How many people on here do you actually think ride 120 miles in one session?

More that you might imagine as a 200K is a standard Audax distance (actually 124.27 miles to be exact).

That said the Audax nutters also do 300/400/600km as standard distances and for the seriously unhinged 1200km. (I hasten to add that I am no longer a nutter).

    Regards

    Alan

I accept these events exist, my point was how many people who spend time on here actually do that sort of distance.

There are probably thousands of people in the UK who can and do, I just suspect that not many of them will waste their time on the internet.

So is the date set for our swarey Vtec?

I think your natural wit, flair and debonair presence has un-invited itself from any social gathering in the near future. Maybe you could try a solo RAAM and let us all know how you get on ?

I see what this is all about. The reason I posted said events was that they all take place in July/August, so it was to illustrate that if I couldn't make a certain date, I had a very good reason. It was simply a statement of fact, and not meant to be boastful. They haven't yet been completed, so until said time there is no result to be proud of.

I am hoping to complete the RAAM Solo in the next few years, but I'm not even remotely close to that sort of fitness yet.

You either possess no sense of humour, don't understand irony or just a total nimrod. keep posting, I need to see more.

BTW, you were rude to Vtech and his invite which was a truly altruistic thing to do and you verbally crapped all over it. Shame on you, if I knew your Mum I'd be telling on you.

Oh you! Had I put either of these ( :P  ) after my initial throw-away remark this wouldn't even be an issue. ;)

Anyway, I will be there as long as the date is viable. :D

    Just read through this thread.
    My tuppence worth.
VTech - A very generous offer indeed and if I was closer, I would be there for sure, whatever the ride distance. Thanks.
GRILL - You are a rude arrogant pr1ck and I sincerely hope VTech withdraws the offer to you. I fu cking would.

Today was a beautiful day in the sun, wasn't it? ;-)

A generous 14c, not a cloud in sight, and no need for bib tights or leg warmers. Must say, would've fancied stopping off for a barby mid way throughout my ride. DMC's avatar isn't helping - it's making me hungry! :-D

I think we can all move on from this and accept it as a misunderstanding for the sake of simply getting on. (I am partial to a decent Chardonnay though)

I will try and arrange suitable dates as I think it would be worthwhile but I'm working out of town this week so it will have to be next week that I get some up.
Also, it won't be on an F1 weekend so any dates free for people that coincide with F1 won't be on the agenda.
I appreciate that people have families so if the wife is happy to organise, I may also open the day to wife/kids who can laze in the sun whilst we go for a ride in the morning (of course all open to the ride too).

Very kind offer meet with abuse. At times I can't work this forum out.
Don't bother arranging it save the bother your efforts I feel would be wasted.

Such a shame my presence would impede others from attending. If I had that much venom for anybody I would show just out of curiosity.

Assuming my invitation is not rescinded, then I will indeed come bearing gifts, be rude not to. :) <- is that the appropriate smiley? Still getting the hang of this.

Nor can I. It seems to vary enormously depending which sub-forum you are in. Road Beginners and Road General can be extremely ill-mannered whereas Road Workshop seems to be completely free of this sort of behaviour.

Let's face it, roadies don't have a great reputation compared to other cyclists and sometimes I can see why :( .

You can't see it but the burger has guacamole and jalapenos in it as well as salad, swiss cheese, pickle and special sauce. I would serve it with french fried potato's as well. :D

Whilst I don't think that Vtech initially approached this forum in the best way, I don't see anything here that warrants your initial responses Grill. Bottom line is that this is a generous offer and you've acted like a bit of a d!ck.

  • is this legit? or just some excellent wumming. for an apparently intelligent person it seems a tad naive to invite complete strangers from an internet forum round your house....

meet in a neutral location for a ride for sure, and get to know people, then maybe around your house after youve met them a few times, but complete strangers around your house? surely you know what kind of weirdos and nut jobs you get on the internet, let alone the sort of weirdos you can come across in cycling!

i will use the anology of dogging, it seems fun at the time, but not when you car is being followed home by a load of lone men in their cars, and you and the OH are sh*tting yourselves, that these creeps could find out where you live! lesson learned... never do it anywhere within 30 miles of where you live as there are too many weirdos out there, or just dont do it and move on from any OH who is wlling to do it as they aint keepers!

likewise the other way round, for all people keen to go round a strangers house (especially one who hasnt exactly endeared himself on the forum with some slghtly odd postings/arguments with 'regulars' ) for all you know its a trap for those so keen to go, vtech may be looking forward to locking you up in some kind of sex dungeon perchance...!

My wife has lots of hot friends, who are only too happy to spend the day times in the pool in skimpy bikinis.

Also, it wouldn't actually be at the main house but in a very nice location close to home which of course, for the sake of wife/kids/safety would remain private.

Perhaps an anecdote about an inconsiderate tractor driver who attempted to kill me by passing me full pelt in the lanes will add credence to my tale. That or some sort of grumblings about the lack of decent cake at the last cafe.
