A word of warning if you going to lay on food for fad diets......Durianrider is vegan....and rides carbon...and no matter what distance you ride, he'll leave you for dead with his POWER METER

@Vtec - can we possibly add to this thread ideas for the carbon talk? That way you can get an idea of what sort of things people might be interested in.

    Heat transfer/dispersal
    Different types of layup
Strength comparisons vs steel, aluminium, titanium etc

Yes, ideally that would be the case as it wouldn't be valuable for anyone to waste thier time in something that is of little interest. I could also get some carbon for you guys to have a play with ? Maybe make something for your bike ?

If you could obtain a carbon chain catcher for a band on front mech that would be perfect :-)

    Crash/impact damage
    Repair jobs
    Bonding, painting & lacquering

These would actually be the main categories I would think as these could be shown on the day. They are also part of everyday testing so would be easy to set up. I have asked if we can make something on the day so hopefully that can happen and I'm just waiting on availability to be able to get a couple of potential dates.

I'm interested to hear the dates - but I suspect I won't make it - distance from Edinburgh is probably too far. But thanks VTech really is good of you!

Guessed as it is your day job you would know what you were thinking about, good to know that my ideas were not to far out there then!

  • vtech, as apparently you work in F1, im wondering if you can recommend a european grand prix to go to (out of spa and hungary probably) which is best.

also can you hold this talk on 1st june as previously requested?!

I'm not sure on dates yet as I have the guy doing the talk to confirm with but although I like both events, spa has something about it that can't be explained. I would do spa if given the choice.

  • many thanks, im talking in terms of over the gp weekend where we will probably be camping next to the course which is apparently adjacent at spa? and gets very lively of an evening?? can you verify this or are your expereinces strictly limited to the paddock.

    Camping is fantastic at GP weekend, have a read here;
    http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic- ... lonia.html

Be careful of valuables and have fun. Ive never camped myself and hotels can be extortionate around GP weekend so camping offers great opportunities, beer will be costly, around 8e per beer but they tend to be litres.

I've not been but spent the weekend with some friends who are avid F1 supporters and they say Spa is the best - least expensive, most accessible, great atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

They camp in a motorhome in the campsite a stones throw from the circuit. (Sorry can't remember the name) then you get to walk round the circuit on one of the days. You get to watch 2-3 days of racing (qualifying + racing for F1 plus the other competitions (F2/3/Porsches?).

All in all a great weekend by all accounts. Must do it myself!

And you can drive the 'real' circuit too - down to Stavelot and back...... 8)

Vtech this may have been covered somewhere in the topic, but there is pages and pages of people having back and fourths that have nothing to do with your generous offer.

I realize you havent set a date yet, but where is this gathering likely to be located? Sounds very interesting? As an avid F1 fan as well as a Cyclists the day sounds pretty awesome if I am being honest!

Ideally it would be at a test facility, milton keynes would be the best solution but in practice im not sure I can manage that, I will try but it may be in or around stratford upon avon.

I would certainly be interested if welcome :)

I will keep an eye on this thread and once you have everything in place let you know for certain.

    Thanks again..

Also at a guess, I assume as you have mentioned a facility in Milton Keynes, would i be correct in assuming you work for "Red Bull"?

p.s If i see that triangular bag on your bike though, I am going to have to hide it from you ;)

If I can make it/am invited and VTech's Felt is 'bagged up', I am bringing mine too :D
Why I bought it and what I was planning to do with/put in it are long since forgotten, but I have one
