When you say "Blade". Does it scrape rather than cut?

    yup, tis a scraper.

    and they are sold singly.

Is it the flat (slightly out of focus) chissely end or the curved "Looks a bit like a finger lever thing" end that does the scrapping?

    You use both ends.

each end has it's own use.

    it's not used on leather.

    The flat is the scraper.

Gosh, you have missed this haven't you?

No, not culinary. It's generally described as a 'tool'.

    All no.

    very far from engineering.

    used predominately outside.

BTW, This is not the only 'model', there is a preference for type amongst the users.

The rounded end reminds me a bit of my chain wear checker. Is it anything to do with sharpening chainsaws?

It's more a manipulator than a lot of the guesses so far.

    No.

A bit of a clue about the use.

Some people just use one, and either pass it to their other hand or cross over their 'work'. I find this clumsy and disturbing.
So, although they are sold singly as stated, I prefer to have two and use one in each hand.

Something for sculpting soft materials? Or pointing brickwork?

It doesn't look very hand-friendly on its own, so is there a handle that fastens to the hole?
  • capt_slog

not baskets, not sculpting, and it's used just as it is. I think some people like to put a string through the hole so they can loop it to their wrists and not have to put it down.

I've never wanted it dangling about, it would cause disturbance.

    No.

You're concentrating on the scraper too much, that's only part of it.
