Why has Bertie got a BMW and not a Skoda??

Some teams don't take the Skoda... hence Sky with Jag and BMC have Mercs

Poor guy was consoled by his team mate before he got off.
The image of him and Mick Rogers shaking hands and patting each other on the back, the rest of the team already gone, before Roger's cycled off into the mist and Contador pulled over to the side of the road by himself was desperately sad :(

Morale in that team is going to be thin now. Hope they can salvage something like OPQS.

This TdF route was the best in years and now I am totally deflated.

I don't understand how he got off when he was able to pedal somewhat fluently. I guess however he maybe should not have got back on his bike in the first place. If it takes 4mins to remount you know it is serious.

The cycling World is now deprived of the best stage race rider of his generation in some of the best form of his life.

Could still be an exciting Tour, Kwia giving it to Nibali right now. Porte yet to show a hand. Anyone else in with a shout?

Can't help but feel sorry for Nibali as well, not the way he'd want to win if he does go on to do so.

Yeah, whoever wins is always going to have those smart ars*s going: "well it wasn't a real race anyway because Froome and Contador weren't there."

A win is a win but with 2 weeks still to go it will be a chance for everyone to have a go - Porte now in with a real chance

Nibali had already done the hard work but will now be remembered as the guy who won when the defending and previous champs retired after crashes. Even if someone else does step up and make a fight of it, it'll be the same reasoning.

That's a tragedy. Nibali just has to stay upright for a few weeks now. Going to be a breakaway fest too.

People will knock him but surely Nibali's bike handling has stood him in good stead this tour?

Not the point, he'll be less drained.

Yeah but presumably without a full Tour in his legs he'll be even more competitive, same as Froome.

Chris Horner is rubbing his hands in glee... he's already taken one GT off Nibs...

Exactly, even if the others race their hearts out which they will and of course they will be worthy winners as you can only race what is in front of you and who is against you but it won't stop spiteful people being tw*ts.

Yeah, but now there'll be no "oh so tired from the Tour..." excuses

Assuming his injury isn't that bad and he's back on the bike fairly soon, same with Froome

If your frame snaps underneath you bike handling isn't going to help...

Ha. In this instance I think the magic spanner was justified.

Better to look at it other way round - Nibali "won" because he was a good enough rider not to crash.
