You're the one who called him a nonce. However, I can say, without legal threats, that David Walsh gave a character witness to an Irish court in defence of a convicted nonce at the same time he was condemning Chris Froome for using asthma meds.rick_chasey said:From my mod days there was some pretty punch legal action.

Say what you like about Kirby, but he seems like a real good person.Twitter: @RichN950 -

I don't remember, no.
I can't remember what the outcome was - whether he faced any charges - but the group posted the transcript of the alleged chat on their web page.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]1 -

I see. So we don't know if the sh*t stuck because it was sh*t or because it was actual sh*t.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

Kirby is a real person whereas Hatch is an AI bot.

Well, they say AI is the future.
Perhaps he need's a scoosh of WD40 before start up and a 115v continental adapter plug.

Erm, pernickity point for Mr Pernickity. There is an audio clip of Hatch used in the Arrivée episode of The Cycling Podcast which has him saying "first time in nearly 4 decades..."pinno said:

No, 34 years. That's 6 years short of 4 decades.1 -

Maybe it's the same AI bot that picks Orla's outfit everyday in the GT's from a colour chart linked to a 3d printer.seanoconn - gruagach craic!1

Orla is brilliant.rick_chasey said:Her outfits are great, will not accept any other views, as are Adam's
Her outfits... not sure. Watch when she's wearing a short skirt she will be quite self conscious and cross her legs all the time. That cannot be comfortable for her.
I think it must be 10x harder for a female in the spotlight like that on a daily basis. She cannot wear the same outfit twice without probably being on the end of criticism (as most women can't). She has to look good.
Blokes can chuck on a pair of jeans and whatever on top but women can't.
Well, actually Orla could. She could wear a bin liner and look good but you know what i'm saying.
Adam is one of those guys who can wear what he likes. Put Dan Lloyd in a Hawaiian shirt and he'd look like a gammon in the sun.seanoconn - gruagach craic!1 -
I'm still amazed that only Mark Cavendish has kicked off about "internet forum people". For anyone working in the cycling media, especially women, it's relentless.0

If you look at her social media it's pretty obvious she wears what she wants and she's pretty vocal about not giving a toss what anyone thinks of her choices. I can't imagine her putting up with wearing anything just because she is trying to conform or it is what someone has says she needs to be wearing. There are plenty of tvvats who make comments about what she wears and she is not scared to, rightly, tell them where to go.pinno said:

100% @Pross , she is fully in charge of what she wears, and gives zero effs as to what anyone thinks or says, though the comments posted about her from both male and females are pretty shocking to me, but I guess that's how things are these days.
With regards to Hatch / Kirby.
I much prefer Hatch (and his pronunciations), his commentary and knowledge about the sport and it's history.
I find him generally pretty accurate, though I have heard him flag up when he makes a mistake, though I'm not saying he does that every single time.
I like the way he repeats some stuff for significant events, like for example when a main GC contender goes pop on a climb, but that might be because I find myself doing the same thing
He comes across to me as a natural fan of the sport, and he seems to gel well with pretty much everyone I have heard him commentate with - Blythe being one of the highlights, though he is an absolute star with regards to enthusiasm paired with my type of humour.
Clearly we all like different things in a commentator, so I can see why they are on a hiding to nothing really - kirby has a pretty big following I think, so they are bound to carry on employing him.
The only time I have not liked hatch, I forget the specific event, but it was either mountain biking, or CX, but he clearly didn't really get it, and it was all a bit flat - however I would rather that than feigned enthusiasm which I can see through pretty easily.
kirby for me repeats himself a lot year to year, I'm talking about:
- roundabouts
- wells that had oil in them
- Olive oil
- tooting on bidons
- Terrible punning on riders names
And that's without going on about riders who might not even be in the race, or simply mis-identifying a rider completely.
I never heard of the chap you are discussing above, so have nothing to compare against, but if he's been and gone, then it's a moot point I guess.
I was starting to think last year that Jez Hunt (I think that is his name) had potential, but I heard him on a week long stage race earlier this year, and he had not improved imho, but gone the other way, his delivery style was starting to remind me of kirby alas.
Also not a fan of (I think his name is) Anthony McCrossan - both his tone of voice (Which he can't help, and for the record I hate the sound of my own voice as well) and his commentary style, but he doesn't seem to be on that much anymore.
In summary, when I hear kirby commentating on a live race my heart sinks, and my enjoyment I know will be throttled, but when I hear hatch with another sidekick, I know I'm going to likely enjoy what they have to say and be mostly well informed throughout.
I really struggle to fathom how anyone could prefer kirby to hatch - but that there is why we are all so different in a nutshell :-)Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Hatch is like a cheese grater being pulled through my head and Kirby is like a luke warm cup of tea.
I prefer the Tea.
Still cannot fathom the antipathy towards Orla (or any female presenter) and that's what we should be talking about.

The cr@p she gets online is ridiculous but she deals with it very well. The one that seems to really annoy her is criticism of her as a parent when she's away for an extended period covering races. By contrast I didn't hear anyone criticising McEwen or Blythe for being away from their kids. There is still a surprisingly large element of men who can't get their heads around a woman presenting sport on TV and women who either seem to want to live in a 1950s universe where the little woman stays at home or are jealous. Then there's all the vomit inducing middle-aged men who seem to think if they post comments about how good she looks they might get lucky!pinno said:

I'm not an avid Twitter user, but don't most famous people get comments made about them on Twitter? The thing I don't understand is why famous people bother to read comments about themselves.Pross said:

I don’t use Twitter so only see what’s on Instagram which I always think of being the kindest of social media apps. I don’t think I’d use any of them if I was in the public eye but I guess they go with the turf a bit. If you are using them it must be impossible to not see any comments. I suppose you could turn off comments though. She doesn’t respond that often but when she does it is usually done politely but firmly.TheBigBean said:

Carlton's new favourite annoyance is adding "let" to the end of a noun describing the perceived challenge ahead. In the last few weeks I've heard peaklet, ramplet and humplet1

Hatch has taken on board Pinno's criticism of him saying everything twice and has addressed it by doing it three times instead.2
