Great build as always Rick. When you want to move this one on send me a PM, it will go well with your SL4 :D
  • Which XTR M9000 cage do you need for 1x11 setup? SGS or GS?

GS is fine on a hardtail, if you've got a frame with a lot of chain growth then you may need SGS.

Not much has changed on the Nomad since I got the M70 Thirtys. Its riding sweet and the 36 now feels spot on. The only thing I need to do if I go out on it next week is fit the slop wheels onto it, the Maxxis Shorty's on them are far better suited to the current off piste slop conditions on my local lap. I have some new decals for the wheels but have not been bothered to fit them yet.

Oh I would also recommend a Dfender to anyone, its a superb piece of kit and better than any other mudguard I have ever used. Yes its looks very marmite but it just functions so well!

    Those Enve wheels look huge.

What sort of set up have you ended up with on your 36? I'm settled on 2 blue spaces and around 20% sag.

I can't wait for it to dry out now to really put the Nomad through it paces.

I'm running 2 blue spacers in this one, not sure one sag, I just see how much travel I am using and tweek the air pressure off that. I might go to a orange and a blue. This one feels far better than the one on the Solo did. I have had the one on the Solo pushed now and it's a lot better. That one has one orange and one blue in it.

That sucks. Assuming it was one of your older ones?

Guess this may push you into some Derbys now

Nope a M70 Thirty. Just going to smash other wheels around here from now on.

Yep not good but unlucky more than anything, rock flicked up and smacked the rim putting a hole in it. I'm just going to smash my light bike wheels down rocky trails now I think :D

Yes I emailed TF about it earlier lol. Are you thinking of one?

Tempted but a friend is also sorting a cracking deal on a Domane 4.5 for similar money. Would be pretty awesome to have a coil on there and weigh in at 29lbs and would be a good performance gain. Performance gain in terms of fitness gain from a road bike would also be worth while.

It does look great on the Nomad though.

Think I have going to have one, it's a lot of coin though but I think a coil is where it's at. I am tempted to wait until Sea Otter to see what Fox roll out.

I'm lucky in I have great road bikes already! I have a S-works Venge Cavendish edition with Di-2 and Zipps and now a Colnago C-60 Italia with full Campagnolo Super Revprd EPS! Just need the sun to come out and I can get the miles in.

It's rumoured they will will release the next generation of Shocks plus will be good to see how the Push is performing a few months down the road.

I was considering building up my Roberts frame for the road or getting some road wheels built up for the mtbs but figured for the cost I could get a road bike for not much more. Been meaning to do it sooner to be honest when a friend riding GOGLE last year.

I do prefer a coil on my bike. Had a pushed van rc originally and it was superb. The push coil is just far too expensive for me at the moment sadly as I would gladly put up with the extra weight if it turns out to be a great shock with no reliability issues. I'd not want to get one of the first ones though.

Think it has to be pretty reliable, Push have put a lot on the line bringing it out and I don't see them bringing something untested to the market. Also with a shock like this there really is not a terrible lot to go wrong.

It is also fully customised so a lot of the guess work in deciding which spring to use is looked after already so it should work well out of the box. I would also assume they have data for many bike models to take into account different leverage ratios. They only thing would can't cater for is dramatic changes in rider weight but that is a little more unusual for a more seasoned rider who would be the target audience.

If you want a really good coil TF Tuned can turn the Van RC in to something special. I know its not particularly bling but it has enormous tuning potential, I know someone who has one that feels better than my Cane Creek Double Barrel.
Its been a long time since Fox had a competative coil shock, the DHX 5.0 just doesnt do it anymore.

From what I can unsederstand Push will only sell them for certain bikes that they have tried and tested them on and been pleased with the results of. TF can order me one and get it within a week from the USA.

I found out why the original Fox 36 felt harsh:

Mine are certainly a later set judging by how plush they feel. I did't initially think there was much in it compared to the Pike but riding back on a set has shown the 36 to be a fair bit better.

Yep. The reviews of it seem good and I was worried with only 150 been made in the initial run I might miss the boat! Also any future changes or upgrades will be aimed at been backwards compatible from what I have seen written on the net by Darren. It should be leaving Colorado tonight too all been well :D

    Nice!

I decided to hold fire for now as I'm happy enough with how the Debonair is performing for me so there is really nothing pushing me towards getting rid of it. Getting the Bird Aeris instead was the other factor.

Got pair of glass wheels landing back with me tomorrow

I had a quick spin on a large Nomad earlier and I think i could get on with one of them quite happily  Maybe I was a large after all LOL Will see if I can have a proper go on it next week.

I probably could as well given that the Aeris on order will be longer than my Nomad. But I like that I can ride the medium like a trail bike and play around with it and then just eat up nasty trails where as I feel a large would be more like a shuttle bike.
