Now that brings to mind another question (going wildly off-topic)... anyone know whether Lance still holds his Alpe corners (19 & 21 I believe)?
    http://www.afp.com/en/node/616640/

I'll try an remember to look as I grovel past on Saturday.
Ta. They are numbered in reverse, so 21 and 19 are in fact corner 1 and 3. Hopefully you won't be too cooked by then!! (Mind you the first km or so is one of the steepest sections.)

Completely OT, but will have done Glandon, Telegrpah and Galibier by then as well! Come to think of it it might be dark by the time I get there.

I Marmotted last year. Enjoy. It was my most fun day on a bike.

Descending the Alpe at 6 in the morning with thousands of others I discovered the smell of burning rubber for the first time whilst cycling.

Stay off the breaks in the corners, stay safe and have fun.

Ohhh as a warm up climb the Solour on Friday. The cafe at the summit does amazing hot chocolate.

Did you see that guy get taken out!

Wasn't watching, but rewound when CK went on about it. Fantastic elbow to the chops. We need more of this.

Absolutely pole-axed, quite right as well.

Bugger, missed it. Need clip. Want clip. :(

Can't give you a clip, but it was at 74.6k to go. Guy in blue/white cycle top running along the side, guy in red t shirt sticks out stragetically placed elbow. Down he goes....:lol:

I can't bring myself to give up Phil and Paul...there's too much history between us. Also ITV 4 has an advert for Fenton's accident solicitors. It reminds me (a) of Froome (b) early Tour crashes

    ATC's Left-Field Guide to Marseille

Bay of Marseille by Paul Cezanne

Marseille is 2013's European Capital of Culture an honour it shares with Košice in Slovakia.

Marseille's history is built around its port and its historic links with North Africa and the Mediterranean that go back centuries. Of course today it is now well known as one of the cities of France with a large population of North African origin. This is reflected in the cities religious make-up where after Catholicism, Islam is the second largest religion while Marseille is the third largest Jewish community in Europe - mostly Sephardi Jews of North Africa origin. There is also a large Armenian population in Marseille, making Marseille a highly multi-cultural city reflected in its role as the 'capital' of French hip-hop, the band IAM (not to be confused with the cycling team) originate from Marseille as does of course the French national anthem (which I had typed before Carlton Kirby preempted me on Eurosport).

Some well known gastronomical delights are:

    Bouillabaisse - fish soup.
    Bourride - a fish dish.
Navette de Marseille - a boat shaped orange flavoured biscuit - hooray.
    Pastis - needs no explanation.
Pieds paquets - a dish prepared from pig's trotters, sheep or pork tripe and lard, sounds lekker :?:
Fougasse - a flat Provençal bread, similar to the Italian focaccia and sometimes filled with olives, cheese or anchovies.
Panisse - a pastry made from chickpea flour.
    Correlation is not causation.

Thanks for this. Have done the last few Etapes, but this is first M. Looking forward to massive lunch on Sunday atop the Alpe.

Lol! Carlton's just admitted that he's forgotten his phone charger today, so is having to ration his checking of twitter, and he's also forgotten his spectacles. Looking forwards to some hilarious misidentification of riders later.

Basically today we're getting commentary from Sean Kelly and Mr. Magoo

He didn't look fat to me, but perhaps I've had too many pasties and my perception is flawed!
