He doesn't want to be helped, he wants the attention. Whatever that is on an internet forum.

Do you not see the metaphor at the heart of this thread? Cody's inability to commit to riding his bike along a towpath is representative of the fear within us all of setting out on adventures new. His dietary struggles are analogous to the conflict between wants, needs and reality in all of us, and his relationship with his god is a symbol for the relationship between us adults and our own mother. Do we not all, within our heart of hearts, yearn to be with our mother at least 5 times a day, starting at 5am?

I didn't get the rucksack reference, though.

No, was thinking of buying one but bit expensive, the guy at Halfords suggested getting a GIRO off eBay for around £15, but not many people wear one .. why?

You can't afford any further brain damage.

or including a bottle and cage for £1 more.

Thanks cooldad, I've saved it in me watchlist. Didn't have to be approximately £15 but the guy suggested that a good quality one is around that price. The one I saw in Halfords was around £49.99, a Boardman one, yellow and black which sell for around £25-30 on eBay. I won't be needing a bottle holder just yet until the spring/summer time perhaps. I've got a rucksack the other guy above mentioned for £10, it's quite nice, can fit 2 water bottles on either side and a couple of things inside like a 7ft bike cable lock and a jacket and lunch box etc. As the weather warms up, I'm going to consider the Osprey Escapist 30 Litre in a red or blue subject to availability at the time. Will save up for it over next few months. Costs quite a bit, then again I did think about buying another Karrimor SF Predator 45 Litre rucksack for travelling around UK and abroad but as someone suggested in previous pages, there's better rucksacks out there. And my brother thinks the same too but he also thinks I don't need another military civillian rucksack.

    Here is the rucksack I sold >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Karrimor-SF-P ... 1433365231

I haven't ridden almost 2 weeks now. Got a really bad cough and not sure if I'll be able to go riding next week.
My bikes been serviced and stuff and is just sat in garage at moment.

Here, just wanted to show you another nice pic of my old bike, with the rucksack I sold recently on eBay.

The bike's got some bottle holders on them, bought from AllTerrain Cycles in Saltaire. Same kit as my current bike.

This time round I didn't get any pics of my Boardman being built by Halfords mechanics.

What do you think of my old Carrera Fury, a nice bike don't you think? was nice to ride.

What size is that bike and how tall are you? I cant be bothered to go back and find the other pic of your current bike you posted but I am looking at your old bike and thinking your saddle is too low for efficient pedaling which wont be helping your ability to cover any sort of distance. Sit on your saddle, put your heel on the pedal and your leg should be pretty much straightened fully. For the type of riding you are doing you want to ensure the saddle gives you optimum use of your muscles.

Probably needs stating in this case.

Sorry, I had trouble logging in. The login page was down for a couple of days which you probabbly are aware of.

Paul, I'm "5ft10". I went for a ride day before on Monday evening and today around 3.30pm. I raised the seat post slightly on my bike, it helped but as I was riding up the hill I was struggling a bit, not to reach the pedals but, lack of energy. I've had 2 and a half meals today. A breakfast at 10am and an evening meal at 4pm and a small piece of salmon fish at 9.30pm. I went to Leeds yesterday to buy myself a digital compact camera, spent £260 at Jessops on a Canon including a 3 year warranty and memory card but I get £30 cashback via Canon online. I should have just bought a DSLR it would have been worth the money for £40 more but I've opened the box now and can't return it. It seems like a really decent camera. Just need to make some use of it now.

I would have rode my bike to Leeds as it was a nice but slightly mild day but I didn't, I caught the train. then in evening had to go to Halifax with dad to pick up some doors we won on eBay for our house project, went all the way there turns out they were wrong size, it was our fault this time we didn't check.

I've felt some restriction in my lower thigh and back of legs after riding for 2 weeks, I think it's mainly due to not having the seatpost at the correct height or not stretching before and after a ride. I stretched today though. The bike in the above picture is a Carrera Fury 18" frame, but my current bike the Boardman Comp HT is 20" frame. I've got 4 more days off from work as part of my annual leave and back to work next week. I am yet to go and ride the 14 mile trek to Leeds, just really haven't found the time. Got to go to M & S tomorrow to pick up this really beautiful casual shirt I've ordered and might go on bike to town.

