Anyone here visit Gumball3000 in UK ?

No hate here - just admiration and gratitude for all the good things you are doing for the UK economy. It's just a shame that the rest of us sorry individuals do not have the same drive, determination and acumen that you do.
Once again, thanks.0 -
I dont think there is any real hate here, Gumball is just not very British, as a nation we are bread to snigger at the ostentatious, look down on the vulgar and distrust self promotion. Gumball 3000 may be set up by a Brit but its very American in its concept and the reports of accidents/speeding etc are a lot more prolific than any of it doing good, now that's partly the British press fanning the flames but as a nation its in our genes to poke fun at the whole concept.Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0

You seem to think that someone who disagrees with you is a 'hater'.
Perhaps you should just accept that they dont hate you, or hate what you think you are, perhaps they are just unable to keep quiet when someone is talking bollocks.

As the person most qualified here to explain, can you tell me what this event is, is it people parking and admiring each other's shiny sports cars? And if you have the time, I'm also mystified by open fronted restaurants. I'm guessing you don't get them in the UK, and I can't remember seeing many restaurants in any other country I've been to where anyone would be able to see the car you'd arrived inVTech wrote:I'm sorry about that.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

It works like this:
1 - Join the forum and very quickly establish (and repeatedly re-establish) your 'superior' wealth
2 - Use jealousy and anti-avarice as trump cards in arguments whenever you say something wrong, or stupid.
Frankly, it's a brilliant scheme and I wish I'd thought of it myself.0 -

"if" you are indeed a policeman it would explain a lot.
Stuck in a job where even your partner is willing to shaft you to get ahead (fact as any policeman will confirm) and this would anger you. Likewise people driving round in cars that you have classed very negatively in previous comments.
Gumball3000 has NEVER caused an accident, only people can do that and if someone wants to drive like a loon then they will do so.
Several of my comments have been bought into question here but as always there never seems to be anyone with the balls to actually put them self forward to truly argue against what I have said. Only poke fun which is why i mentioned the childish reply comment.
Does anyone here really argue that in general, someone pulling up to an open fronted restaurant in the term that the staff/management can see what car someone is driving (this is important as if it were a closed view restaurant it wouldn't even be a consideration as they wouldn't know what car your in) in a Bugatti Veyron wouldn't be treated better than someone in a VW Polo ?
Does anyone really argue that in general a fat overweight guy has more chance of grabbing the attention of the fairer sex in a Lamborghini than he would in a Seat Ibiza ?
Does anyone really argue that someone in a Ferrari wouldn't be treated better puling up to a hotel than someone in a Mini ?
Im not saying any of the above is fair but its factual, please someone try and deny it
As for impostors last comment, its nonsense, my initial posts were all about how much cyclists were ripped off with overpriced goods, I never mentioned I was rich, quite the opposite and I was ridiculed by loads for suggesting it. Its quite ironic, no ?Living MY dream.0 -

Like all good schoolboy bullies, you take what suits you and justify it to yourself as being the right thing.
Now back to the topic, can you be the man with the balls to argue my points above ?
I doubt it.Living MY dream.0 -

In what way do they treat you better? Assuming you've booked a table already, how much better does it get? I got some distinctly preferential treatment in a restaurant in Rotorua a few years back because I was jotting down notes throughout the meal, but I think that was for a different reason.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

In my experience, and that of others I would have to call you on that.
It is a fact that in "general" (and I have made that point throughout) you get treated better.
Ill give an example which you can take as a gift if you like.
We go to Vegas every year for a convention, we usually get a Limo from the airport as its only $50 until I was told of a little trick. I now get a Ferrari waiting for me at McCarran airport upon arrival, it costs me around $360 for the day and I am yet to go and not get an upgrade valued far greater than the cost of the hire.
I flew back from Dubai last week and got the car taken for me to the start of the Gumball, I arrived at the hotel and they allowed the car to be parked directly outside the hotel and I was put in a suite. Now this is only a small example but if you are honestly saying that the type of clientele you get bears no reference to how they are treated then your a one-off. People look after those that will bring them the most, thats the way business works and your, like any other for of front facing business is no different.Living MY dream.0 -

