Thanks mate, really appreciate that, at the start I just hoped to build a nicely balanced looking bike, I think it has achieved that.
I may get some odd looks on the trails with carbon gear on a kraken but you know what, it's a bloody great frame and handles the XC stuff like a beast.
Cheers0 -

I got a good deal
Good job the Mrs hasn't a clue, I could tell her it's cardboard based and cost £1.50 from home bargains.
Oh and get this, the shox cost me £160 in MINT condition, a badly timed ebay jobby, love it when people list stuff to end at 1pm on a Tuesday haha.0 -
My little dirty bike. I'll be cleaning it tomorrow!
Carrera Subway 20 -
will update later!0

Thought I should update the bike as its changing lowly. Front mud guard is gone, a muckynutz XL is in its place. Rear guards off as it just dropped it off the workstand. Rotors are now hope 180mm floaters. Theres a neoprene chain guard on the otherside as well. Rear tyres been swapped for a Maxxis Advantage front will changed to a Panaracer XC Pro. Im slowly getting rid of the yellow bits the pedals will get painted black an ill swap the grips at some point, bar new forks later in the year not sure if ill change anything else

Hi Guys,
Just a quick question...What do you think the best colour would be for parts like, seat clamp, QR skewers, grips, bolts ect. on the Carrera Kraken 2013?
Sorry to go a bit off subject, but would just like others opinions!
Great looking bikes BTW!!!0 -
Whatever colour the best component for the job is!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Finally finished putting my new shiny bits on the old girl And saw this thread so thought id post a few pics.
New Roxhshox recon golds with poploc
Superstar switch evo hubs with stans flows
Sram cassette
Sram pc971 chain
Feels like a hole new bike. Seems a lot more responsive on the turns and bumps are non existent with the recon golds.
I cant seem to get the gears working perfect though. Not sure if my derailler might be getting too long in the tooth or maybe the shifter.
Also my hope mini caliper is sitting about 5mm off the rotor, Got the KCMC adapter on it but ive had to put washers between the post mounts and the adapter as it fouls the fork otherwise.
Its working ok but could do with investing in a 10mm bigger rotor in the future.
All in all im well happy with the purchases :smashin:0 -
Looking good, lighter wheels make a massive difference to how a bike feels!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Copying me? Upgrading my wheels to stans crests, and the fork to a Recon Gold are the best things I've done, totally changed the ride!0

I didn't think about that! Was just looking for some bling!!
Thanks0 -
Thanks beginner & greer. Was very close to opting for the crests but just wanted the security of the extra strength of the flows as these wheels have got to last me a good while. If the arches were on offer I would have gone for them probably.
The golds are superb but I am coming from rockshox pilots which have been knackered for ages. I'm 144lb and have them pumped to 70psi.
Next things I want are some new handle bars, derailleur slx or xt, deore brakes. I've spent way too much recently though so just going t enjoy what I have and keep a look out for some decent deals on the above. Meanwhile I think I'm going to take the decals off the frame and just leave the carrera & zelos stickers on.0 -

Same reason i went for Flows, thought the extra strength was worth it over the weight penalty0 -
Hi i am new to mountain biking and this is my 1st MTB.I decided to buy one just to get fitter as middle age is catching me up and 2 young sons now faster at football than me.Bought this just before xmas and been enjoying myself round the trails of Rother valley and beyond.I am on a tight budget and buying things of ebay and in the sales so i know the upgrades are not the best but have been a big improvement on the stock items it came with.So the next buy will be a new or 2nd hand chainset so any advice would be more than welcome.0
-
What's the spec?! Looks very good, cables look a bit too long though!
Chainset wise, I'd recommend Shimano Deore/SLX/XT depending on budget.0 -
Very nice & welcome to the Carerra corner!
Enjoy your biking and don't get too hung up on the tech! I've also tended to replace things as I've worn them out or broken them and with a mix of eBay bargains and/or offers from bike shops when I spot them. All part of the fun for me!
Ride safe. Corners0 -
Welcome, that looks nice....Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

That is a great looking Carrera. I'd go with a Deore HT2 set. Deore brakes are a fine upgrade too.
But, the most important thing is riding.Family, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there

Does anyone here own the current Carrera Subway? I'm tempted to get one as they are down to £279 at the minute.
It'll be used for commuting to work which is a 14 mile round trip and riding in the bad weather. I'll also take it with me when I visit my girlfriend and use it on canal paths and some very light off road work.
If anyone can share their experiences I'd really appreciate it2019 Ribble CGR SL

Same frame as the hardtails - and many other components shared with them, tough as old boots, hold value well - Hybrid not an MTB. For a bit more money though the Voodoo Marasa is a much better bike and be much better on your proposed usage.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Thanks for all your replies the spec for the bike is standard except
Race face ride xc bars
Race face xc 70mm stem
Mountain king tires
Rock shox xc28 forks
Giant root mph brakes
DMRv8 pedals
Scape active 8 seat
And some red bling.Paul you suggested changing the brakes to be honest i bought these from JE JAMES for £60.00 for the pair and i think they are fine but never tried any others ,so for the mo will just look at improving chainset and gears as that is what i think is the weakest link. But as i suggested any advice is more than welcome.0 -

First post! Hello!
Picked up a Carrera Centos `13 a couple of months ago and am pleased as punch with it. It hasnt got the highest specced groupset or the brakes to bring Jupiter to a halt but its enough for what im using it for at the minute (commuting & getting fit mainly).
Bars and stem are going to be replaced soon though along with a nicer saddle.0 -

That's smart, colour is bling too. I know your commuting, but do we need pedal reflectorsFamily, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there
