Aggresive Hardtail Thread!

Bit of an update to my spares bike.

Now fully tubeless and with different grips (ESI) since this pic. Also using clipless (Time) for the first time in ages on an MTB. The biggest difference is what probably can't really be seen in the photo, though. Works Components had a seconds sale where I picked up a -2 degree, 1.5 headset. That gives the bike a 62.5 degree headangle now, unsagged with a 140mm fork. It felt bizarre at first so I wound in the fork to about 120mm and it really started to come to life. 140mm does have its place though. It's a proper monster-truck, just eating up stuff that I usually had to put in a lot of concentration to get through. I think I might even use it for an Enduro I've got coming up next month.0 -
Now we have 23 pages of aggressive HT's wouldn't it be great if someone could sort out a race so we can see which one is quickest!

My most recent upgrades are switching to 1x10 using my x9 cranks so I could get a nice spiderless absolute black oval chainring. I got some Mattoc's to replace my Fox 32's, they're 650b version so I can always move them on in future if necessary. I also had to get a new front wheel/tyre/disc my other hardtail got stolen when it was borrowing the wheel, I upgraded to a Minion dhf tyre. I've also just stuck my Superstar carbon railed saddle on, it's super light and actually surprisingly comfy.YT Wicked 160 ltd

23 Pages filled with great bikes...
Mine falls short in terms of specs, but in future once I build more confidence & stamina I might do a few upgrades to the bike or even better get another one
It would be nice to have another thread for Standard (entry level - mid level) Hardtail Bikes !!0 -

Has anyone done this yet? Think it's a great idea for those who can't make it into this thread. I can't see one and if it hasn't been done I'll happily start it later.Daddy, Husband, Designer, Biker, Gamer, Geek

This is my Malvern Star arma custom hardtail.
It now has a zee 1x10 setup
It is built from various parts from other bikes with the worse parts eventually being swapped out for better ones.
The frame has been powder coated black. It has 130mm of travel with a 2012 Rockshox revelation RLT Ti. The wheels are Shimano Deore XT m776. It has quite a slack and low slung frame which makes it awesome on the downhills, but it still climbs really well.

Nice, the colour especially. I regret selling my old Pike. It was the perfect fork for a Sovereign.
I just built up my Sovereign again, after having stripped some parts to put on a new FS at the beginning of the summer. Not really any major changes; some cheap Superstar wheels and Shimano brakes and a DT Swiss fork from Ebay. It's going to be kept more as a straight 'play'-bike this time. Before, I think I'd pushed it a little too far into doing a bit of everything that it lost some of its edge in the end.

Leaning on the bins makes it more aggressive. If it could spit on the floor it would.0 -

Yup, glow in the dark. And yes, proper heavy but will last into next generation. 10 year old son already claimed it.0 -
Very similar build to my old summer season. Mine did a season of downhill racing, cased some very big jumps, crashed very hard several times and fell off the roof of a mates car at 50mph and it's still goingTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Loving it so far, except that I've discovered how busy I am until Jan so haven't had as much time as I'd like to ride the damn thing!
