Looks as thought the current high temps are not only making riders break out their triathlon gear. Seems bush fires could affect the schedule of the event.

A performance of true integrity. But it's torturing credulity that they could have improved so much with just a new conductor and some remedial horn sessions

Although seems that is less likely now

Had a look on the 'Live feed' Just a load of people knocking about on Quad bikes and drift trikes!

Edit: Meant to put this in the San Luis thread...

Was Visconti the one down just out of sight to the right of shot? Everyone else seemed to get up and continue without problems (or was Visconti in a different crash?).

    Contador is the Greatest
  • Feel sorry for Chris Sutton, still not been hurt enough from falls and been trained enough to handle falls to stop himself from putting his arms out as he went down if you watch the vid very carefully.

Without going into the whole "Sky" thread thing that is running, for me there is a real gain to be gained (pardon the pun here) from learning from another sport. Horse race jockeys are taught how to fall, as part of their profession they are going to hit the deck from a greater height at a (on average) greater speed than pro race cyclists. Jockeys never put arms out, they relax and pull their limbs in. If Chris had done that his wrist would have had a much greater chance of not being broken - this also reduces the chances of a collar bone being broken. If you think how much time and money has been put into Chris stopping him having a broken bone must be important.
  • As for Visconti - that is unlucky - he is front of the actual crash - I think it was his back wheel that was touched - he knew he was going into the barriers but was expecting it to be a glancing blow - should not have had a broken leg from that fall. Very unlucky to do it on the barrier or more probable (imo) someone fell onto his leg

Hansen in KOM tomorrow, splitting up on the climb with just over 10k to go, catch made at foot of climb.

    The Saxo kit looks hideous,

two Europecar riders attacked with 5.6km to go.

Commentators are rubbish, referring to people just as race numbers.

Apparently Schleck thinks he could "do something"

Gerrans wins from Greipel, he will be annoyed about that. he went very early on a slight incline and Gerrans stayed on wheel and nicked it at the line, win bonus and one from the stage.

Crash with 1k to go, didn't seem bad but one Belkin rider looked sore.

Classic no-neck Gerro. (See MSR 2012 for more evidence - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b3JIUeqrVA)

What a disaster if Gerrans can beat Greipel. I'm guessing Greipel went half gas as Kittel wasnt there - wont make that mistake again.

What happened to Kittel? Looks like he took it easy.

    Here is Greipel saying wtf:

    Decent by Gerrans.

I think I read somewhere that Kittel was targeting stage 4 rather than going for this one.

Gerrans showing 2012 form. High hopes that his feud with FF will light a fire under the early season skirmishing.

There was a reasonable hill 10km from the finish. Kittel finished in the last group about 8 minutes behind. Ewan was about 4 minutes back too.
