frankly? If you've not used all the capacity why do you need a bigger one? Photos are all stored on the phone - in the photos app unsurprisingly.

I can't begin to express how disgusted I am at that image. Why on Earth is this woman allowed to roam free and not being held in a cage until it's time to cook some man's dinner?

There is a reason, though, for the full body bin-linear - what if your daughter's a bit of a moose, best to keep that a secret until after the sale, err... I mean, ceremony... or you might not be able to offload her.