Anyone on the front desk stupid enough to upgrade someone simply because they turn up in a hired Ferrari deserves to be sacked. The irony is that you have just proved yourself wrong. Not that you will admit that, obviously.0 -

Can I ask you why ?
As I have said, in business you look after the "high rollers" in the hope of making more money. Vegas being the world leader in this field would of course look after them, arguing with me on that matter is both idiotic and futile. The only people who will agree with you are those that will accept the stupid comment over agreeing with me and who would want them in their side ?Living MY dream.0 -

Maybe the VW Polo driver has to set their own table, then clear up after themselves! And even if this was the case who would want to go to a restaurant where the level of service was determined by what kind of vehicle you arrived in? I'd imagine a place like that would be very confused if the Gumball all pulled in for lunch, just who do they give the best table to?0 -
what he said. You may not be able to put a price on sycophancy (I dont think that word means what you think it does), but you can certainly spot it and guests loathe it.
Hospitality and warmth is crucial, and we wouldn't upgrade someone if they rocked up in a Ferrari (we did have the German Mercedes-Benz owners club here, so I guess someone with a big AMC Merc did get an upgrade!). Im not going to go into my upgrade policy here but if a receptionist of mine treated someone differently because of the car they were driving Id be pretty displeased.Fitter....healthier....more productive.....0 -

The notion that someone is a 'high roller' simply because they turn up in a hired supercar is utterly absurd and fundamentally flawed - although it doesn't suprise me that you can't see that.
I wouldn't want anyone on the front desk that couldn't see beyond such a ridiculous facade.0 -
Sycophancy:
A person who acts obsequiously towards someone important in order to gain advantage.
I was perhaps being less than obvious, playing with the idea of who is exactly the biggest sycophant, is the hotel receptionist the important person in this scenario and the Ferrari driver the sycophant.my isetta is a 300cc bike0 -

I have never stated that I like this approach, I have only stated that it exists.
I have never condoned this action nor have I said someone deserves a better service based on perceived wealth. Why anyone is commenting as if that were the case is yet further proof of anterior motives within replies to this thread.
The problem is, you guys are arguing with me, even the boutique hotel owner yet you all know that what I am saying is right. Why argue the toss ?
I once turned up at a Ferrari dealership in shorts and a tshirt and wasn't given the time of day. The salesman left me for some guy in a suit but the fact was, I wanted a new Ferrari, I had the cash and within a week of that visit I purchased one. It was my first Ferrari at the age of 32, I bought it elsewhere.
why some have chosen to turn this into an argument is beyond me, in life it is sad but perceived wealth creates different reactions from people, just like I am confident I will get treated better at a restaurant or casino, or hotel, I realise I will be ridiculed here.
But thats life.Living MY dream.0 -

Totally agree, with 4kicks, been upgraded a number of times and its because i am polite and courteous and has nothing to do with the car i drive.
Case in point, recent stay at the Pennyhill, checked in at the same time as a couple that had valet parking and drove a new Bentley. The couple in the Bentley were not impolite but treated checking in as a transaction and were a little frosty to the staff, we were very polite and spoke to the staff as equals........who do you think got the upgrade.Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0 -

So you do it - but you don't condone it. I can only deduce that someone is obviously forcing you do do it. It must be awful for you, to have to do things which you personally don't condone....0 -

That's a point of customer service in that one place - I was speaking to a Rolls Royce dealer once ("we don't sell cars, we supply them. You know you want one before you come in") who told me that he didn't mind chatting with hoi polloi like me because "we stand to lose a lot more by assuming you'll never be able to afford one than we could gain by thinking that one day you could". Very nice chap, I've never bought a Rolls Royce off anyone else sinceSpecialized Roubaix Elite 2015
