Tasty little climb but nothing too difficult for anyone surely?

Descent may be tricky if wet?

Great - a new stage and a new day.

Got to feel for Ryder - shame for any defending champ to have his campaign go this way. Hope he's is fighting form for the Tour.

Would love to see Betancur take it just so he has a reason to celebrate this time...

Not sure if someone has found this before me, but it seems that Brad has always had some trouble crashing in the wet....

The main climb is part of a 50km uphill drag. Will be interesting to see whether or not Ryder can hang on all the way.

How difficult would it have been to simply pave straight down? Surely not that steep?

It's probably been like that since it was tarmac-ed. My mate remembers his granddad having to reverse up Sutton Bank before WWII because reverse was lower than first.

I only heard of this recently, but the story of the Vajont dam disaster is extraordinary. This year is the 50th anniversary.

60km covered, no break, average speed well over 50km/h.

    Predictions for today...

    A Colombian will win
Nibali and Evans will do well and finish together
    Wiggins will lose time
Jonathan Vaughters will contunie to tweet rather less often than usual.
Everybody will moan about Declan Quigley

All together but the peloton had a quick start today pretty much downhill (give or take) to the first climb & averaging over 50mph.

When I first read no break away, I thought that maybe the top teams were looking for an easier day after yesterday but looks like its been fast from the flag

Perhaps they want to get it over and done with quicker and then have a longer rest

A long steady non-technical downhill to begin the stage.

A breakaway is quite likely to succeed today, so there will be a lot of competition to get into it - hence the high speeds.

More like teams putting pressure on those who might/could/have already shown weakness. The climb today is not as harsh as yesterday's. However the final k's are going to be hard & quite possibly just as fast to shell out as many as people as possible.

Edit: Sorry having a mare today (as was the chap who tweeted that speed, not me) have just been checking and the average today was 50KMS not MPH for the first section.

Can see a twitter user being bumped off my follow list for that & me for falling for it
