Last time I descended the Stelvio it was 0 at the top and I only had normal mitts on. Couldn't feel the brakes after about the sixth bend; a very unsettling experience indeed until I got down to the valley floor and warmth

I have two numb fingers in one hand anyway. Descending and breaking is always a little scary because of it.

Uran thinks it's neutralised, Naro doesn't.

Good luck sorting that one out, organisers...

This is the side I'll be going up in a fortnight.

    Weather permitting

    On the Brompton

    Are you mad?

I'll tell you afterwards. The Semnoz wasn't so bad. But a lot lower....

Thing is with the neutralisation only if it's snowing is that the snow would only last part of the way down. After this it would be rain. I'm sure all riders are now clear of the snowline.

Didn't the Iseran cheat by building an extra road? I may have dreamed that though.

Isn't that the Bonette, they built a little loop around the top to get it to be the highest road in the Alps, IIRC.

    FUN FACTS CONTD...

The highest road in Europe is the 2830 m Ötztal Glacier Road in Autria, it is a dead end. The Cime de la Bonette at 2802 m is a loop road and not the highest anyway.

    Pico de Valeta?
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Looks like at least Quintana, Majka, Aru all ahead of Uran's group.

I thought I saw Cataldo get caught and passed when I last looked but now he seems to be out on his own again. Is there another Sky rider off the front somewhere?

    They're saying no neutralisation now?

Uran will be delighted, I'm sure.

I enjoyed that (the descent). Rarely, it seems to me, do you get such good coverage of a descent, where you see most every corner and are able to watch riders negotiate them.

And I’ve climbed the Stelvio 3 times from the side they descended and feel I know and recognised every bend.

Dupont seemed to take the corners better than Cataldo, even though Cataldo opened the gap slightly (from 38 to 46 secs).

Deignan and Henao are both there somewhere. Deignan, I think, on Uran's wheel.

If Nairo wins the Giro on this stage, Pat leF will be at CAS before the bubbly has gone flat.

Almost all GTs would be improved with smaller mountains and shorter TTs.

2530 m Pico de Veleta a mere 11th highest, two places behind the Gavia in 9th place.

To be fair if you've got a gummy ear, descending is not going to be easy or fun.

He was dangling off the Majka, Aru group a minute ago. Still ahead of Uran's group.

I hear Quintana plus team mate Izgirre, Rolland and Hesjedal about 1 min ahead of Uran.

What we need are more races in warm and sunny countries....

.... I rode up Holme Moss and Woodhead pass yesterday in blazing sunshine, should have a GT here, oh wait....

(though both are mere pimples compared with this!!)
