Yeah and a 12-30 on the back- The climb isn't that bad, it was just the conditions that made it so hard. With Los Lagos de Covadonga the L'Angliru and many other HC climbs around here I never ride with less that a 30. I'll be back to climb La Farrapona in a couple of weeks but on a sunny, windless day0 -
Did Sa Colabra today 8)
E2.75 for the can of coke lol :roll:0 -

It's cheaper (slightly) at the top, where the road forks (before the mini col to the top of Sa Calobra). Their almond nougat is the dogs too, I ate a whole block each time I was there!0 -

How did you find stopping there though? I mean, in respect of the fact it's not quite at the top. Or did you climb tot eh summit and descend back to the cafe?
Last time I climbed SC, one of my mates was one hairpin ahead, but the plum pulled into that cafe for a drink. Imagine his horror as I 'sped' past hollering 'you're not at the top yet' and proceeded to get there quicker than him.
He was gutted. How I laughed.0 -
You talking about the cafe next to the viaduct? I remember stopping there going from Port de Pollenca to Soller, and it was a welcome sight after all that climbing. I'd thought at that point that I was almost done, I was wrong!0

PS I've never been to Sa Colabra, is it worth a visit for the wife and 3 year old daughter? Thinking along the lines of going out there in the car, doing the climb on the bike and then driving back to Cala D'or?0

It can vary at this time of year. I was there this time last year and the first week we were there it was baking hot through the day - although a little chilly in the mornings and evenings. The second week was more like being in Britain, windy and a bit chilly.0 -
We took our 3yr old and 1yr old there last March, and took it in turns to ride up the Calobra while the other did the childminding, definitely worth doing it, beach at the bottom is nice!
That little restaurant by the viaduct is pretty good too, and not too expensive, sure I only paid around €2 for a can of San Mig.
We are off to Mallorca again this weekend, think we will get 3 full days of riding in, and 3 family days.http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0 -
I dream of these experiences....0

I have just booked two weeks next month. Plan to do Calobra for the first time. :oops:0 -
Definitely on my list of things to do this time. It's one of the places in Mallorca that I've never been to, despite visiting Mallorca on three previous occasions. So it will be worth a visit even if I don't take a bike.0

I’m planning on driving from Cala D’or to Sa Calobra, leaving the missus and our young kids on the beach and then cycling up and down the climb.
Was thinking I’d just hire a car for the day, but to get one that’s big enough to fit 2 x adults, 2 x kids plus a bike looks like it’ll cost a couple of hundred quid just for 24 hrs. Has anyone who’s combined bike and kids got any suggestions ? e.g. do any of the car hire firms also hire bike racks ?0 -

www.goldcar.es I've just hired a Vito for 4 days for less than £200. 4 blokes, 4 bikes. Job done. You'll get something suitable for 50 Euros i'd imagine.0 -
My in-laws rented a big car from Gold Car and they were very happy with it. We rented from Sixt who were also excellent but expensive.0

Looks like a bit of rain tomorrow so might save 'the big one' (Major) for Sunday0

Hiper Rent a Car and Record & Go are worth a look (tho usually cheaper picking up from airport)http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0

Cheers for the car hire suggestions.
As I only need one for a day I want to pick up / drop off in Cala D'or which limits my options, but I've found a 5 seat Berlingo van for £40. Looks like I can fit a bike in the back and there's plenty of room for the kids too.0 -
Just back today (sat). Great weather around the 23-24 mark, not been at this time of year since 2002. It really inspires you seeing thousands of other cyclists out on the roads. bike hire was from Max Huerzeler 1st class as usual and to top it off the finish stop at Cafe 1919 at Pollensa roundabout was bliss.
PS. Did anyone go to the Bike Show in playa de muro Alcudia ?? Some cracking bikes on show from Canyon,Cervelo etc. you could go to town with a credit card .0 -
It was on this day last year it was my first day in Mallorca!0

I'm flying back to the UK in the morning. Put in just shy of 300 miles in 6 days & 22,000ft of climbing 8)0
