    - The Alsace stages really add an extra mountain range
Extra you say without 3/4 days in the Alpine Mountain Range.
Not a fair swap IMO but maybe the French want Tommy to win.

Can i take it that Frenchie is in love with what Contador is wearing but utterly revolted by what Froome is wearing even though they wearing the same thing?

Froome's been in Europe too long. Cav just has a standard outfit for this now

Must say that Kittel must be melting knickers o'er all Paris today

isnt that Christophe Riblon on far right end though, who looks even more fed up in this photo :)

its like hes thinking, "the invite just said smart casual and Kittel turns up looking like Dolph Lundgren in a snappy suit, this jacket doesnt even fit !!!"

Froome just looks like a tour guide from the zoo.

He should have turned up in a safari suit and a pith helmet, waving a blunderbus shouting "I've come to shoot your elephants!"

Lots of riders weren't there - Quintana, Rodriguez, Sagan, Nibali, Greipel etc. There's no particular reason why Wiggins would be there.

Especially since he didn't even take part in 2013 and it's far from certain he will take part in 2014.

  • No map on the stage 3 page, but zooming into the overall route shows that Cambridge-Londres stage looks to go through Braintree & Chelmsford...

Will Dowsett & Cav be able to go past Blue Egg without stopping?

What cat climb is Holme Moss - have they got that level of detail yet?
[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]
  • Hmmmm, what are those cobble sections on stage 5 going to do to certain teams rider selections I wonder?

Be interesting to see how each team try and deal with the stage 5 pavé. Nibali might ride Flanders? :?

  • Will we see some interesting attempts for teams to try and get their strong cobble men in a break to nullify any time gaps in the GC battle? This is going to be a cracking stage.

Velowire.com says its one of the 25 climbs of the TdF 2014 categorised as 2nd, 1st or hors category. So, yes, 2nd cat.

With hindsight there were always going to be cobbles. 100 yrs since outbreak of WW1.

      Monaco does that to you.

Can't wait. Only one way to ride cobbles - hard and fast. I reckon at least one GC contender could come a cropper.

Vous connaissez donc bien les dangers de ces trois étapes dans le Nord. Quels seront-ils pour la première entre Le Touquet et Lille ?

    • Can anyone tell me please where I can get the full routes of each stage? The le Tour website is hardly worth the 'paper' it's written on giving only useless information on the start/finish towns (which we can look up ourselves) and profiles of climbs (which we can look up ourselves). Or am I right in remembering that they only publish that information much closer to the time?

      Looks good! :D

I thought they always resurfaced the particularly bad roads just before the TDF each year

Yes, it's normally published around May, in detail for every stage. The Yorkshire stages are already published in detail: http://letour.yorkshire.com/. You can also work out the route details of the mountain stages using their elevation profiles, which are already published
    • I know its not route-related per se...

...but apparently Purito said on Catalonian telly this morning that he's targeting the Giro. So looks like no cobbles for Purito.
    • What with the resurrection of Frenchie's 'Pretty Camargue Horse'TM on another thread, I'm getting so excited for this! I know it's months away and we I have the Classics to get excited about first as well as the Giro and of course who could forget the Tour of Qatar but I am super excited already.

I'm trying to decide whether to head down to stage 5 and be there for the cobbled carnage in person or whether or not it just makes more sense to watch it at home on the telly...?

Nah, don't go, it will be rubbish...
    • For all you Boonen fans (myself included) you will be pleased to know he will be racing the TdF with a particular goal of taking the cobbled stage. Good news for Uran, but hopefully he gets let off the leash.

Isn't that in April? Isn't this about the cobbled stages of the TdF?
