Might watch a bit of pub footy on Saturday as the SPL is on then.

Impressed with Cole Palmer, hope he makes the Euro’s squad.

He'll definitely make it onto quite a few Man U fans' dart boards 🙂

Woeful defending from both teams. 8mins extra time!

Why aren't the fans keen on Pochettino?
seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Is it cos the team is shyte?
Reference point, they are below the shyte manyoo in the league.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
They were worse than shyte before Pochettino got the job. They were 11th 😀

Snigger. Chel$$ea can't even beat bottom of the table Sheffield U. Spend more, spend more, it's the only way forward.

Chelsea are shyte,

I'm grassing you two up to Uncle Humza, that's hate speech directed towards a minority group 🙂 Bloody Sweaties... 😀

Aren't you a Gooner?
In which case you will clearly recognise shyte because that what Arsenal have been for the last decade or more bar this season!

But if you really want shyte, we just need to find out who 'Loon supports (I assume he supports a footy team, otherwise what's he doing on this thread, apart from being a sweaty troll boy?) 😉

In other news. Joe Kinnear passed away. The old crazy gang manager in my season ticket days.

I'm just busy dodging taxes. Like certain others on here.

Good last season and improving all the time. Who do you support?
seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
You mean choked last season, perhaps learning lessons this?!
But they were shyte for years before that whilst Chelsea were filling their trophy cabinet.
That said, not many would dispute that Chelsea have been shyte for 2 seasons.

Shouldn't take you too long if you earn sweet FA? 😉

In that same decade, we won the FA cup, in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020.
Between 1955 and 2005 (50 years or 5 decades) for the hard of sums) , Chelsea never won a top flight league. But they did win the second, divisions titles 😁, 'cos they were relegated.
Before 1997, only won 1 FA cup.
So what's a decade in the grand scheme of things?
Seems like they have gone back to pre Borinho tripe. Now they are joining the Manure has been supporters club. No Russian fluffer to prop them up. Hopefully for Chelsea yet another manager swap, endless vapidity and impotence.

If push came to shove, I grew up supporting Chelsea, but don't get upset or overly happy whatever their results are. That said, Chelsea beating Man td deep into Fergie time on Thursday brought out a wry smile.
The sport is utterly corrupt, players show zero respect, and constantly try to cheat their way through matches. The fans are generally bigots, and the coverage of football has sucked money and support away from other sports. There really isn't much 'beauty' in the game at the top level.
Give me a rugby match pretty much everytime over a football one.

I have to admit, and younger generation football fans will call me a dinosaur, but I genuinely don't think that the standard of individuals players is as good across top flight English and European clubs as it was 20 years ago. If I look at current Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal squads in particular, would a single player from any of these make it into their league winning sides over the last two decades?
Man City are a brilliant team but I can't see any players beyond Haaland, De Bruyne and Rhodri making the best European sides of 20 years ago i.e. Madrid, Juventus, Man U, Bayern etc.
I know it is perhaps a classic case of rose tinted specs on my part, but I just don't think players have improved, or perhaps I just grew up with a generation of all time great players; Keane, Scholes, Giggs, Viera, Henry, Bergkamp, Del Piero, Ronaldo, Zidane, Nedved, Matthias, Effenberg, Mendieta, Maldini, Shevchenko, to name several!

I look at how staggeringly poorly set piece plays are executed, let alone the number of players who lean back and baloon the ball over the bar when shoots - really poor basic skills, yet some of their close quarter skills are staggering.
Compare that with the execution of a cross field kick pass (whilst on the move) in rugby by the likes of Finn Russell, Fin Smith, Marcus Smith, Jonny Sexton etc... or the accuracy of a box kick by the likes of Ben Spencer or Dupont.

Come back when you've got a bit of European pedigree. Unless you try to count the European Cup Winners Cup 🤣

I think this is part of the problem, the focus seems to have switched to athleticism and tactical nous. Individual technique seems to have become less prominent, as though the 'athlete' now trumps the technician. Even Guardiola has changed his focus from the technical brilliance of his Barcelona squad to much bigger and more powerful squad at City, although this perhaps reflects what is required for the power and pace of the PL.

Watching La Liga games and PL games live (actually there) and the difference in work rate and industry is marked. Do you recall Gennaro Gattuso and the brilliant performances in the latter stages of the CL when AC Milan reached the final? His work rate was universally commended and commented on. He was taken off with 15 minutes to go in the home Semi final leg having run over 11 km's. He said that he obtained that work rate from being at Rangers FC.
I actually like watching the English Championship games as whilst they may be lower in technical ability, the pace is furious for 90 mins. Very entertaining 90 mins. More twists than a Curly Wurly.
Bourinho said: La Liga is the most technical, Serie A the most tactical and the PL the most intense. Guardiola has obviously recognised that and has built his teams around the high pace of the PL and technically, they must be good enough as City compete year on year in the CL.
seanoconn - gruagach craic!2 -
Yeah, I remember Gattuso, someone like Jens Jeremies at Bayern was a very similar type of player from that era.
Completely agree, the PL is the most intense league. In a similar vein to Mourinho, Michel Selgado, the ex Madrid player, always said in Spain possession was king, in Italy you played counterattack and in England it was non stop attack box to box. City are a top side, but Guardiola plays a very different tactical style and uses players who have a particular skillset that fit his system, not necessarily all around technically brilliant players who could fit into any team.

It's that balance: The concept of 'Team' or technical requisite.
You see it in cycling; team leaders need cohesion and work rate from the team, not necessarily talent.
