I am very interested in this subject. Please can you provide me a link to information showing the improvement of morality? I refer to comparisons in civilised nations and peoples - barbaric romans, vikings or chinese dont count! If you refer to education improvements - I would agree that it has increased...it would be hard to argue the opposite, access and availability to it at least. The uptake and use of it is open to debate.
It depends on what you define as morality. For example, when I was growing up not only was racism and homophobia largely the norm, but it was primetime entertainment on the TV. And that was a marked improvement on my parents' generation. Neither have been eradicated, of course, but it's a different world.

As for crime rates - they have dropped a great deal in the internet age (after a steady climb - mostly due to the population increase): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... allen.html

Richard Dawkins did a fantastic TV show last year on channel 4 called Sex death and the meaning of life.

One part of the show looked at how the world was getting better and it is

    It was very uplifting.

Our lives are just so tied in with the small social area's we move in and then we are bombarded with ads, news, and a lot of dumbed down TV that at times you forget there is a big old world out there to see.

Edit - mind you, it's getting a bit worrying when I find myself agreeing with Rayjay.

Cor blimey, Kittel stropped and chucked his bike, hardly a symptom of the decline of civilisation as we know it. He's apologised, said he loves his bike but has an intense relationship with it. I know what you're saying Frenchie and i think the way he lay down after showed he felt a bit of a twat for doing it.

It could be the butterfly effect.
If Kittel never beat up his bike then some hunter out there may have got eaten by a giant wolf beast

Kittel's actions may have saved a life

    It's all good.

This isn't the right forum, but if you think the financial services industry is an ethical one then you're in a minority of one.

Kittel has apologised on Twitter now, I never get the urge to throw my bike as I can't afford to buy it again and it's not what I use for work but I could easily throw my work computer out of a window or put a fist through the monitor sometimes, we all lose it at times...

Maybe you have had bad experiences. If one person out of 100 is a serial killer it doesnt incriminate the rest. You can find unscrupulous people in all industries.

There's always been trash. You just have easier access to it. But equally you have far easier access to all the wonderful things too.
And every generation thinks society is getting less moral and more stupid, but long term trends across decades show exactly the opposite.

I agree about it is an issue of access. Unfortunately this World gravitates to the simple and the easy option. There are countless examples of this in small aspects of life. This has a detrimental effect on society. I could wax lyrical on a debate on these matters. Will stop though as this is not the thread to do it on ; )

What Rich said - it's just a sign you're becoming an old married man. I always like this quote
Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.

    Back at the race

"The peloton split because of it," Cavendish added. "Some gentlemen in the peloton gave me a hand to move up but I got to the front with 500 metres to go, before the sprint even started, and I was already on the limit."

    Sounds like a reasonable explanation

Can you provide an ethical industry? It's like coming up with the selfless good deed - tricky.

Finance has its faults, but banker bashing, along with many prejudices, has been around for many years and played a large part in the rise of antisemetism - Godwin's Law.

    Poem called,,,,,,,,,CARBON DEATH

Our young athlete could not compete , so he smashes his bike into the concrete .
The bike it bounces on the floor and Kittel can not win anymore.
It upset some who post on this sight, to see such a terrible waste of a high end bike
Me I just don't really care, I found it entertaining watching his bike fly through the air.

    thanks

How about we just let Kittel f'uck up his bike if that's what he wants to do and get on the with the show...?

Ethics, morals, responsibility, role models for kids and what have you.. Let's leave this cheesy s'hit to the American basketball players. They are as interesting and inspiring as a cup of coffee, without coffee.

Can't seem to see the results for the other jerseys there, did Dowsett pick up plenty of the intermediate sprints? I only saw it from the last one he went for and I can't find a list of who has what jersey anywhere

Dowsett's lying in 2nd place behind Pelucchi in the Points comp - 10 points to Pelucchi's 12
