That's hardly fair to Nibbles, you can't imagine Tyler Farrar doing anything ever...

That's probably because he couldn't see where he was going in those transition glasses...
  • there's a video interview with Farrar from the same source as the ones with Stannard and Older Sagan the Obscure.

the thing about T Farrar is there's just no incentive to....yawn...post it....zzz

Is there systematic sledging in the peloton? I can imagine David Millar being crippled by a timely "You're about as Scottish as a baguette". And I'm sure there's the potential to send certain Latin riders into the red via culturally incendiary comments about their mothers.

Surely there's scope for the Aussies to at least win at this?

Moving on from Arm-gate, anyone fancy a couple of pro interviews from today?

First up, Stannard (hope he doesnt hear that Frenchie called him fat)

Second, Peter Sagan's brother Juraj (more curiosity value than anything)

You know the season has officially started when someone calls the World Champion fat.

It happens every year. (White + hoops isn't a slimming look)

    Does look fat :P

Just saw the crit highlights; how blooming strange is it seeing the team formerly known as Rabobank in that kit? That's going to take some getting used to.

And they choose now to upgrade Sky Go. Great stuff.
  • Got up to watch the last 30k of a stream that almost drove me insane with the buffering.

Anyhoos, the Andre Greipel Tour Down Under show continued unabated, with an easy win riding everyone else off his wheel at the finish.

EBH got boxed in *sighs* (postioning, Eddy, how many times...)

Kittel truly cannot get over a bridge - went right to the back on the climb a few kms from the finish, never to be seen again

    Lotto got everything right again

OGE nowhere to be seen near the front of the peloton in the last 20kms and were still MIA at the end - not even a top 10 (and that climb should have suited Goss to a T)

    Top 10:

    Greipel
    Demare
    Renshaw
    Ponzi
    Von Hoff
Ferrari (didnt take anyone out, which is nice)
    Pietropolli (no, me neither)
    EBH
    Rojas
    Dempster

Having been looking forward to the season getting going, can I be the first person to complain about boring, shit small and sprinter friendly races.

    That's record time!

tomorrow's stage is a little more interesting and defo not one for Greipel and co. A tough climb called the Corkscrew should sort them out. It could have Pip's name on it (hopefully not No-Neck Gerrans tho)

Edit: the Corkscrew: 3.7km long, hairpin bends and gradient hitting 10%
  • Good attempt by Demare - he said he was finding it hard on the final 'bump' hill?/climb - haven't seen profile - 'but a sprint I can always manage'. Good work by the team (fdj) and a good team all round I reckon - good spirit

I've ridden the Corkscrew a few times, it is a horrible wee killer that in late afternoon is always stiflingly hot. The early slopes seem to go on for ever (in Adelaide terms) until the climb starts just below the hairpins.
The gradients on the inside of the corners are nasty. However since it will only take 9 or so minutes for the peleton to climb it here's not where tomorrow's stage will be won.

The descent down Monticute Rd has just been resurfaced. This time last year I had a strava top 10 for this descent. Not now, but my Adelaide training ride pals are all top 3. Anyway, it is a super-super fast, but technical descent. The bottom half has lots of tree cover and contrasting light going from blazing sun to dark shadows. A brave descender who knows the road will either power away from the front group or if they have lost time on the climb chase them back down. It will make for an exciting final 15 minutes.

Tomorrow sounds like a day for Pip, but I think more likely a day for EBH or even local boy Jack Bobridge.
  • Brilliant! On the road knowledge!

Bobridge is going through a troubled period at the moment. Only 18th in the Nats, and got dropped on that climb near the end of today's stage. Unless he rises like Lazarus, not sure about him tomorrow...?

As part of photographing bikes at TDU for our next issue are tech guys measured a few bars…

Henderson is on 36cm (he said he saw the GB track guys in London using them and decided to give it a go)
    Hansen is on 38cm

Yep, Sky must be gutted not to have won a the first stage of this coveted race especially after such a poor season last year and having brought a top flight bunch sprint specialist with them. Oh, hang on.........

EBH can sprint with the best of them. Sutton is meant to be a sprinter. Eisel is supposedly a king lead out man.
