Any interest in ride followed by Carbon Tech Talk ?

@ugo, I was gauging interest as I would be getting someone to take a valuable day off to come to me and give a talk so didnt want to do that if it were not needed. I reckon ten people would probably come although I would have to be half sure of that and if so will arrange it. There is no crap about the fact that I have tried to offer a sound day out even if it is beneath people but the fact is that I could not do 120 miles so would be pointless offering such a distance.
I will be able to get a date and will see where this takes us but the offer is genuine and was meant in total good faith.

The weird thing is, I seriously have a lot of respect for the fact you can m pick out a 300mile ride in a day but haven't you just done exactly what you and a few others have blamed me for doing (although I haven't actually done it in reality) by bragging in what you can do/have capability of ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being proud of achievements but I chose not to defame people who achieve certain things I or others aspire too. I can't help the fact I have a half decent lifestyle just like you have great capacity to cycle huge distances but lets keep this on an open playing field and be fair about things.

Where am I bragging? I'm simply try to find a way to make this worth my while as I'm in no way vested in the latest and greatest in carbon. If anything I'm accommodating you as you can now keep the ride distance the same as your original proposal with the added bonus of my attendance. So what's the issue?

I've checked my prelimary calendar and can do either the first 2 weekends in July or the weekends of the 10th or 17th of August.

I would be available for the July dates but not the 17th August one.

If I was closer I would have come even with no ride out, just for the barbie & talk.

A nice offer from the OP, even offering to pay for it all. Unfortunately, there will always be tossers who miss no opportunity to be, well, just that- tossers!

TBH I am not sure how to take you Vtech - but I think you have posted in good faith, I am happy to come on virtually any day in the next month - I have no problems with the length of ride whether 5 miles or 50 miles.

Nice offer. Won't be able to make it. But it's a good idea.

I'd expect to be able to come, and I'd like to.

And if you want to travel over to Brackley we have a loose association of riders of very varied experience and ability who ride together as and when. You might find it helpful to go out with a small group. (Not a club, no membership, no rules, no set time or place...)

  • It's a nice offer, but I'm not sure I would invite a load of people off the interweb round my house (I assume that's where your going to have your BBQ and tech talk). Why not check out the local cycling clubs (I think you said you were going to do some rides with them anyway). Get in a few rides with them, get to know them a bit and give the same offer to one of them. I'm sure you'll get a much bigger crowd as all the people will be local.

For heaven's sake leave the fella alone, it's a perfectly valid topic. Or come up with your own ride and post-ride entertainment, then you can dictate the distance ;)

I'm all for pulling people up where necessary, but no crimes have been committed on this occasion.
I completely agree. It is an interesting offer and I would definitely be interested if it weren't likely to be such a long way from Yorkshire.

I know VTech has wound a few people up (not me) but that's no reason to jump down his throat every time he posts especially as he has always been polite AFAIK (although I admit that I didn't read all of that thread, it got too puerile) - this is a cycling forum not YouTube.

How far is it from Cardiff to Stratford? You could get a nice early start and no excuses.

    Good offer BTW.

    About 110 miles.

This is what I propose: I will ride to Startford for a noon arrival, go on this 40-60k ride, listen to some dude talk about the best way to layup carbon nuts, eat some food (I assume my dietary requirements will be catered to), and ride back.

This is on the basis that the date doesn't conflict with other events (24hr, LEL, WCA TT events, etc.).

you're one arrogant arsehole ... if it was my event you wouldn't be welcome.

I think I am about 30 miles away, so sounds ideal for me if the date works out. Cheers VTech.

As long as you don't hold a grudge about my opinions on that Decathlon frame bag and tool kit :D

Is it an 'Assos' friendly ride?

Grill with the best intentions. Who are you? and how would you turning up make such a difference to the event?

V-Tech it's a great offer and I hope some of the guys take you up on your hospitality.

I believe Vtech works in an F1 team - so at a guess it's someone from the team or connected in some way.

You mistake bluntness for arrogance as I'm simply more succinct than most. My motivations are spelled out quite clearly and your interpretation of my writing is hardly my responsibility.

@snoops- who I am and what I offer is irrelevant. I was simply defusing an unnecessarily volatile situation with a gesture of good faith.

So have you chosen a date?

I made no mistake - you're not just blunt - you are both rude and arrogant. Quite why anyone would want you to turn up is beyond me.

Perhaps you can site specifics of said arrogance, if it's not too much trouble of course.

Reading through this thread I concur with what the rest of the posters on here have realised, that you are an arrogant **********. This is not my opinion just my observation that when a number of random strangers converge on one topic and there is only one antagonistic denominator (you, to be blunt), then the majority always seem to be correct.

Please stop being a pedantic prick or just be quiet, read back what you type and see how it comes across next time, eh ?

I'm trying to keep this on topic by asking the OP if he has chosen dates. I even listed the dates I could attend in order to get the ball rolling. As I've said, I'm not responsible for others comprehension of what is nothing more than forthright engagement. I suppose I could cater to the masses with the occasional emoticon...

Quite funny really, came to the forum having not been here for a while and its just like the last visit, Grill being a complete DICK. What an arsehole you are. Is it because you have noone else to converse with that you feel obliged to come on here and behave the way in which you do? You're a knob, an out and out knob and just the kind of knob who everyone avoids when riding. Jeeeez.

I have been nothing but candid, albeit with a certain wry undertone. It's amazing how people get so vested in these sorts of things that emotion in a post is palpable. Pragmatism is a thing... (these don't seem to be working for me)

More that you might imagine as a 200K is a standard Audax distance (actually 124.27 miles to be exact).

That said the Audax nutters also do 300/400/600km as standard distances and for the seriously unhinged 1000/1200km. (I hasten to add that I am no longer a nutter).

I think your natural wit, flair and debonair presence has un-invited itself from any social gathering in the near future. Maybe you could try a solo RAAM and let us all know how you get on ?
