I'm off to Santa Ponsa in September for a week and I'm definitely planning on doing 2 or 3 days of cycling.

Anybody familiar with the area and know if any good routes to the climbs mentioned in this thread are nearby? I hope there will be a cycle hire shop nearby, I'll have to get looking online for hire and some routes!

    Cheers!

You're in the South, so you have easy access to one of the best coastal cycle routes in Europe, if not the world.

Head up to Andratx (not the Port), and then follow signs to Estellencs. From there you just follow the road all the way up the coast North through Banyalbufar, etc. Absolutely spectacular.

You can either peel off early and come back via Puigpuinyent, or continue through Deia and down into Soller.

Be warned though, it's pretty hilly, and quite a long way there and back (if you're doing Soller).

Loads of hire places, most deliver, about 100-120E a week.

Oh and make sure you head into Palma, too good to miss.

We are there at the moment. Hired a car from Goldcar via Carcrawler. Big Citroen that takes two bikes easily in the back, upright. 11 euros a day!

Deia and Soller today. If I live I shall report back.

Booked to be there the first week in June although a knee ligament injury from a recent skiing trip has put it slightly in doubt, fingers crossed.
Torn ACL, strained MCL, small fracture and bone bruising, still cycling though and still going to Mallorca in June. The bikes we were renting are now not available so swapped to Supersix's with Di2. Got loads of routes loaded up in the Garmin and plenty of white kit!

Got back in the early hours. Absolutely loved every minute of it. Four days, five rides and a couple of targets ticked off with a sub 40 up Sa Calobra (which is EVERY bit as immense as you'd expect it to be) and a sub 60 up Soller.

Amazing roads, great coffee at Pro Cycle Hire and just a superb place for a cyclist to go. Legs are feeling it a bit but not as much as I'd thought, can't wait to get back over there now.

My gf got back on Sat and loved it. She did Sa Calobra in a fraction over the hour. It is as epic as you could imagine, from her description and the photos.

They had a private guide who was superb and great for encouragement on the toughest bits of their rides.

They stayed at Playa de Muro but she said Polencia and Alcudia were much more lively and nicer.

They stayed at Principes de Muro. The hotel was clean, good rooms, good food and good bike facilities. Muro beach is beautiful but they were pretty much the only Brits in hotels full of German people.

They rented Cube Agree Di2 bikes from Max Hurzeler in PdM. The bikes were good but the staff were without question the rudest people she has ever met. The were serving German people behind her and her English mates in the queue until there was no one else left to serve. Would never use them again because of their attitude.

Despite this she had an amazing week.

Me, I stayed home with my crutches to keep me company. Very jealous.

I found the staff at Rad International (also German) to be pretty much the same, tho Max Hurzeler were slightly better. BiMont cycles had good service.

I went to Majorca in April. We did the Stephen Roche Training Camps based in Son Caliu near Palmanova. They are a great company. There are cheaper ways of getting round Majorca but the rides were excellent and extremely well organised. The roads, cafe stops and scenery were all excellent. Loved it, loved it, loved it!!! We are planning on going back next year as well

This is a great choice if you've done Pollensa a few times.

Being at the other (southern) end of the island gives you a whole new perspective and new rides, and you have access to Palma, not to mention the jaw dropping ride up the SW coast.

Shurely not!! We were there last April and for the first week the weather was typical Mallorca, hot and dry but the second week was more like being in the UK. I'd only taken one sweater and no coat!

I know, I only packed 1 light jacket, the rest is t shirts and stuff. Needed arm warmers + gilet on 2 days, and even that was a bit limit on the descents. Highly unseasonal weather, but the sun just came out at Barca airport!

I got back at the weekend after two weeks there.

No gilet, no jacket. Just shorts and a thin jersey.

Got rained on once, but only for twenty minutes and to be honest it just cooled us down. After the shower it seemed even hotter because of the humidity increase.

Winding hairpins up to the Col de Soller. Cafe owner at the top told me there are 30,000 arrival a week into Palma that are related to cycling tourism. Amazingly it still seems a peaceful place.

    Very

It is hot in July but I went out early morning (on the road before 0800) and it's fine. Tried to have finished by midday though!

Tried hiring from Canyon Base in Cala d'Or but they were unhelpful when emailing them, and in the end didn't have availability for the dates I wanted.

So I'm going to hire from the place in Port de Pollenca that I did last time, drive there, ride back to Cala d'Or :D

So planning to do Port de Pollenca -> Cala d'Or , across country, should take about 3 hours?
Cala d'Or -> Sanctuary de San Salvador, shouldn't take too long that one?
Cala d'Or -> Soller -> Port de Pollenca, the big one, over the Soller pass over the tunnel, then the HC climb to the Montbanner Tunnel and a leisurely descent to Port de Pollenca.

Does mean I'm leaving Sa Colabra in unconquered again!

Am here buying a 2 bedroom flat in Palma old town for our business (See below!) and it will be cycle friendly!! Watch this space!

So we have pushed the button , a week in Puerto Pollensa staying at Club Pollentia..
Thats the holiday booked now for the bike .
Looked on pollensa cycling pro hire site and like the look of the KUOTA KORSA 2013, does anyone kow how these size up ? I am 5ft 10 1/2 and are using a medium Giant TCX 2 for commuting and fits ok and a lapierre xelius size 55 , 570 top tube ,a litle long and racey.
So if there are any budding bike fitters out there , a little advise would be very much appreciated .
    regards

Max Heusler has a bike shop on site at Club Pollenta, much more convenient for pickup and return and their bikes are more than good enough. Any problems with the bike and it's sorted in minutes.

I can recommend bikehead.se they have Supersix evo with di2 and Cervelo R3 - really helpful and friendly service in Alaro, that what i'm doing again.
