Has noddergeddon started this year?

Thought it wasn't actually too bad out there - but then I tend to be on the road before 6.30am on the way in & correspondingly early on the way back. The other night though I had a late meeting & wasn't on the way back down CS7 until after 5.30pm. Bloody hell! About 6 times more bikes than I'm used to encountering/dealing with, piloted it seems largely by the slow (no problem with that) and/or blitheringly stupid. The shoaling at traffic lights was quite something to behold - but why the hell do so many of them see the need to force their way to the front when all they do is hold everyone up and get overtaken (again) anyway. Lots of pavement riding, RLJing, lack of shoulder checking, dodgy filtering and erratic riding on view. I stayed pretty zen, just amazed at the overall spectacle really - you can see why some drivers get so worked up. Anyway, having overtaken the same RLJing fool for a fifth time I dropped a cheeky "if you're in such a rush, just train harder and ride faster rather than risking running the red" on him and tore off towards Morden like a scalded whippet. Fortunately the next light was green so dropped him for good and avoided the usual mouthful of abuse from the RLJer scorned.
Anyway, back to normal yesterday. Bliss (well as close as you can get to it on CS7).CS7

I just saw a chopper on a Cervelo S5 - all the usual attributes; no shoulderchecks, squeezed through to wait at front of lights and then wobbled away, general lack of awareness coupled with zero speed - but on one of the most beautiful bikes known to man. I can only hope it was a Chinese/Indonesian knock-off
Probably nicked
What's the difference between a "chopper" and a "nodder"?
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
Strangely quiet and not the normal chaos on CS7 through Balham to Colliers Wood last night. Thought I'd skipped an hour later without realising, but left work as normal at 6pm.
No traffic at all down Tooting High Street.
Maybe it has ended until spring??0 -
I witnessed the best nodder ever this evening in a good way, this fella in his builders hiviz doing a long wheelie on a Boris bike
Surely the ability to pull a wheelie in a boris bike is above the ability of the common nodder!!!! That is Mad Skillz!0 -

Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -

The amount of cyclists with ££££ kit that push to front at lights then bimble off and make you overtake (or what i call "Looks like Wiggins, rides like Cribbins") has shot up lately. I think the fairweathers have dropped off and these doofers feel they must justify their expenditure by being extra abundant. Don't know, but i wish they wouldn't.0

Now: my earlier question: difference betwixt nodder and chopper?
I think it's been est defined previously as a Nodder just doesn't know any better and a chopper just doesn't care, it's been argued then 'Allez Man' may be a subset of either with Clapham Man being a subset of Allez man but far more leaning towards Chopper than Nodder. If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. Now: my earlier question: difference betwixt nodder and chopper?
I take it as - nodder is a mildly pejorative but not-too-nasty, maybe even vaguely affectionate, term for plodding non-sportif cyclists; whereas chopper is a derogatory term for a newb / inexperienced cyclist who rides faster and more aggressively than he is capable of or than is acceptable given the conditions - also likely to contravene several basic highway code rules in a short period of time?0 -

I would think that Allez Man falls firmly in the Nodder subset - normally complete with actually nodding action. For me the chopper subset tends to be fakengers riding SS and jumping red lights - often seen (or not seen as the case may be) in black skinny jeans and no lights. You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quin.0 -

If you want to see a chopper, head to Regent's Park on a Saturday morning.Ben

This, surely?
Nodder = just trying to get to work / wherever they're going. Not fast, but not trying to be either. Shoaling tendencies at RLs. may get spooked by close and/or fast passes.
Chopper = Delusional fool. Believes he/she is faster and more talented than he/she actually is (because they're riding an Allez which is a "racer" it means I must be quick right!?). Does not shoulder check. Prone to erratic changes in line. Will filter down the inside of a tipper truck which is turning left / down the pavement into oncoming pedestrian traffic if it leads to getting past someone....anyone.
RLJer = embarrasment. Can come from any group/tribe. Burns with (misplaced) righteous indignation if challenged on their parentage when witnessed in action. Potty mouth.CS7

It's definitely begun. Nose-to-tail down Lea Bridge Road cycle path this morning. Plenty of SCR action as well with some other roadies, although a pillock in a flat-bed pulling out right in front of us from the left and blocking the whole road stopped play, with a squeal of brakes and some loss of rubber to the rear tyre.0

Lots of cyclists this morning, combination of the fair-weatherists coming out of hibernation, and the bomb dodgers getting back on their rusty bikes0

haha yes indeed. I was fair blinded by the mass of hi-viz at times this a.m.0 -
Still too early I think, noted a few bomb dodgers could have joined in this morning but given those on PT are pretty determined to be packed in like cattle while noshing off the RMT, a foreign threat isn't going to change their determination for a sh1t journey to work.If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. Ahhh, bomb dodgers. That'll be the reason for the sheer quantity of bike b@stards wobbling about, sitting in the blind spot of large vehicles, shoaling, running red lights and generally being @rseholes. Though I'm not sure what is more likely to kill them, a bomb on PT, or being an @rsehole on a busy road.0
