Only been commuting for 12 months (all through winter and all weather) and sorry for the silly question. Is a nodder just another person on a bike who nods to say hi?

Also what is a chopper, apart from a ballripping bike off of the 70’s..

Any other terms I should be aware of? Is there a glossary anywhere on the forum?

Nodders just bimble along, seemingly oblivious. Usually slow, given to random changes in direction. Some nod as they pedal, some don't. Usually in civilian clothes. A benign presence on the road, although in swarms, they can hold up ones journey.

Choppers are less benign. Chopperish behaviour includes but is not limited to, riding too fast for the conditions, sitting too close to your wheel, red light jumping , overtaking on the inside, no shoulder checking, squeezing into tiny gaps between heavy vehicles, generally filtering dangerously.
Just noticed this bit. I didn't realise that cyclists were a uniformed organisation! Isn't a lycra sausage skin suit just an different form of "civilian clothes"?

I find a nodder/chopper combination the most dangerous. They are nodders but aspire to ride like choppers. The faster they ride, the more effort they are putting in, the more their head nods.

A nodder/chopper (nopper/chodder?) passed me a month or so ago and at first I had trouble chasing him down because I literally laughed out loud as his head was nodding up and down at the same rate as his knees (left knee down, nod, right knee down, nod, left knee down nod etc.)

I thought that this morning, unfortunately I was in the car as I'm still sickly, but there were 8 people cycling across Kingston Bridge as I crossed just after 7am. Only seen 1 or 2 most days recently.

There is no Tit Tuesday. It's always Tit Monday irrespective of the day. I'll be explaining this every Spring until the day I die

I originally posted about Tit Monday last July! Plenty warm enough then!

Though I spotted a girl riding along CS7 in the shortest of short shorts about 2 weeks ago.

It's like leave voters and racists really - not all Choppers are Allez-men, but all Allez-men are Choppers*

  • Allez-men typically also have hockey socks, peaked helmet, baggies and a uni sports top, or is that Clapham Man?

Yes, to this whole thread though, loads coming off Putney Bridge this morning, plus a guy sat (textbook Clapham man) was asking me yesterday about what he needed to start cycling in.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Left the office at about 5 today and saw a lot of bright yellow BITB jackets on the way home. If noddergeddon isn't upon us then the early daffodils of nodderspring are here.

I think Clapham Man morphs into Normal Man once they've had kids, been run over and moved out to Raynes Park. It's like a post-teenager phase of gawkiness that needs to be knocked out of them. Allez-men are a lost cause - commuting by bike is a phase

Saw a classic Clapham Man move on London Bridge last night - he was having a massive moving row with a taxi driver then at the red lights slunk away to avoid a real confrontation. He clearly thought that's how proper commuters behave - he was very proud of his shoutiness. A few of us apologised to the taxi driver (who seemed to be innocent of any perceived misdemeanor)

I leave home at 04:30 when on 'days'. All I tend to see is foxes, Badgers, and the occasional owl, none of which nods or wobbles, wears hockey socks, or Rugby shirts, or indeed, ride an Allez, or any other bike.
