Very glad those wheelsuckers got dropped and can't currently catch Pooley. Hang in there for your silver.

  • Easy to do your mate over when she has been towing you round all morning and you've been in the armchair! Much more impressed with pooley here.

Crazy that pooley towed them all round for an hour then dropped them only for her mate to attack the ver the top of her without even working with her!

Yeah total selfish riding giving that her teammate smoked the legs of everyone else. Especially as this is her last race.

Apparently so. Though the tactics look a little strange.

Every single one of those break riders could have taken advantage of Pooley being tired now. Just cos it is Lizzie there's a sulk for some daft reason.
  • It's selfish bullshit. Fair enough if armitstead is the chosen one for gold, work together as a pair and she rolls over first. Ensures a 1 2 and a silver for your mate in her last race after she did all the work! Instead smash over the top of her leaving her hanging out on her own vulnerable not even to get silver. If I was pooley I would be far from impressed.

Pooley softened them all, and once Lizzie went she was clearly the strongest of the lot.

Lizzie wins. 10min after burners after riding wheels all day. Very strong attack to get the gap a la Vos.

Pooley fights like a champion and holds on for silver. What a little warrior that lady is. Pure class, pure racer. Rode the front for 80% of the last 35km after creating the selection and attacked and smoked legs throughout. Lizzie better comme d her massively.

Last lap only 22.21. Previous lap when Pooley was lighting them up was 22.22.

POOLEY IN TEARS AS SHE CROSSES THE LINE.

    Good camera work today.

Good to see the start of the race and how the break gets formed for a change.

Enjoyed that overall, great ride by Pooley.

Perfect team race. How often do you see that from an English / GB team? Protected rider was the strongest. No ill feeling from the riders who were actually in the race, just on here?

Armitstead full of praise for Pooley, said it was a difficult situation to come past her, Pooley more than happy with the result.

    It's road racing.

Lizzie saying it was great team performance. Lizzie thanking Pooley, Pooley beaming about it and saying she knew she was working for Lizzie and she is obviously very happy "nice to finish on a high" and glad she was able to do her job properly. Pooley in tears, smiling tears.

Some people here reading it completely wrong due to their own emotions and likes/dislikes.

Gill had to force it out of Armitstead. Fact is - Lizzie is a bad loser, however much I like her, and had zero thoughts but for herself.

Lovely interview with Pooley afterwards. LOVE. THAT. LADY.

  • Yes she finish on a high but no thanks to her team mate that's all I'm saying. Side by side to the line would have been much cooler, not to mention more pro.

Gill had to force it out of Armitstead. Really, first thing she said was that its a team sport.

    Yes. Great athlete.

No. Pooley had worked so hard there was no guarantee that she could last the distance, even just sitting on the wheel. She needed to make the gap stick, and she did.

Pooley knew full well what she was doing the work for. She knew with all that softening up she spent her energy doing she was not doing it to win, she held on for Silver though and was obviously really pleased she managed to do this after the tactical job she did. She basically said this in interview.

Yes, it would have been nice to risk another country winning in order to finish together...
  • Absolutely she knew what she was doing but if that had've been Wiggins/Froome attacking G Thomas in the Olympics RR after he had done that. There would be burning effigies and voodoo dolls knocked up on here!

There was next to no chance of that and the two of them two upping it to the line would have been faster anyway. But no matter it is only the CWG and the result was right in the end.

Absolutely right. Unbelievable ride from Emma Pooley. Did nearly all the work and gave Armitstead an armchair ride. How does Armitstead repay her? By attacking her when Pooley had a likely race winning lead. Very poor form from Armitstead, particularly as she had by far the best sprint finish of the front seven so would almost certainly have won comfortably if Pooley had been caught.
