  • That the same 'Knees' role we had last May?

What, Knees was there in the Giro giving him is wheel in the last 3km of a summit finish? Think you're confusing him with someone else..Uran, maybe?

Anyway, shall we play nice and not block up the thread with back and forth? Boring for everyone else, non?
  • Don't be huffy ... it's all part of the same race ... and it was interesting given BW's self-stated goals where his team mates were compared to him ... a lot can change in a couple of months ...
  • Wiggins not doing a very good job supporting then ... 1st out the back ... Imagine if the teams that shepherded him to glory were in that form ...
Think Richie will be reporting back to Chris on that. Amazing turn from Thomas though.
  • Great work Mollema, not sure who tipped him previously.

Me on Twitter (for podium), so I claim that one

Think post #2 on this thread predicted the 1,2 :P
  • Thought Matt Stephens and Rob Hatch are a good pairing. I know some don't like Hatch's overly precise pronunciations but he does get them right.

Those 2 were the only minus in today's racing ... They tend to labour the wrong points (throwing away gel wrappers went on and on and on) whilst no time was spent describing the finale ...
  • Racers littering is a bug bear of mine. I say name and same them.

Well they have the Green Jersey at the TdF for the tidiest rider ...

Do the organisers fine them? Cant remember

    Feck

    :)
  • The UCI have got behind this a bit and commissaires have issued fines. More needs to be done as many riders think it's normal and acceptable.
  • INRNG did a post about the littering problem some time back:

I still love seeing G and Little Pete string out a peloton on a climb.

Very nicely timed finish by Valverde. Very badly timed finish by Mollema again.

    And Rebellin. Well done.

Kennaugh wasn't particularly good at pacing. Would have been interesting seeing him continue the pace he set at the base of the climb!
  • Stage 2 tomorrow will settle it:

But Valverde has this. Good battle for the podium though.

So is the view that Wiggins couldn't do his bit or... just couldn't be bothered?
“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

  • I reckon it's a bit of the latter unfortunately. He looks in great shape. Perhaps it's not 'on plan' to put in a big effort at this stage.

Me too. Reminds me of the good old postal days.
  • Yawn. Try and not derail another thread, it's tiresome.

    Indeed
  • Extra half hour of live coverage tomorrow, although there doesn't seem to be much
happening in the 80kms between climbs.

I wonder if we'll get to see a Rebellin, Horner showdown at some point during the season.
    Should be awesome. :P

Disappointed with Wiggins today, even if he isn't going for a win he could at least have put a decent turn in like lil' Pete or Thomas did. Strikes me as quite a selfish rider, he just couldn't be bothered and gave up at the lower slopes.

Movistar on the front most of the day looking like Sky and then unleashing Valverde for that brutal climb, Valverde looking very much on form at the moment and the rest of his team very strong.

Ok. My final word of the subject (will try, honest). Wiggins job was earlier in the race, not on the final climb. Sky are using him here just as they did in the Mallorca races last week. Sorry to repeat but though he might look good, he's still way off his best climbing weight - at least 6kgs heavier. He's working to a particular build up and he can't do the job that Pete and G did at this point.

I know the above having bent Rod Ellingworth's ear in Mallorca last week.

Will (try to) shut up now.

    You sure?
  • You could clearly see that Wiggins is on the chunky side atm.
Don't know why folks expect him to be doing much in mid-February.

Having said that, I know Sky stuck to the tried and tested, but was that climb
    best suited to the train?
With 6 guys all close in the GC, might not it have been better to sit on what was left of
Movistar and send riders up the road on the final two climbs?
I know that's fairly radical for Sky, but Valverde might have been isolated marking
    more than just Richie Porte.
    Surprise value, if nothing else.

Ah thanks, interesting to know as it just comes across as he's being a bit of a d£$k to be fair. There have been a few times, especially last season where he looked like he just couldn't be bothered!
