Unfortunate for NFTO to lose two big names in their first season (D Downing & Blythe) but I'd assume they knew it wouldn't be long before a WT team picked him back up.

With Farrar, Goss, Bos, Ciolek and EBH all on the same team, it's going to be very tough for other teams to finish between 5th and 10th in any sprint.

Is this an exercise in buying 'cheap' WT points?

Any rumours of any British young guns moving on to bigger things? I'm thinking Tao, Scott Davies and Alex Peters. The latter has impressed me whenever I've watched him - he somehow finishes quite high up in sprints and looks a very capable climber. Worth a pro Conti ride at least surely?

Alternatively, Ciolek vanishes with 40km to go, Goss nowhere to be seen in the last 5km, EBH loses position in the final 2km and Farrar crashes on the last corner.

Serge Pauwels possibly to MTN as well.

Not really the place but doesn't deserve it's own thread

Specialized cycles brand will continue its partnership with Saxo-Tinkoff team beyond the 2014 season The Russian team announced this information on its website on Tuesday. The two sides have extended their collaboration, which began early in the 2009 season for "indefinite period."
  • I think uncle Oleg was hoping Cannondale would hand over their entire pro team budget to have AC and Sagan representing their brand but they found a cheaper and likely more sensible way to keep the brand in the top level.

Nordhaug, Roche and Konig off to Sky apparently

I see a lot of amateur pundits moaning about Konig going to Sky because he won't get chances for himself. They've clearly not been paying attention.

Sky have been sniffing around up and coming contenders for a while - Aru, Barguil, Pinot - because they need a GT leader other than Froome and they don't trust Porte's reliability.

Konig will be leader or co-leader at the Giro. And he'll have strong support.

(And Roche and Nordhaug will bolster a lousy Ardennes squad)

Great to see Nico attacking and trying to pull something off in the ToB. Hope he gets the support and wins his aggressive riding warrants when he's at Sky.

Aru is has huge potential given his climbing efforts in the Giro and now the Vuelta. He must be on the big teams' radar.

If only they'd had a proven GT contender they could have used as their number 2

On paper they should have a reasonable Ardennes squad with Henao (Sergio), Dombro, Boswell, Edmondson, Froome, Porte and possibly Kennaugh (plus Cataldo and Deignan maybe). Their problem seems to be they keep breaking most of these riders.

I'm a big fan of Nordhaug though and hope he gets chances in that role again rather than becoming mountain train fodder.

Also, Konig is going to be number 2 at best in virtually any of the World Tour teams at present so it's not a bad move for him. I've been trying to think where he could be the main man and Katusha is the only one I could think of or possibly Lotto but I think it's probably better to be number two with stronger support.
