So we have pushed the button , a week in Puerto Pollensa staying at Club Pollentia..
Thats the holiday booked now for the bike .
Looked on pollensa cycling pro hire site and like the look of the KUOTA KORSA 2013, does anyone kow how these size up ? I am 5ft 10 1/2 and are using a medium Giant TCX 2 for commuting and fits ok and a lapierre xelius size 55 , 570 top tube ,a litle long and racey.
So if there are any budding bike fitters out there , a little advise would be very much appreciated .

Max Heusler has a bike shop on site at Club Pollenta, much more convenient for pickup and return and their bikes are more than good enough. Any problems with the bike and it's sorted in minutes.
    Many thanks for the info.
Do you have a link or contact for him.
    Any info welcome.

My mate luigi is the mechanic there for maz hurzeler. Best hire station on the island and i work for a different hire shop round the corner. Go to hurzeler by far more organised than anywhere else.

My only issue is the bikes on offer , I am ready to hire a cevello r3 with Bikehead , I wanted to treat myself to a good bike , the bike choice at maz hurzeler seems a bit limited according to the website.
Do you know if he hires any other bikes than the ones on the the website?/
Would love to hear your comments/recommendations on the bikes they do hire. it would be far easier to hire from them.
many thanks for taking the time to reply.

The new carbon bikes at max hurzeler centurions i think they are, are nice. I took the mechanics one for a spin and it was nice. If you go for a new one they are great. Not well advertised but on the same hotel as max hurzeler is balear reisen. Google them, they hire canyons all are current models the oldest being 18 months old. If you wanted a canyon you can try one for size. Im buying the mrs a used one from them next week

Heading out on the 20th june for 6 days, cannot wait.

Do you have any recommendations of bike hire companies in central Palma or am I going to have to get a bike delivered?

    Thanks

I don't know anywhere in central Palma, although I'm sure there will be some. There are two in Can Pastilla, which is a short bus ride from Palma, right by the airport. They are Embat Ciclos and Berganti Bikes, both on the sea front. I can personally recommend Embat, who I have used several times over the last few years. They currently offer aluminium bikes for 14 euros a day and full carbon for 17 euros - slightly cheaper if you take them for a full week.

Make sure you have plenty of suncream and that you have 2 x 750ml bottles full on your bike!

Jeez, anyone fancy forming a peloton :?
  • I went last Feb and it was the best weeks cycling of my (short) road cycling life. The guys I went with have booked again for March but I may not be able to go that week. Gutted.

Still struggling to hire a bike. Plenty around but due to being in central palma, not a huge range of hire shops. Looking at Bikehead and get the bike delivered but wondered if anyone has used public transport to get to a shop?

I always rent from Berganti in Can Pastilla. Ten euro taxi ride from the town centre, and a lovely flat seaside run back on the seafront. Takes half an hour. Ignore the Strava KOM times along there. All done by lunatics in the early hours.

I pay about 15 euros a day for a full carbon ultegra bike. Great service, friendly people, not fussy if you have problems, free spares, and will help with bike delivery if you ask.

Stop off at Es Mollet on the way back. My favourite restaurant. The fish and Sangria are awesome. Only for recovery days of course.

Just back after 10 days, family holiday with a few hours cycling per day. It was great.

Stayed in Cala D'or so not a prime cycling location, but still some decent climbs within range and I went there last year so am building a good knowledge of the routes in the region. Climbed San Salvador a few times, also went up to Bonany monastery and the Puig de Randa.

I hired from Canyon Base again and got an Ultimate SLX with Campag EPS. Brilliant to ride such a nice bike under clear blue skies on perfect Majorcan roads.

The weather got progressively hotter during the holiday, the last ride I did was in 93 degrees and was hard graft.

I'm off for a week at the moment and tempted to book a last minute flight out there on my own for the first time to cycle.

The only thing putting me off is the temperature at the moment. This week the forecast is saying 30 Degrees C every day. Not too sure if that's bearable or not.

    Any thoughts?

A friend of mine on Strava called her ride yesterday " the scorcher" . 35 on her Garmin.

It's fine. Just do your riding before breakfast if you don't like the heat.

We did our last ride on Saturday, finished at 2.30 with the Garmins reading 41.3 degC

It is forecast to cool down a bit after this week though, there was quite a strong breeze on the beach today which kept things bearable.

We have now extended our business (see below) into Majorca by buying a flat in the Old Town of Palma. 2 beds, 2 baths, quite big, with private roof terrace. Just above the Born, and to the left of the Ramblas if you know it.

It will be fully set up for cycling (track pump, secure bike storage, route guides, etc), and my SL4 will live there permanently from now on!

Will be ready from this September on.
