I was so bored of last years TDF that this year I'm switching to the Giro.

What channel are you guys gonna watch it on? I wish the big Evans Cycles in Wimbledon put up a screen so cyclists could watch it - that and a coffee shop.... Anyway, here's the thread:

I'll be on Eurosport as per usual.

Predictons is that Cav will stage one if he stays up right and will loose the jersey to Brad on stage two.

Other than that its going to be great and much better than the le bore.

    SharktoTwiggo!

Quite excited I must admit. Both Wiggins and Nibali are looking in good nick. Evans' form is on the up so may surprise a few. Bonus seconds may be key

You're right having a British (ish) 1-2 and British -Manx multi stage winner was well boring.

    Predictions - Nibali won't win.
Thoughts - Wiggo has a very good chance but Rodriguez will be a threat.

I think Wiggins may start to hold back to save himself for the Tour, especially when he realises how tough the competition will be. If he wins this'll cement Wiggins as a great rider.

A J-Rod win would be truly amazing!! With Basso as runner-up!

if his stated aim is a Giro - Tour double, then holding back and not winning the giro would not be the best plan?!?!

Bad move. This Giro is going to be a snooze fest, though the bonus seconds may stave off rigor mortis for a while.

J Rod isn't racing, he's focusing on the tour. Which he won't win.

Contador, the greatest rider of this generation, has admitted himself that it is not possible to win both Giro and Tour given the quality of the competition (although that has diminished given the lack of performance enhancing drugs).

Wiggins may win one of them - I hope its the Giro - so that we get to see the more exciting Froome do his thing at the Tour. Also a double Brit win would be amazing.

There's a Pre Race Chat thread in Pro Race with some good stuff in it

    viewtopic.php?f=40002&t=12918291

and the thread title needs sorted before Greg sees it.

Fair enough. It's a noble tradition you're following.

    It will annoy Greg though.

The Giro will be good as long as Nibbles does not feck up the 55km TT along with the specialist climbers. If he is his usual crap self and Wiggo his usual great self then we will be looking at over 3mins time lost for Nibbles and even more for some of the other guys. If Wiggo takes pink with more than 3 mins in the bag then the Sky boys will be able to control the race I fear - as long as Wiggo does not completely implode on one of the later mountain stages.

I'll make one prediction - the Giro will show us that Wiggo is actually a much better climber than he's ever been given credit for - he'll crack Nibs on at least 2 stages.

I'd love Cav to get the pink jersey after stage 1 also. Very special year this as the yellow jersey is going to be worn by a sprinter after stage 1 as well.

This is a joke right? I think that's well and truly cemented already.

If Wiggo's 'explosive' climbing training works then I think he'll win, however, other teams have started to crack Sky's tactics, so Brad may well end up isolated which will play into Nibbles' hands.

As for the Tour, I rather fancy Nairo Quintana to win. On his day he's a handy enough TT'er and boy can he climb.

Wiggins may well win. But he has a bit of competition. Hesjedal to do the double could be a good punt. Nibali will be rubbish.

It's a Grand Tour, so it will be about attritional survival. First week: cagey snoozefest. Cav will be fairly useless, and throw his toys out of the pram.

Depends how high you set the bar for 'great' and how you factor in his track career.

Not sure 1 GT and a smattering of 1 week races qualifies a rider as a 'great' of the sport.

    Its getting exciting.

Good shout for Quintana for the tour as well.

I can see Serbrad punishing Nibali in the mountains - i think we will see more than just a diesel type ride from him. Robert Gesink in the above picture has no chance i don't know why they still keep going on about him as a gc contender.

Ryder has a chance, Cadel has no chance.

As a great "cyclist" though there is no doubt. Certainly the greatest British cyclist of all time.

Of course he is a great cyclist.

Multiple world/olympic champion and a road palmares that 95% of cyclists can only dream of.

The best british cyclist of all time (other than possibly BB).

Again it depends on how high set the bar for 'greatness'.

By the 'better than 95%' logic, Michael Carrick is a great footballer, but he ain't no Lionel Messi.

I'm not entirely convinced he is the best British Cyclist of all time either.......Cavendish has a strong case too.

Sorry, but Cav doesn't have diddly squat on wiggo, he's a great sprinter, but that's it.... Wiggo's proven he's the best TT rider in the world, one of the most successful track cyclists in the world and he's also proven he can mix it with the best climbers in the world able to stick with them the gruelling mountain stages.

By the end of next week Cavendish will have 100 pro wins, give or take half of which are from Grand Tours. He's won a monument (MSR), been World Champion on the road, won 4 or 5 semi classics, has 3 (?) World Championship medals on the track and won the Green Jersey in the Tour. Oh a stage race too.

With respect that amounts to a lot more than diddly squat.
