Are these cobbles really all that cobbly?

They don't look that cobbly - you're not going to lose wheels in there...
Trust me they are bad. I rode on some in Belgiums streets and they were a million times worse than any cobble you would get in England.

They only went on for a few hundred metres and still my body was in pain after riding them.

    What is this, circus training?

These dirty cobbles belong under the wheels of specialists not GT specialists. Ie/. any mountain and time trial.

Why not divert Roubaix through a dirt forest for a little bit of spectator pump.
So by that logic, the sprinters shouldn't have to ride the mountain stages? That'll make them happy!

I'm nervous. Hoping for good clean safe muddy carnage, if such a thing is possible.

I'm feeling both gleeful and guilty for feeling so.

Who was it we lose last time they did the cobbles? Frank Schleck, and I'm sure there was another GC rider.

There is a great slo-mo at 2:00 into this video, showing how advantageous bigger tyres at lower pressure are on pavé: http://gcn.eu/1w0gxkx

    What ave speeds are expected?
Worth the aero disadvantage of some light shoulder/collarbone/wrist/knee padding?

So odd that we get this in July yet these days, never get anything like it in April.

So. @NFLming reports that rumors have it that sector 8 and 9 will be cancelled too. If so, only 5 pave sections left. #TDF

    Bunch sprint coming up.
