Yep - Roche may not be a proper GC guy, but he puts himself around a fair bit.

Descent to be neutralised (somehow) apparently.

It has to be time that the UCI insists that teams either have wet weather gear in team colours (with numbers attached) or they have to wear something transparent over their normal kit. It's a farce when you can't even identify the team of some riders in a group shot.

They do, it's against the rules to have your number covered but the teams don't care

Maybe just forget the Gavia and Stelvio from now on.

Hope its not behind a car: they often turn out more dangerous than a non-neutralised descent.

Just said on Eurosport it will be behind a motorbike at a "safe speed".

Confirmation coming over race radio, race will be neutralised on the descent of the Stelvio.

    Epic looking weather.

Descents weren't neutralised in Kelly's day, he would have been there in shorts with a short sleeve jersey and no gloves "In the earlier days" :-)

Not sure how this works in practice...they take the times at the summit, tell them to cruise down and then restart them at the base with their respective gaps?

But if they go so slow as to bunch up on the descent then surely that is more dangerous?

Any particular reason to neutralise the descent? The roads are wet but just fine - how is that different from any other descent in rainy weather?

    Cataldo wanting the Cima Coppi.

I recall INRNG saying that it wasn't a separate prize this year... ?

Presumably if the descent is neutralised then gaps and the top are reinstated at the bottom? If so it's not a bad call. That said, are these conditions really any worse than in many a past year? It may be worse at the top but at the moment the roads just look wet as they often do in Giro and even Tour mountain stages. I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about.

riders will be getting colder quicker than a descent in warm but wet weather. Can make it more difficult to control the bike.

That said, riding behind a motorbike might mean they need to touch brakes more often which won't be particularly good.

There might be no actual prize, but it is a prize/honour.

To be honest it might be to do with the riders freezing - its a long descent. Also, it is supposed to be a really tough one even in the dry.

Stelvio descent neutralised due to snow. But Cataldo has every reason to carry on as the Cima Coppi prize awaits at the top of the climb

The prize is extra mountain points apparently.

If that's the case they should stop wasting time and energy on having this climb in the race.

Perfect roads last year as well and they - for whatever reason - decided to neutralise that one also..

The Stelvio is the 4th highest road, second highest pass in Europe.

    FUN FACTS!