I'll see how it goes :)

It's orite, I sorted the camera problem out. Just had to give them a ring and resolve it over the phone. It's a nice camera, not sure how it differs from a mobile phone device but all I know is, the sensor size and type differ in compact cameras as opposed to mobile phones and among that it has tons of other photo adjustment features. which a phone doesn't have.

By the way, it's nearly coming to the end of my annual leave from work and I've only ridden twice this week so far. What I'm proposing to do tomorrow morning if I can, is to get up early and attempt the ride to Leeds on the canal. I've been meaning to do it, but just never made the time this week or on any other weekend the past 3 months. My diets been all messed up and I've felt really uncomfortable and overweight due to some things I've eaten like lasagnya as a 3rd meal and pizza etc

What I might do is ride there and as someone suggested in the thread, ride the way back instead of catching the train. it's 28 miles all together.

I think I should be fine.

I didn't. Was too tired and had other things on with my house project and uncle in hospital etc Plus I woke up late on the weekend around 11 and half the day was gone. I'm quite confident I'll attempt it soon enough. It's nearly new year and I'll be joining the local gym soon.

Dude, just go out and do it. You're making a big deal out of nothing. My 9 year old daughter does a round trip of 26 miles on harder ground than you'll be riding and she doesn't think that much of it. Just go and do it and stop fretting about it. You'll be fine.

its 28 miles on a canal - 2 hours? Even if you drag your stinking carcass out of bed at 11 there is enough hours in the day to smash that out before the bad men come out to play.

Yh, I'm just a bit uncomfortable with the weather at the moment. Takes a while trying to adjust, but it's been like this for a while now. It's because I didn't keep it up from 2 and half years ago that I'm now lacking in energy and motivation, I don't think it has anything to do with diet 100% and I know we've discussed this. I missed my appointment with my GP. It was important but I had forgotten about it as I went somewhere with my dad instead. The appointment would have been useful as I could have got some extra advice about diet and tips on how to improve fitness and food intake etc I noticed on the Bikeradar website they were doing a review on some Hemp herbal drink supplement for riders which I thought might be useful, however I'm not too sure. I could dismiss it.

I'm going to Leeds again this weekend, not sure by train there and back though, need to take my camera in to get it checked over why it's not performing as good as it should. Paid £230 for it man, and I'm suppose to be simple lol I could do the journey by bike, worth a try I guess. Won't be doing much shopping though, bought some new shirts before the sales start as I don't think they will come down in the sale anyway.

Don't let the weather put you off unless it drops below -15 degrees or wind gets above 80mph. A bit of rain never hurt anyone.
Most of the people on this forum are fat, middle aged and unfit but they know 28 miles on a canal is 3 hours ride max including a pub stop.
Maybe santa will bring you a big can of man the funk up tonight.

I have a really bad nerve pulled in my right leg upper, and muscle pain in my just above the waist line. I went for a ride just over a week ago and stretched before but not after the ride. It's affecting me and restricting movement. I tried stretching it to keep the nerve from pulling any further but still hurts.

I know that come spring time and then summer, I will be doing a lot more riding because weather will have improved and even if it rains, it will be humid which is beneficial in some ways. It won't be that cold :)

Someone came to see me this morning and said I've lost a few pounds. I attribute it to drinking 1 Litre of water per day for the last 6 weeks. I think if I had exercised or walked a lot more and often and had eaten less, it would have been more. When I start gym sometime in New Years, I will try walking the treadmill and drinking water and then 10 minutes of cycling at mid level intensity.

I didn't know most of the people on here were overweight. I see Neilus as a person achieving success as a recovering addict and achieving his goals through doing other things aswell as focusing on fitness and recovery through cycling and diet. Very hard thing to do, but easy if you know how or have made the effort and are halfway there.

I've got 4 days off work. Need to get a days riding in there somehow. Maybe if I can prioritize my time and make most of my journeys on the weekend done by cycling instead of by car, might work out for me, and only use my car on long journeys which can only be done by car like motorway use etc. I use to love riding a few years ago, really loved it. Don't know what changed.
