Either in Edinburgh, Manchester or London.

All three had huge amounts of cyclists visiting the parade and wondered if anyone here attended ?

Maybe someone on this ?

Please excuse my ignorance. Would you be so kind as to enlighten me as to what an 'IG' is?

I guess to some it would be a pointless thing to do but to others it isn't. That's the beauty of life. Different strokes for different folks.
To me it's an awesome way to spend a week away from reality every year. To others it's a total waste of time and money.

IG is Instagram as mentioned, if you search #gumball3000 you can make your own mind up as to which side of the fence your on.

With 35,000 people attending the Scottish event it is probably the biggest attraction Scotland will get this year, almost certainly more people than will vote "YES" cometh the day !

    Eh? What?

There's a little event called the Commonwealth Games in Scotland this year - I think it'll be rather better attended than the car show. Though you're probably right on the vote.

My comment was "tongue in cheek" due to the rather daft post made by colinthecop.

If colin is actually a cop, shame on him because it would show a wanten lust to attack drivers without cause.
The Police in London were awesome, the wife took some great shots of them eating donuts at the parade :)

The Gumball isn't about goons driving like crazy, but people who have a passion for some of the best vehicles ever made. We have a word for it within the trade.
    Its called fun.

I could post some youtube links of shockingly bad driving during previous events, or news links of drivers getting arrested due to their disregard for that countries driving laws.... But in all honesty I can't be arsed.

I'll just put it down to my own wanten(sic) lust to attack drivers without cause....

The problem with this type of comment, is that if we all took this approach, all muslims would be terrorists, all white people would be racists, all black people would be cannibals.

So far I'm on over 1200 miles and not a ticket in sight, if anything most of the time I've been stretched at 50mph !
Yes, some drive crazy, just like so cyclists are stupid on the roads but tarring everyone with the same brush is the downfall of society and again, if you are within the "force" then with this attitude the average man is doomed.

1200 miles...? Wow, you must be having an amazing time and a great experience. If I was there i'm pretty sure i'd be surfing BikeRadar too. :?

And don't worry, things were doomed long before I got involved. 8)

I dont have a problem with the evnt as such but hate it being marketed as a charity event when many of the teams raise a big fat zilch.

to be fair that is probably the same for a lot of London Marathon runners. Can't say I heard much about the Gumball rally in Edinburgh, but then I am not into 4 wheels much.

I don't know about that. The people I know that have participated in the London Marathon have raised thousands of pounds for charity, each.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Spelling was spot-on my good man 8)

I would actually change the name given the option as it no longer has a meaning to me.
Also, on the side of charitable activity, hundreds of thousands has been raised through Gumball3000, obviously not in the region of the marathons but the coverage isn't equal either to be fair.
Also, in answer to colinthecops comment on being on bikerader during a rally, I just can't keep away, I gave myself 10 minutes a day to be on here and kept to my word. I didn't want anyone missing me.

Assuming there was 35,000 people there watching the cars, or did they just assume there would be 35,000 in Edinburgh shopping that day as they drove through the city.

I've had a look at the pics and I have my doubts, I've seen bigger crowds outside a kebab shop at 3am....

    2014-06-08-Gumball3000-Rally-Mound-Up.jpg

Although I suppose saying 362 people turned up to look at some nice cars doesn't quite fan the egos in the same way.

I could go off on one but whats the point ? life brings haters and we all have to deal with that.
The picture above is of the final car parking zone which is not the route of entry which houses the main crowds.
I also earlier stated that my comment about being the biggest crowd in scotland was tongue in cheek although that was forgotten so some of you above could comment negatively.

I have no interest wether those of you whom are 2 wheel only fans like the Gumball or not, that isn't the issue.
The point is, that I DO, and for that reason it suits me.

bompington is actually right, although no need to try and be rude about it but in general he is right. It is egotistic, many of my fellow gumballers would use a week away from reality in a self absorbed way due to the fact that almost all of us run large businesses where countless people are employed and the daily routine of making businesses successful takes its tole so escapism is a method of relaxation. the fact we have decent cars is a product of the hard work AND risk taking needed to keep our beloved countries turning.

I do however find the fact some of you bringing charity into the question is of poor taste. The fact is, the best charity marketing strategy is to play at peoples weak spots. Bob Geldoff was the master in the 80's with Live Aid and this has been mimicked globally by countless people.
You can't deny the fact that Gumball raising millions for charity (both directly through the gumball foundation) or privately by various teams as well as the many charity auctions along the routes every year is a bad thing. The only thing that should matter is the end result ?
If anyone wished to argue that point feel free.

I brought up the charity point, based on some of the info on the Gumball website. It is marked as a charity event but there are teams listed that have zilch marked against their names.

Last year the creator had to cajole teams into getting sponsorship:
    http://gumball3000.net/come-on-gumballers-lets-raise-some-money-for-charity-theres-still-52-cars-on-the-entrygrid-that-havent-raised-or-donated-anything-if-you-all/

Thats not the official site, its www.gumball3000.com but I do agree, not all donate but this is good because if anything it shows true life, some people give, others don't.

We can't force people to give but this year the same could be said for David Hasselhoff who on the front of it didn't donate but actually gave away some mega items to raffle which in turn raised over $100,000 so the true story isn't always what it seems.

Anyway, as long as people are happy with their actions it doesn't matter.

The Hoff was there. Surely people would donate to stop him singing, missed a great fundraising opportunity there.
