Bank holiday weekends are always good for the re appearance of Allez man. The weather forecast isn’t great in my neck of the woods, so that may postpone it slightly, I’m leading a BC Guided Ride up into the Surrey Hills on Sunday, it should be a good nodder barometer.0

the rain's definitely keeping them at bay today, didn't see anyone on 2 wheels, other than myself today0

My normal commute I see very few others bar Bushy Park, the rest quite often no other bike, do see E bikes quite regularly, I’m assuming this will not change as it was nice India summer when I started at the new place.
Yesterday I looped between hospitals still not many bikes, but bikes tend to favour certain roads.
I mildly find it assuming that at the same time as Tit Monday there will also be people with winter layers on!0 -
It does take me a little while to take the plunge on early morning commutes to ditch a layer or two. I'm getting excited about spring/summer now. Winter seemed to last forever2015 Cervelo S3

We had a once every 8 years, type of winter this year, it’s always a chew when we get a harsh ( for the U.K. ) winter, as we aren’t prepared for it ( given that they are quite rare ) and the merde always hits the fan, when we get a winter like this last one.0 -
This can be renamed Zwiftgeddon

Bwaahhha, that sounds so right..
Last night I left at about my normal time, normal route, counted 24 cyclists when the max I normally see is 2.
And they weren't obviously riding in a group...Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

I reckon today is the start of it. The ‘hibernators’ and ‘masturbotors’ are our in force, heads bobbing in perfect harmony with their pedal strokes, and hockey socks galore. But the weather is nice, which is what brings ‘em out, so it’s not all bad. It’s like Groundhog Day, and Punxsutawney Phil. If the nodders see a shadow, the weather will be gash for the rest of the year.0

Anyhow, good to see that commuting bike snobbery is still alive and kicking..."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
First Nodders spotted in Warwickshire today, and it was a real prize nodder, must have been a good 6" amplitude on the heads sign wave combined with the 'mash the highest gear I have' 20rpm cadance, possibly accentuated by the saddle being a good 6" too low. I feel sorry for dem dere knees!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

saw a couple on the way home, the warmer weather has clearly encouraged them out of their hibernation.
but its not commuting snobbery, even if I think riding a bike in denim jeans is a bit of a fashion faux pas, Im actually more concerned for their safety as they seen to have got no clucking road sense at all.
one of them I saw was busy waving cars past when he thought the road was clear enough, it was a fairly narrow road with not great sightlines for overtaking so the cars were holding back because they couldnt always be sure it was safe for them to overtake, the problem was he kept directing them past when the road wasnt clear and cars were overtaking and having to bail out at the least minute to avoid a collision.
and you just sit there and think any minute now this guy is either going to cause an accident, or be involved in one0 -
I honestly don't know how people manage to ride the superhighways/embankment at rush hour as there's some desperately stupid riding going on there at peak times. Whether it's the "must get in front" or swerving off their line or cutting in, it's a miracle there aren't more pile ups. I genuinely was more comfortable riding in traffic yesterday than on the embankment/blackfriars as at least there was a bit more awareness of others going on. A mistake I will endeavour to avoid repeating !0

I’m a very occasional rush hour Embankment user, as in few times a year, not particularly troubling, just give folks space, if that means easing off, so be it. Even quiet places can have its moments yesterday had someone banked over wrong side at speed on a blind bend, luckily I was alert enough to manoeuvre, but could easily been head on, bike to bike. I see maybe a bike there a few times a month!0 -
Crossing the A30 today was a whole 4 other cyclist and they had decent bikes! I nearly fell off in shock!
They all but one turned off my route quickly, other roadie was I'd say perhaps a bit green? and was finding the less smooth cycle path, plus clipping in, a bit awkward, so I overtook at the M4 as he was just a bit slower than my normal pace.0 -

Sometimes I wonder if regular traffic wouldn't be more predictable than other cyclists, particularly those on hire bikes, for whom multi-tasking with a mobile appears to be compulsory.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
I was thinking about calling Chris Packham this morning, as I think this may be the earliest ever noddergeddon we've seen. It's not even Spring yet, and all the bike boxes at the lights were full and there were rugby socks and high viz everywhere!1938 Hobbs Tandem

Classic case this morning, flouro yellow jacket, gym shorts and grey sports socks with black trainers, on a Viking road bike. Shoaling and then setting off early at each set of lights from Trinity St to Webber St where I turned off. Keeping with the nature programme theme, I could hear the hushed tones of David Attenborough in my mind's ear as he rolled into view..."The chopper, in his early spring plumage, begins his annual migration across the windswept tundra of South London..."0

From Bike Snob NYC originally I believe...
"As I've explained before, no rider, no matter how slow or diminutive, will ever come to a stop behind another rider at a red light. Instead, it is standard practice to pass that rider and stop in front of him, even if this involves doing so in the middle of the crosswalk or in the actual intersection, well ahead of the traffic signal. "Shoaling" is an incredibly rude practice, and it's tantamount to cutting in front of someone at an ATM, supermarket checkout, or urinal line.
If you're waiting, someone will pull up ahead of you. If a third person comes, they'll roll ahead and stop in front of the second person. On a busy day, this accumulation results in sort of a shoal of cyclists which juts out into the middle of the street like a sandbar of idiocy. "

I arrive first at a set of traffic lights. Those people I have overtaken on the way there who then push past me and sit ahead of the stop line are shoalers. I have to overtake them again before the next set of lights. They normally wobble away at a glacial pace too. This is a pain in the @rse, and inconsiderate, even if not dangerous.0
